Changing to PZI as of Feb 18/2011 as per Dr.Lisa Pierson.......

The numbers on Lantus have remained very high, and after being diabetic for over 3 1/2 months that I know of, I really need to bring the numbers down, and really want to stop her from suffering, and enjoy her sweet little life. Pray for my little girl...

Hi & welcome!!! Hopefully things will start improving soon. Is Dr. Lisa advising you on dosing, or she just recommended the switch?

You will find that we are much smaller than the Lantus board. There are always people on the morning and in the evening but not so often in the middle of the day. So be sure when you post to come back later to look at your answers. They won't be immediate but we will answer. And if you ever have an emergency, be sure to post on the Health board which is much more heavily traveled during the day.

PZI does not have a protocol like Lantus. It is more of a process. It is like Lantus in that we start low but we change the dose in a few cycles if it is not working. We don't hold it a week if there is no movement. We do generally raise the dose by .5 units. We look at the nadir to see how it is working, but the dose is also based on the preshot number and past history. This document has a lot of information: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=32799 It will also help you look at the spreadsheets of the other PZI users.

We're a friendly group and very happy to have you join us. Now the big question - how did he get his name? Does he chirp?
 
Hello and welcome Susan. Love the name Chirpie as I have a kitty, Max, that chirps instead of meows. Is the 238 today (2/18) on PZI? Paws crossed that the insulin switch will bring Chirpie better numbers. Go low numbers go!
 
Wow, Susan, Chirpie's numbers got a lot better right away.

Curious: Is your PZI a U40 or a U100 concentration. Are you using U40 or U100 syringes?

Yellow is a much prettier color than red and black. So much more soothing......

We usually suggest holding a dose for a few days to see how things develop, before you change. I really don't know if their bodies have to adjust to a new insulin, just like they have to adjust to insulin in general. I would guess so.
