strange how I have all these numbers memorized and don't even have to look at his spreadsheet..

As noted in my spreadsheet, I may have forgotten to give him his Ondansetron last night. I know I fed him at 1:00am (+7) or so, but don't remember if I gave him any pills. So many pills. I'm not used to it. I am terrible with taking my own pills.
Question: How do I make sure I am getting the pills to go down the right hole? I just push them past his throat opening and give him food afterwards.

This morning, he ate his 1st Breffis, and then went to hide in the basement (I think he still thinks he's going to work), so I went to get him up and opened a can of FF Trout Feast that I grabbed from down there. He ate his 2nd Breffis at +0.5.
And at +1, I was hoping he was still hungry, so I could give him his Ondansetron, and he was :-D

He has peed and pooped, and eaten a bunch of food, which is better than yesterday, and is starting to settle into his little cat bed, now.

Dyana, I also give ondansetron to my kitty, Cleo. I usually put it in an empty gel cap along with all the other meds I have to give her. After getting the pill down her throat, I use a small syringe with water in it and squirt a couple of small squirts into the side of her mouth. I think getting water down J.D.'s throat may be better than just feeding after. Cleo has gotten quite used to the whole procedure, just like our insulin kitties get used to the testing.

I avoided pills as much as possible with Latte. When we did use them, I chased it with her daily lactulose (poor thing :sad: ), followed by baby food off a spoon, if she wanted it. With Tippie, I give her boiled chicken in broth and let her take both the fluids and meat on her own (because she will! :mrgreen: ).

When I got overwhelmed with medications/times/amounts, I made a spreadsheet. Hopefully the attachment will work.
I printed multiple spreadsheets and had one for each day. I would hand write the time I wanted/needed to give each medication, food, etc (some days varied due to my schedule). I checked each one off as I gave it, and wrote any notes that I felt were important. At the bottom I had space to write information about her mood, demeanor, LB habits, etc. You will notice I also put stretching and a few minutes of meditation on the check list. That was for me! :lol: It was suggested by the social worker at the University Vet clinic that taking care of my needs were just as important as Latte's. :mrgreen:

Having this list helped a bit with feeling so overwhelmed and the fear of not giving all her meds and/or doubling up on them. It was also a good way to keep a diary and notice patterns among her issues not FD related.

Hi guys .. the only time we've had to do pills was with our civvie and she loved the pill pockets .. I am sure you have tried those? It sounds like J.D. is having a pretty good morning so far, hope it continues .. have a great day guys!

Carolyn, thank you for the link on pilling a cat. I will read that tonight.
Another thing, I that concerns me is the pill splitter. Right now, there is a 1/4 of some unknown pill in there. So, I know I can't leave the split pills in there. If there was only one kind of pill, that would be fine.
For now, I have been leaving the split pills on the tops of the pill bottles they came in :roll:

I can't remember but will JD eat pill pockets? The duck and pea are FD friendly and what I use for Grace.

Carolyn gave some great info. One thing extra I do is I give my kitties a little water from a syringe before I pill them so their throat is not dry and the pill doesn't get stuck there. Then I give the pill followed by at least 3 mls of water and then a small bit of food.

Is it possible to cut the pills all to the required size and then just keep them in their pill bottle?
 
J.D. started thinking pill pockets were evil when he bit into one or two with nasty stuff inside. I have hidden pills in steak and bits of shrimp, and I even tried cream cheese once, but I don't want him to associate those foods with something evil, too. Those are his treats. Everytime I have tried to syringe anything into him (mostly bupe) it has been a little struggle-city with me trying to avoid his claws, etc, and the bupe prbably usually goes down his throat instead of the cheek pockets where it is supposed to go.
So far, he has eaten his Methylcobalmin on his food, Ondansetron will be the next feeding, and then Pepcid for his middle of the night feeding :) <that's a gritted teeth sarcastic smile.

We just got back in the house from a nice walk outside, and all is well inside my house.

You can do the ondansetron and pepcid as injectibles. That's how we did it. Pretty cheap through Sam's club ($12 for pepcid and just under $20 for ondansetron, if I remember correctly). If you want to get really fancy, then you could go the compounding route (transdermal, treats, tiny tabs, etc). I thought the best place was wedgewood pharmacy. It gets pricey to compound, but sometimes its worth it! We had pred turned into treats. They were well received for about a year.

I used to have the clinic cut all the pills, or do it myself all at one time. If you are cutting just one at a time, could you put the pill back in the bottle? I would hate for it to get knocked off the top of the lid and have a curious kitty eat it. :o

That's a good idea about putting the pills back in the bottles. I could also get the B12 as injectable, then I could give him 8 shots a day, instead of 2 :o Hopefully, knock on wood, he won't need all this stuff, after a while. Thanks though.
