Re: 03/02 Rex AMPS 377

Morning Rich ~O)

Quite the day yesterday :-D Let's see how fast Rex can clear this bounce grumpy_cat

Re: 03/02 Rex AMPS 377 +1 499 +2 385

Maybe Rex wanted his ears to have a break today. He is getting much faster at clearing his bounces though. I'm sure he'll be back in business in no time at all.

I take it Rex had no problem with the noise of the autofeeder?

Re: 03/02 Rex AMPS 377 +1 499 +2 385

Hi Wendy,

I think you are right - I will give Rex's ears a break and not test again until +11 to see any trends prior to feeding.

As far as the feeder, I just introduced Rex to the feeder by placing his food in one of the trays.
Tonight I will place his food in the feeder and let the feeder spin and serve it up. :-D

I will try to take a video of his reaction!

Re: 03/02 Rex AMPS 377 +1 499 +2 385

He just came down a lot between +1 and +2. I would test him again at about +4 to see how he's doing.

Re: 03/02 Rex AMPS 377 +1 499 +2 385

@Wendy - thanks I will do that!

Oh - and I have been using Neosporin on his little ears too :)

Thanks for coming down a little Rex. Remember you like the green lagoon!

Re: 03/02 Rex PMPS 213

Rex is taking his time to come down off his bouncy bounce!

But I am sure he will see lower numbers tonight.

Re: 03/02 Rex PMPS 213 +1.5 187 +3 171

Slowly going down! It will be interesting to see what happens next reading.
Would be nice if Rex continues his journey to the green lagoon! :)

Will test again in 1.5 - 2 hours (trying to give his ears a break - Wendy always reminds me - Thank You Wendy!!)

Re: 03/02 Rex PMPS 213 +1.5 187 +3 171

Nice to see Rex back in blue so soon. Paws crossed he'll be back in Greenland in no time.

Did you get a video of the autofeeder and Rex's reaction? I should get a video of Neko now - she gets her paws in there trying to hurry it around. I do love having the option to be away for a few hours and let the autofeeder take care of meals.

Re: 03/02 Rex PMPS 213 +1.5 187 +3 171

Hi Wendy,

I got home just in time to feed him dindin. The bus took forever to get home from the movies! Grrr :)
I will have to work on the video tomorrow. He does NOT seem to be afraid of it as a whole!

So right now I am feeding Rex twice a day. So how would you suggest I feed Rex with the feeder?
I would think that breaking up his meals would cause him to go Hypo during his Nadir.

I must not be understanding how the feeder would work while he is on insulin. :)
As ALWAYS any help would be appreciated!!!!!!!!

Re: 03/02 Rex PMPS 213 +1.5 187 +3 171

Looks like Rex's BG has stop reducing for the moment. ** My prediction is that Rex's BG will be lower at PM+11. (will test again at +11)

Wendy,

And I am planning on the following schedule while I am taking my class for the month of March.
It is going to be crazy!!!

0630 - Test/Feed/Shot
0730 - Test
0830 - Test (feed small amount of food if need)
0900 - Class Starts
1200 - Lunch Starts
1230 - Test and Check on Rex
1300 - Class Starts
1600 - Class Ends/Study Hall
1800 - Study Hall Ends
1830 - Test/Feed/Shoot

Re: 03/02 Rex PMPS 213 +1.5 187 +3 171

It is easier on a healing pancreas to not have to process a large meal at once. Most people either spread the food out in mini meals or let the cat graze. Neko is not a grazer, she's a hoover, so she gets about 1/3 of her meal at shot time, then the rest split into +1, +2, and +3. I put her +1 and +2 in the autofeeder. I probably don't need to split out so many meals. As an acrocat, Neko has a working pancreas, but that's what I started doing before I found out she was an acro. You do want to feed most if not all of the food before nadir. I seem to remember from what you said before, that Rex likes to hoover his food instead of graze.

People who can't be home all day (or stay up all night) will often put out extra food for their cat to snack on when they are getting low. So if you leave in the AM and you think Rex might have an active cycle, you could leave some medium or high carb food in the autofeeder for the times you think he might need it.

An experiment you can try if Rex goes green tomorrow, is to have some food in a bowl in the kitchen. Don't lead him to the bowl, but see if he will recognize that he is going low, and go to the bowl on his own. Then you know that if he is going low while you are gone, he will know to eat to bring his numbers up. This is all theoretical for me, Neko hoovers so I can't leave food out. But she does come running if she hears the autofeeder turn. So a second experiment for you is to see if Rex will head for the kitchen when he hears the autofeeder.

Looking at your schedule, it looks like you will be gone at +2, then back to check in at +6. Take a look at Rex's SS. At what points between +2 and +6 his cycle has he gone low? That's what you should set the AF to open.

Wendy - Your experience and insight is amazing. And your explanations are so descriptive! Thank You!

Yes - Rex is a hoover. I think if I leave out food and he finds it - He will eat it ALLLL.

I do like you idea of setting up the feeder for the time he might or has gone low.

With his new schedule, I will get an AMPS, +1, and +2. If I see ANY concern, I can feed at +2, and setup the feeder for +3, +4, and +5.

Oh Almost forgot to tell you - I ordered internet wireless cameras. They let me login and check on Rex from work and on phone! I love it!!

And if there is any movement I get an email with 8 pictures. So so so cool!

 You are right!

But for the off chance that he gets up to look for food and he starts to act a little strange.
I get an email notice if he moves, and then I can watch for a minute or so.
If something does not look right I can be home in 15 minutes!

Added benefit, I can also keep an eye on the house. We have had a rise in crime in the city! :(
And I get color video and audio in & out!
