It may be to early to tell or to even say anything for fear of jinxing it but If this is a breakthrough and he starts to have good numbers, Should I still have the acro test done or would it not be necessary? It looks like my cost is going to be around $200 total (ish) with vet, lab, and shipping. (this is just my guess) I honestly don't want to spend the extra dollars if I don't need too.

It looks to me like you could be right. Give him some more time to see is what I would do. Let’s see what Wendy thinks. @Wendy&Neko

There is no magic to the number 6 units, just that the likelihood of a secondary condition is very high at that point. Below that, around 25% of all diabetic cats have acromegaly. Valentino is a current acrocat on Prozinc is around 3-4 units, we've had others on small doses. There are trade-offs to not testing. One, you save some money. There have been a couple other cats that got to 5.5 units and turned it around. They weren't tested, so we don't know if they had IAA or acromegaly. Can't think of any other positives. Negatives, you might always wonder. Two, you won't be on the lookout for possible side effects that can happen. Small example, Neko had some red on a gum line. Her regular vet thought she had a bad tooth that needed pulling. Dental vet put two and two together and realized the gum had some soft tissue growth and the tooth above was rubbing the gum line. He shaved the upper tooth, she didn't lose the lower one. And three, there are some treatment for acromegaly that can give them improved quality of life and potentially do away with the side effects, but you wouldn't pursue treatment if you don't know what you are dealing with.

I'm not saying you have to get the tests done, but if you have any doubts or think it's a possibility, you should. I can't see Buddy in the same way you can, so this is your decision based on what you see every day. Other things to think about, has he had recent lab work? There are other conditions like hyperthyroidism that cause insulin resistance. Has Buddy's teeth been checked recently or had a dental recently? Again, bad teeth have been the cause of many higher numbers.

Yes He had all the lab work done 3 months ago and then a recheck a few weeks ago (to re check kidney) dental looked good.
The only other thing I can think of is over the first half of last year I slacked off and didn't stay on top of buddy so he was on his doses for a very long time and have read that too long on a dose can cause a resistance.

In the end I will probably just get the tests to be sure. And like you said, I will probably always wonder/worry.
