02/12 Rhubarb ambg=50 vaccine question

Rhubarb is still doing well, and her offness was due to some mild constipation and what seems to be a change in recipe of the PC fish cans I was giving her.

It is time for her shots. I have never hesitated on vaccines for her since I spend time in a barn that has cats, and she also goes out in our fenced yard on a harness in the summer (supervised mostly). Should I be hesitant on vaccinating her? Is it costly to do antibody tests? I'd much rather do that to see if she even needs it.

In other news, I am sick of this cold weather! Rhubarb keeps wanting to go outside, so we open the back door, she puts one foot out, and bolts into the house lol.

Also, today is the first day that I am trying cbd oil on Mel, my anxious civvie. I'm starting her at 1 spray to go on the light side of the dosing. The label says to give 3 sprays.

I hope everyone is holding up, and sending vines for those who need them.

I can't advise you about the vaccines, etc. But I sure hear you on that weather mess...ugh. That's why we finally had to decide to get a place in SW Florida - I just couldn't take it any more. It's beautiful here - but I worry about family and friends at home - snow/ice, ugh :( I'll never forget. Sending you some sunshine, humidity and blue skies :)
 
The one vaccine I would never stop is rabies. I live in a 5th floor condo apartment and my three are strictly indoor. However, many years ago (different kitties then) in two separate summers a bat somehow got into my apartment. I woke up in the middle of the night to see a dark shape flying over my head and had a couple of avidly interested felines gawking at it.
 
I decided to stop all the vaccines 2 or 3 years ago. All my cats are over 10 years old and indoors only. The dog still gets vaccinated for rabies because he goes outside.
 
Rabies is required in NY state. With regard to the other shots, we had Rusty titered (sp?) and he had sufficient immunity that we didn't need to do the shots. Rusty was well over 10 years old at the time. Our new civvie, Gus, is 10 years old and is due for his shots in September. He spent 5 months in a shelter and had all his shots there. He will be allowed outdoors, with supervision, when the weather is suitable, so I guess we'll have him vaccinated again.

Hey there, the only vaccine I do, ( and Bubba is late right now ) is rabies only because it is required in my state. The same thing happened to us as did Kris and Teasel, a bat got into our house at night while we were sleeping and circling over our head, and Sug, GA awoken us jumping over us trying to follow the overhead bat. Since they are big rabies carriers and my cats go outside ( not Bubba while he's on the juice) I do that vaccine.

As far as the other vaccines, we are done. No more. Especially on older cats. I go by Ron Schultz, a veterinary immunologist. He claims after the initial vaccine and boosters most animals, dog and cats are protected for life. If you doubt, then have your vet do a titer blood test to see if there are antibodies present for the vaccine in question.

He says how vaccines are BIG money makers for the vets, the vaccine is cheap for them and quite a markup to the client. They are toxic and hard on our animals livers.
