This is getting so out of hand. She literally just peed in the bed...with me in it. Yesterday she made a diarrhea pile outside her box. I don't understand the problem...she's been getting her medicine twice a day like I'm supposed to. Her glucose is still sky high. I gave her a slight increase yesterday. I'm about ready to drop her off a vet and be like keep her until you fix her. :arghh: This is really wearing me down. I love my cat but I will say no more cats or any kind of pet again.
 
Some cats have a very strong reaction to Clavamox - it can cause inappetence, vomiting, diarrhea etc. Bandit could not tolerate it and I had to switch to Baytril. Is Baby getting a probiotic? Something like S. Boulardii could help. You want to give the probiotic 2 hours apart from the antibiotic. Also, do you know what dose of Clavamox she is on? What is the strength of the Clavamox that you have been given?

Did you get copies of her labwork from the vet? Protein in the urine is caused by CKD and not diabetes. However, a UTI can also give a false positive result of proteinuria.

I remembered that last night and have been worrying and wondering if I should push the issue more and get a full ultrasound done. That would tell, correct? Omg shes 403. Shes been getting liquid Clavamox 1.8 ml twice a day. Haven't gotten copies yet because not all of it in... her normal vet is out until Friday. I can call the office and ask them to send to me anyway.
 
Do you think as high as she is I should keep her dose the same right now? She's been all over in the past so not sure what's most appropriate, and i know the UTI can elevate things too.
She has a follow up appointment Monday with her regular vet but I'm thinking of seeing if theres any way the internal medicine specialists at the teaching hospital can squeeze her in. I dont want to overreact but this is just never ending and it's getting concerning.
 
I checked her litterboxes because I scoop twice a day at shot times, and its like she saved all her pee for that accident on the bed. Nothing in the boxes.

The spikes could be from the liquid antibiotics, so don't touch the dose. Like Bhooma said, the diarrhea is from the abx too.

I know it's very stressful for you to have to keep cleaning up after her, but it happens. I did that for 8 years with my late Luigi, he was always sick, and I felt like it never ended, but just stay the course, this is just temporary.

If she's eating, then it's probably the UTI causing her to pee on whatever she's comfortable peeing on, it will get better. Keep doing the Fortiflora.

Yes, calm down.
Clavamox is a widely used broad spectrum abx, and it will cause diarrhea in most cats.

Be glad she has an appetite, because some cats get nauseous from it, so her eating is good, you can chill and just monitor her.

Like I said, I know the cleaning up is stressful, it's frustrating, and it's a pain in the butt tbh, but it's normal.

Does the bottle say how many mg per ml?

Inappropriate peeing is usually a sign that the cat isn't feeling well. Some cats also do that when they have neuropathy and cannot get to the litter box. Like Deb said, it's a huge plus that she has an appetite because that's the first thing that antibiotics kill. Hang in there and love her. She can sense your stress and feed off it.

The other thing with a UTI, Rebecca...

There are 2 components in your case, bacteria and inflammation. Its possible that she has been dealing with bladder spasms well before you took her to the Vet, so, now that the abx are kicking in, her bladder is likely healing. The reduction of the inflammation in her bladder could have caused her to just "let go" of her pee this morning.

This happened multiple times with Luigi. He was never blocked, but if the bladder and urethra are inflamed, they may be only peeing small amounts at a time. The antibiotics probably are improving her urine stream.

One time I picked him up and put him on my lap, and he just peed all over me, I was drenched!! He didn't do it intentionally, it was probably a relief for him.

This is a possibility with Baby, give her a few days. :bighug:

Some liquid antibiotics contain sugar. I don’t know about clav. With dka in the past and an infection I would not go back down.

An ultrasound would most likely show any masses.
 
Sorry if this looks terrible; I'm on lunch and have very limited time. Can someone please look at her labs?

Maybe she ate good too because of the mirtazapine. I gave her one on the 24th. Perhaps I should give another one until this antibiotic is over... edited to add I just gave her one. Better be safe than sorry

Her labs look good. Blood and bacteria in the urine do seem to indicate a UTI though there's nothing in her bloodwork to indicate that. Would there be bacteria in the urine if it were FLUTD/IC? @Suzanne & Darcy @Bron and Sheba (GA)

Keep her on the Mirtazapine. You want her eating properly when she is on an antibiotic. With her history of DKA and possible infection/inflammation, you want to get as much food and water into her as possible.
 
If a direct draw by vet there should not be bacteria so very likely an infection. My vet would culture it to make sure on the right antibiotic.

Vet used ultrasound to get the pee, but I don't think she cultured anything.
 
Looking at the labwork, I guess what concerns me is where it says Ketones: trace (high) and that her triglycerides are high. A couple other things on there say either high or low too, but I'm not experienced reading this stuff.
 
Does that stuff taste gross by the way? First time I gave it to her she was smacking her tongue all around like it was disgusting lol. I opted for liquid because shes difficult to pill, even with a pill popper.
 
Oh no that little stinker!! I was picking up her plate of food off the floor so I could get a new plate going, and lo and behold a tiny white pill on the floor. She must've spat out the mirtazapine when I left. I'm assuming its from today because I usually pill her in the bathroom but was in a hurry so pulled her in the living room. I dont know now if I should give it again? I highly doubt it's from days ago...I think I would've seen it, cleaned it up. Just wanted to add that I syringed a bit of water in her mouth like i usually do after pilling, so this is frustrating.

Now that I have the time, I uploaded better quality photos of the test results to her spreadsheet into a tab called "March 2023 Labs."

It tastes like candy, and to me it smells like bananas. :joyful:

Hahaha! Like banana candy or something!

I'll be honest, my late Luigi took over a dozen different ABX in his 13 years on this planet, and I tasted all of them... I had to because I would syringe feed most of his meds, and needed to know if he was gonna gag or not.
