Yesterday we got our little Nora, a little sister for Chico :cat::cat:

A couple of days ago we saw Chico interact with our neighbor’s cat and we realized that he is ready for a sister or a brother :woot:

Nora is adopted and it was love at first sight :woot: She came into the house and immediately started exploring, played all day and was just being adorable :cat: she is very loving, playful and smart. Chico is taking his time in accepting her  but she is gradually making progress in winning his heart as well :cat: (pics below)

hat are your tips in feeding 2 cats from which one is diabetic? Chico is eating raw with very little fat (due to suspicion of IBD), we are trying to keep him on a one type of protein source at a time. We want to feed her with commercially available wet food, which of course smells better to Chico as well  how to make sure he doesn’t have her food and she doesn’t eat his?

Very cute. Can one get get places the other can't yet? In other words, jump higher than the other? Or you can put together a box contraption with a small doorway for Nora's food, that is too small for Chico to get into. When I put Neko onto raw, the civvie also got it, must made life so much easier for me.

Transitioning her on raw as well would probably make it easier even though i would have to cook for them different food due to Chico’s restrictions o_O i have to look into such young kittens diet, fat content and if they can eat chunks :bookworm:
Thank you Wendy for your advice :bighug:

I've read that the ezcomplete it says to let kittens eat basically as much as they want. Not sure if you use ezc but I would imagine the protein source could be same maybe just more of it for Nora??
I use the european version of EZ, i will check what they say regarding kittens, maybe i am overthinking it
Thank you very much for the idea :bighug:

There's no reason your adorable new kitten can't eat the same food as Chico. All cats are obligate carnivores. Your kitten may need more food but the same novel proteins wouldn't be a problem for a kitten. My older cat has IBD and when Gremlin (kitten) arrived, they were eating the same food.
Thank you Sienne, this is very useful information. I am only worried about the reduced fat content in Chico’s diet, i know it is not recommended to give very low fat content to cats in general but we try to do this with Chico because we see a connection between increased fat content and the intensity of him licking his belly. We will have to prepare for her a different meal because of that. If our low fat theory will turn out to be false, we will be able to have the same diet for both, until then it will be 2 different meals for the two of them.

Omg! A kitten! Beyond adorable! Congrats on the new addition to the family.

Have you looked into a microchip feeder? Sure Feed makes the ones I have for Olive and Ruby. They are based in the UM so you may be able to get a hold of it. I love it, it was a total game changer when Ruby had to go on low carb, and now that I have to put supplements into Ruby’s food it’s become even more useful to keep the two cats’ food separate.

She is adorable! Those photos are so cute. Kittens do need more fat in their diet than adult cats as well as calcium and phosphorus for their growing bones and teeth. They need more amino acids and, well, just a lot more of everything really I feed all of my foster kittens Royal Canin Mother and Babycat extra soft mousse and I mix in a scoop of Breeder’s Edge Foster cat kitten milk replacer. This is after they’ve been weaned of course and we are no longer bottle feeding. I make a gruel mixture of this with added water. This ensures they’re getting lots of calories and all the essential nutrients that they need. My two Siamese foster kittens right now are certainly making good use of it! They’re eating a ton and growing like weeds. Best wishes for your new baby!

Thank you Katherine :bighug: I like the idea of the microchip feeder, this could do the trick, have to check what options we have around here.

welcome back :)

Thank you Suzanne for sharing your experience :bighug: that’s the reason i wanted to rely at least for a while on commercial food, i’m sure someday we will switch her to raw as well, but for a while when we still learn all these other things about the little one it would be easier to use the commercial options.
