I hve been able to do the sub q fluids without any problems so far, but Milo is still refusing to eat. I am getting ready to force feed him more baby food and then give him .5 units of insulin. I am concerned about him being so low and not eating. Last night he vomited some of his food back up. I am concerned he may do that again.

Also on the assisted feeding forum, we try and remind posters not to call it forced feeding. I know its semantics but think of it as Assist Feeding. It may make you more relaxed. Try warming the food a little too - cold food is hard on a tummy.

Milo does seem to be absorbing the fluids. He is not on antinausea medication. I guess I should have said syringe feed him ;-)
I will try to warm up the food. I have been abke to get about half the jar in him so far. We are taking a break for the moment. It is time for his shot, but I may stall for a little bit to get some more food into him.

I hope I didn't come across the wrong way. Sometimes beans can be frazzled with syringe feeding and do feel like its force feeding LOL. We want them to be relaxed too  I think you should ask for antinausea medication. With a diabetic cat you want them to keep the food down. I would ask for ondansetron which can be bought cheaply at walgreens and some small local pharmacies. Call around. 1/4 of a 4mg tab. Vets often prescribe reglan/metoclopromide but in cats this is good for nausea caused by stomach motility (throwing up undigested food hours after eating). There are other options also - like cerenia for acute vomiting. And dolasetron.

Hugs.

hi guys - I am sorry that Milo is still no feeling well. I hope tings improve soon. Good luck - many healing vines from Mannie and me.

No Karrie you didn't come across the wrong way. So far, I have been able to keep a sense of humor. I just keep telling Milo he is a kitty burrito who has to eat. As for the Ondansetron, is that an over-the counter med or do I need a presc? I am going to watch him this morning to see if he vomits. Last night I carried him down to the little box shortly after feeding, and I was wondering if that triggered the vomiting.

aww .. poor milo .. hope he starts feeling better for you soon .. healing thoughts for milo and calming thoughts for you kelly!

Does he show interest in food when presented but just sniffs or licks and walks away?

Ondasetron requires a prescription. You may only need something for a few days if you need it.

Sending hugs.
