I took Merlin to the vet today to address his extreme weight loss. He did not like the visit at all. He has lost 1.5 lbs in the last month, but fortunately no signs of liver lipidosis in his blood tests.
He was prescribed an anti depressant (Mirtazaprine) and group therapy 3 times a week to address his depression and feelings of inferiority. Actually, I'm just kidding about the group therapy. I had to add that in since he was prescribed an antidepressant. The stuff actually works well in cats to greatly enhance appetite. If that doesn't work to get him eating right in the next 10 days, he will probably go under the knife to have an e-tube put in. Ick. But we have to do something. The vet is at a complete loss. She x-rayed and ultrasounded him today to look for abnormalities and tumors. He had great showpiece innards and nothing was found. Urine was tested again and was completely normal. No proteins, sugar, ketones, white cells, blood, or bugs. His BG was 116. He just had 100% pure clean DSH Ginger Tabby pee. We have no clue why his appetite is gone. After today's drama, he is now hiding in his cat tunnel daring me to try and get him out.

Hope the Mirtz helps Merlin’s appy. I know it has helped other kitties. I haven’t read all your posts, so you may have already been asked this, but have you tried meat baby food? If you try it, make sure it’s all meat, no onions. Onions are very bad for kitties. Some others have tried poached or boiled chicken.
Come on Merlin eat some food sweet boy!

Has anyone suggested CBD oil yet?
There are several members who were successful managing the no appy events with it. Some use as long term therapy.
Mirt worked well for my girl except that a tiny dose (which took effect about 45 min after administering) made her hungry for 12 - 14 hours and she was somewhat more vocal / active than usual.
If that doesn't work to get him eating right in the next 10 days, he will probably go under the knife to have an e-tube put in
E-tubes are very effective tool and much easier to manage at home than one would think it was.
We had it it fit for about 6 weeks or less.

I read about CBD, but I wanted to try the appetite enhancer drug first. The vet said each dose should be effective for about 48 hours. I give him 1/4 pill every other day. It seems to be working as his appetite improved about 2 hours after the first dose and he has eaten more tonight than he did all yesterday. His BG is 90 right now at +7, so it's not bad and he just ate a snack.
My vet wants to hold off on the e-tube as long as possible because it's so invasive. What we really want is to figure out what happened to his appetite. He has no clinical illness that we can find. My vet is soooo frustrated. Me to. ALL the lab work and x-rays, and ultrasound are 100% normal. I have an extremely healthy diabetic cat with BG under control that is starving to death from not eating. What is also so weird is that he is also not showing any clinical signs of his weight loss as far as all the chemistries etc. (blood, urine, ...). He just isn't eating. Right now he looks like some stray found under a concrete abutment in LA. He used to be a 14lb robust cat. He lives with 2 other cats and they are fine, so it doesn't seem like its anything environmental. Maybe it's just mental and I have a psycho cat now.
