Good morning, or afternoon as the case may be. I'm a little late posting today. I have a cake due tomorrow AM and it's complicated- caramel stained glass decorations, yellow cake, chocolate buttercream. I had to get a jump on it, I'm posting while it's in the oven. Basically at this stage I'm getting paid to experiment, and I've never tried this Martha Stewart yellow cake recipe before. The suspense is intolerable! :lol: :lol: :lol: If it's a fail, I have time to try again, so it's not dire. I just haven't found that perfect yellow cake recipe yet and I'm obsessed.

Chaos and I are seeing some action today! He's gone down almost 100 pts in 3 hours.Is that too fast? He's just his usual self, having nappus on the couch. He and civvie Lu are doing their "parallel kitties" routine, where they lie in exactly the same position a few feet apart. It is cute beyond words. Fuds have been consumed, tests done, shot given. All in all, a good morning.

One strange thing about testing, though, is Chaos's preference for his right ear. He does not like me to test on the right, only the left. Maybe it's because I handle the ear differently, having to change the position of my hands to work on the other side of his head. I'm left handed, and using the left ear seems easier for me, I just hope there's nothing going on with his right ear. Has anyone else noticed an ear preference in their kitties?

The parallel kitties sounds adorable. Awwww. Great +3 for Chaos *clapping*

Maverick really hated his left ear being tested (I'm right handed). Once his right ear looked a little bruised I had to give it a break and used the left. He would actually flinch and meow. He can now be tested on both ears (they both bleed but right bleeds a lot better). The right is now being held down close to his head so using the left to give the right a break. I guess he's saying it needs it.

We're going back up, +6 reading is 221. I am still trying to figure out Chaos's nadir. Sometimes +6 is higher than +3, sometimes not. I have a nice long day tomorrow with nothing much planned, maybe I'll do a full curve on him and see if I get anything more conclusive.

The cake turned out, but I overbaked it by just a little. :? Whoops. It's nice, light in the middle, but I wish yellow cakes didn't make such hard crusts around the edges. It makes them a real trial to level. Headed out for some baking chocolate for the icing in a bit.

The cake sounds wonderful -- I am at work and didn't have lunch so now I am practically drooling at the thought of cake! I have the same problem with Simon's ear. I am also left-handed and Simon seems to prefer when I test him on the left ear and when I do test on the right ear, he always shakes his head and throws the blood all over the place!

Interesting... so far three of three kitties prefer being tested on the same ear as their bean's dominant hand. It could be the way we hold the ear. I'm relieved to see other kitties with the same quirk; I'm not so worried about his right ear now. There's nothing wrong with the ear, he just doesn't like it! cat(2)_steam


:lol: :lol: :lol: celi, you crack me up! Honestly I wish I did have a panel of unbiased tasters who don't feel obligated to be nice. I feel like people are being too nice to me- I can't be that good right off the bat! The unfiltered feedback would be priceless.

I am available for taste testing too--MMMmmmmm! ;-) ;-) ;-)

Moonie will not even let me Touch her right ear, she freaks if I even touch it--That's her notched ear(that we think she got when spayed by some volunteer spay & release thingy)--Then she got spayed again!!! WE think!!!-We paid!! she had stitches!!

Any way-- she is fine with the left! --Make a beautiful cake , we know you will, you talented one!!

Chaos is having a pretty good day. I'm pleased with his PMPS, since it means he didn't go up much between now and +6. He's been aloof today, not as cuddly as on other days. He's like that, affection comes in cycles.

Another left-ear kitty, huh Moonie? And to get spayed twice.. well, I can honestly say I know how that feels and it sucks! :lol: :lol:

The experimental stained glass cake was a success! I am going to hold to my usual superstition and wait until it has been handed off to its loving home before I post the pic. If I can post the pic. I am still having trouble with that; it gives me server errors. Bleh.

We'll see what we get tonight and if we don't see blues/greens, we'll talk about a dosecrease in the AM.
 
Hi Violet - and Chaos. You have to post a photo of that cake - it sounds really interesting, very yummy, and I will taste test for you too. :-D

It has been a good day for Chaos - low yellows, splash of blues - not bad at all. maybe even lower tonight Chaos?

Mannie's a left ear kitty too, though I am right handed. Not too sure how that all evolved, it's just easier for me. I wonder if he would even care - he takes it all in stride.

Rusty's a right-ear too. I haven't even tried the left ear because I was told the right bled better! We used to try both with Stu, but his right ear bled much better than the left and in order to spare him extra pokes, we simply wound up using the right ear all the time.

My that cake sounds good!
