Good luck with the dose increase. You have to be consistent with measuring the dose more than accurate :-)

Testing will be like any other day. Break her morning meal into PS, +1 and +2 since she dives and since she is starting off higher, I think you can wait till +2 or +3 to test.

I'm going to look into callipers today to get that dose accurate everyday.
 
Tammy, I love using calipers! I started using calipers for Ruby's insulin on 12/20 and there is such a difference in her numbers as a result of being consistent (note, as Bhooma said, it's about consistency and not accuracy). After starting the calipers, I began to notice how many of the "zero" lines on my BD syringes were printed .25 units or more off, which meant I was inadvertently overdosing Ruby. Now I don't even look at the lines. It was really hard for me to see (get good magnifiers and a bright lightboard!) and it took me a while to get a hang of it but now it takes me about 3 minutes to get the dosing done.

Hi there, thanks for the great info. I’m going to take a look at calipers today. Is there any that you could recommend..that in your opinion are easy to use and are accurate?
Also a light board....great idea. I’m going to need that as well. I already use a magnifying glass and then hold it up to the light but now using calipers I will have to keep the syringe laying down.
My son has digital calipers. I don’t know how to go about figuring out the dose on the caliper. Is there a easy way of figuring this out? Do you choose millimeters? I live in Canada so I think that is the measurement on our calipers. Thanks for your advice. :)
 
The link Bhooma posted has all of the info you need. If you're in Canada you're probably using BD syringes. The measurement for 1 unit on a Canadian BD syringe is 1.5 mm although others are listed in that thread as well by Marje. You have to use the little arms on the right side of the calipers if you have BDs. Lots of people use the ones from Harbor Freight Marje mentions on the post. @JaxBenji recommends using a lightboard app on her iPad which is a brilliant idea but my iPad is too old and not bright enough so I got this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07H7KDTNG/?tag=felinediabetesfdmb-20
 
This is great. Saves me buying a light board. I will for sure use my iPad. I also just checked I use the BD 1/2 unit syringes. 3/10ml. So by the looks of Marje’s link I would use 1.5mm = 1u

So I will look at what calculation will be for 1.25u.

I would feed at PS, +1 and +2 of every cycle for sure. And then as needed. What are the usual timings of her meals during the day/night after PS+2?
 
Feedings are usually look like this...but can change depending if she’s hungry or smaller meals skipped due to sleeping.

This is just an idea. I actually don’t have her on a real schedule. If I feed her it usually looks like this though. Some days she’ll sleep all day so it can change.
She gets smaller meals more often during the day.
 
Ok... I am glad I did a +4 because Missy has had quite the drop. She is now 97.

Can someone please help with when I should be giving some MC and how much. She tends to drop quickly as you can see and doesn't always respond to MC right away. THIS IS HER FIRST CYCLE OF NEW DOSE OF 1.25U

@tiffmaxee could you take a look at my last message. Missy just dropped 144 points since last test. We thought this was going to be a flat cycle... Surprise!!! She's in green already.
 
This is fine. Feed her a little lc and get a +5. We often see a big response to the first cycle of an increase.
 
I know you said test at +5 but I was a little worried so I just did a +4.5 and now she's down to 72. Do I still wait to give MC? She finished her LC approx 20 min ago.

Give her another couple spoons of LC to see if you can slow her down.

My DH got me calipers at one of his favourite metal or woodworking tools stores. Can't remember if it was Summit Tools or KMS Tools, maybe your son can help. I got the EZCal brand. Look for the inside measure arms to be as skinny as possible at the ends, so they fit under the BD syringe cap.

At +10 Missy is now 133. She surfed in the greens from at least +4 maybe even sooner but +4 is when I noticed the drop. I know I didn't have to test her so much today but I really needed to know for my own peace of mind because she just started a new dose I needed to know how she was going to behave today and how this extra bit of insulin was going to affect her. Thankfully, I work from home but I do have to leave the house from time to time and having data to look back on is so helpful to me in planning.

I'm venturing into unchartered territory here. I know all the pro's here this is a piece of cake but Missy is on her first day of new dose 1.25 units. She's been green for a lot of the day and now is still blue and at PMPS 194.

What can I expect tonight?? Is this normal to have such a great cycle already? Is this too much for her??
Help... I have to shoot soon.... in like 12 min.

It is great. Go ahead and shoot. You have shot this number before. And you can monitor. She may bounce. We don't know.

Ok will do.... and I have to be honest... I didn't get the message in time to just give LC so I did give her 1 tsp of MC at +4. But it seems like it was ok. She was at 72 so I just did it and remember you saying it was ok if under 70 or 80.

I got the calipers too.. they were helpful
 
Missy at +3 was 232. Do you think I need to keep feeding her every hour?
The AM cycle she dropped between +3 and +4. :)
 
I don' t think she will drop as much since she's at 200+ at +3. I think you can stop testing. Feed and got to sleep. Leave food out.
