Aww Dyana. What a day for you and J.D. Do you think you would notice if J.D. got into the box... like wouldn't it be moved or turned over or something? I hope he didn't really eat a shrimp tail.
I see where Sienne mentioned Fortiflora. My kitties like that a whole lot and it is a probiotic. Also plain yogurt is a probiotic. When BigMac had diarrhea I gave him a teaspoon or two of plain yogurt. It helped.

Awesome!!!! Maybe the strong smell of catfood is making him nauseated. Hope he drinks some water to keep hydrated. He must be feeling yucky.

These are instructions I was given regarding vomiting and diarrhea with one of my kitties. I was told this gives the gut a chance to rest. Start treatment by withdrawing food and water temporarily to give the cat's digestive system a chance to calm down. Withdraw food and water for a maximum of 6 hours. During this time, make sure your cat can rest somewhere safe and quiet. During the 6 hour period, make some homemade chicken stock for your cat. Simmer one piece of chicken breast in a pot of water for a few hours. Do not add onions, garlic or salt. Remove the chicken breast and set it aside in the refrigerator. Offer small amounts of the broth. Hope this helps.
 
Sounds like he's dealing with colitis, which is basically just inflammation of the bowel. My puppy went through that, possibly due to bad food and the "cure" was to let the bowel rest by not feeding anything substantial (she was actually supposed to not eat for 24hrs, but I don't think that rule would apply for a diabetic).

I really hope J.D. feels better in the morning.
 
Dyana: Just getting in and seeing this and I was going to say the exact same thing as Jordan...sounds like colitis. I give my kits slippery elm bark syrup when they have colitis and it really soothes the intestinal tract. I hope he starts feeling much better...I'm glad he ate something for you. I also hope you get some rest...you had quite the night and now with all the stress of the day, I'm sure you are really exhausted.

I suspect his butt is sore from the diarrhea...if cats can eat mice, bones and all, a piece of a shrimp shell shouldn't cause a problem. I don't blame you for worrying though, I would probably be doing the same thing! I hope J.D.'s tummy settles down soon.

Also, you should encourage J.D. to drink.
Sulfadimethoxine is an antibiotic and also used to treat coccidial infections in dogs, cats, and many other species. Consult your veterinarian if your pet experiences discharge from the eye, redness of the eye, other symptoms related to the eye, pale gums, bleeding tendencies, vomiting, diarrhea, joint pain, increased thirst, or skin rashes while being treated with sulfadimethoxine. The pet should be encouraged to drink a lot of water while being treated with sulfadimethoxine to prevent crystals from forming in the urine. Use all of the medication prescribed, or the infection is likely to recur or become worse.
