Pharmacology question for you - Vyktor's dental is coming up next Friday nailbite_smile The issue is which antibiotic to give (he has at least one FORL so there will be extraction/s). Vyktor cannot be pilled at the best of times let alone with a sore mouth. Vet is keen on giving a shot of Convenia but I understand this is not the best dental antibiotic and he had a shot of that on 12/31/2011 so I believe some will still be floating around in his system (not sure if this matters) and also I have noted some beans' comments that Convenia has worked for them a couple of times but then stopped having effect so if this may happen with Vyktor I would rather save the Convenia for potential later use.
Vet, nor I, think I'll be able to give Clavulox liquid (which he says is the best dental antibiotic) due to Vyktor's aversion to having things 'shoved down his throat' so we are considering Doxycycline which apparently comes in a caramel flavoured paste. I may be able to give Vyktor this in a pill pocket if he doesn't hate the taste. I asked the vet about sugar in it but he said it was the type of sugar (he couldn't remember which type) that didn't affect BG in diabetics. I haven't been able to find anything about types of sugars that are ok for diabetics by googling so I'm not sure what he meant or if he know's what he's talking about.
What do you think :?: do you know anything about this Doxycycline paste :?:
