I am using SLGS Protocol.

Yesterday my vet suggested I raise Furball's dose to 1.5 units of Lantus from 1 unit based on the curve I did this past Saturday. I asked for advice on the board. After considering the advice, and seeing the reading I got this morning (278), I am going to keep her at 1 unit, at least for this morning.

I had to give Furball her insulin an hour late last night, so I am not sure where the reading I took this morning at the usual time before I would give her the shot needs to be on the spreadsheet. I put it at +11 for last night. I am going to give her the shot this morning 30 minutes late to try and balance that out. I can't give it any later because I have to leave for work. I'm not sure how it works when you get off on the shot time.

I am planning to try and get some more PM readings this weekend. Right now I can't go past +3 because I need to get sleep for work the next day. I know this will help me know what to do about dose adjustments in the future.

When you get off track with your shot times you can move back/forwards by 30 mins per day either by moving both shots by 15 mins or one shot by 30 mins.

Do take a test right before her shot even if you got one a half hour or so earlier as things can change quickly, I think that's what you're in the middle of? The one you took at her regular shot time then becomes @11.5 - you can add it to the box in the plus 11 column and then you just need to add the colour manually (see the toolbar at the top of the page) and the PS test goes in its usual place.

I was thinking 30 minutes late would get me back on track, but wasn't sure. Thanks for the information. Just to make sure I understand, this will make me able to give her the PM shot at her regular time. Is that correct?

Unfortunately, I had no choice but to feed her before I could give the insulin 30 minutes late this morning, so her pre-shot for this morning was after she ate. I had to rush to give her the shot late and get out the door for work. Hopefully I won't get off track any more (late shots or fur shots) and she'll get back to a normal routine. Then I can see what her numbers really are. If they are still high this evening, I may do what my vet suggested and up the dose to 1.5 units. I don't want to keep going against what my vet says, but I also want to do what is best for Furball. Thanks for all the advice.

Hi Carla,

if you gave the shot 30 minutes earlier this morning, you will need to wait until tomorrow morning to move the shot time back by another 30 minutes...you should only move by 30 minutes once a day. So, tonight, give the shot 12 hours from when you gave it this morning, tomorrow morning you can move it back the other 30 minutes. Does that make sense? (I haven't had my coffee yet, so I may be as clear as mud!)

Hi guys .. sounds like you've got your questions answered so I'll just say nice yellow this morning and hope you guys have a great day!

I am using SLGS protocol.

I have gotten off track with Furball's shot time. I am fighting getting a head cold from the temperature going up and down the last couple of days. I was not thinking clearly this morning and misunderstood the advice I got about moving the dose 30 minutes. I had to give the dose an hour late last night and thought I needed to move it late, not earlier, this morning. So Furball's morning dose was 30 minutes late.

How do I get back on track? Should I move her dose earlier the next couple of days to get back on track? I think I need to shoot 12 hours from the time I shot this morning. I am going to keep her dose at 1 unit while I get things back on track. Thanks for the help.

do you need to move back a total of an hour and a half? if so, you can safely move your shot time back a half hour a day for 3 days. some people move in 15 minute increments morning and evening, some people move it back 30 minutes each morning.

if this plan puts you in a bind, if she's high enough this evening to safely do it earlier than just 30 minutes early, that might be a possibility. you would need to be able to test her though, to make sure it didn't send her BG down. i know you've said you need to get your sleep at night. if you can't test extra, i'd stick to the 30 minutes once a day or 15 minutes at each shot until you're back where you want your shot time to be.

i did the same thing at daylight savings time earlier this month - i moved punkin's shot later instead of earlier! ohmygod_smile

they somehow cope with us! ;-)

edited to clarify the second sentence part in red.

I need to move it an hour and a half. I'll just do 30 minutes for the next three days. I really can't stay up late and test on work days, especially when I'm trying to not get sick. Thanks.
