Feeling very positive here :-D The last two days we have been down to one wee each and again there was no wee overnight last night. Even though I got one two days ago I grabbed another urine test this morning - it was the first urine test that's shown anything other than dark brown for glucose - it was negative!!! Happy dance was duly performed

The bad news is I dropped the nearly full lantus bottle after drawing last night’s PMS  – I didn't drop it all the way to the floor just onto the kitchen bench but I guess it was still like shaking it. Will wait for his numbers to show if I've ruined it  or should I just ditch it and start a new one? I don't want to spoil the roll that he's on!

I emailed our ‘people helpline’ yesterday to find out exactly how reduced hours will affect me and hopefully they will get back to me within a week (leave entitlements and super are at least two things other than actual take home pay that will be affected). In the meantime I still have 25 hours of flex time ‘in the bank’ so I don’t need to make a decision urgently.

Unfortunately I can not work from home, it’s not that I can’t physically do the work at home but everything I work with is confidential information so it is not allowed to leave the office

It would also be very difficult (if not impossible) for me to try and manage his numbers using food with different carb levels. Binky's list is no good for Australia and although I have tried contacting many of the cat food manufacturers I generally have either had no response at all (to repeated enquiries) and/or I have been given several different answers to the same question. FF is a case on point - first they told me one variety had zero carbs but when I asked how this could be possible when it contained cereal they said oops, it actually has 1.5% carbs, then when I had someone else recheck they were told 4.5% carbs

Special thoughts for Sid and Lydia - keep flushing those ketones!

Recap:
AMPS 194
+2 245
+6 214
+11 263
PMPS 254
+4 173
+6.25 101

Hi Serryn, I hope your vial is okay. Try it out before starting a new one and watch if big difference in his numbers. Mine has toppled over on the counter a couple times, and it was still too good. I hope the work situation will work out for you and also financially work for you.Do you have anyone at all that can help you with Vyktor?

Re: 02/08 Vyktor AMPS 176

Hoping that you get the BEST news jobwise, Serryn...
I'll tell you...the second biggest sigh of relief when Binks went off insulin was
because i dreaded the thought of trying to treat him through a work schedule.
There are so many folks here who do so- my admiration is huge :-D .

If it were me, I'd wait to ditch the insulin until you see that it actually went bad...
I dropped the pens a few times, and never saw negative effects, but have never used a vial.
But beanie & I are were always on a tight budget

AND WE'RE DOING THE HAPPY PEE DANCE WITH YOU!! HOORAY, NEGATIVE KETONES!!!!!!!

I hope your work situation turns out ok for you. I don't suppose your office needs a mouser?

Yay on a clean urine test! I was hoping to get our first one today, Weezer was blue or at least 12 hours, but the strip still turned dark.

Re: 02/08 Vyktor AMPS 176

Hi Serryn,
I hope you can work out something with your job. Here's something else to mull over. I'm just throwing it out for consideration and maybe for other people's comments, since I have no idea whether or not it would work: Have you considered switching from Lantus to Levemir? Lev. has a later onset and a later nadir (of course, ECID). For example, Rusty's onset is generally around +4.5. By +5 or +6 he is on his way down, reaching nadir sometime between +7 and +8 (sometimes not until +9). If you are normally home around +6 (that would be noon, judging from Vyktor's SS), that would be an ideal time to get a good idea of how Vyktor's cycle is going, feed him his lunch, etc. In other words, you wouldn't have to worry about getting a +2. Vyktor seems to have pretty gradual curves during the daytime cycle--no dramatic dives--and Lev. is famous for leveling out the cycle in any event. You could use an autofeeder to serve him a snack around +9. By the time you get home in the late afternoon, you would be able to see from his number at +10 or +11 how he did after lunch and snack.

This is just a thought and may be totally wrong for you, since it is based only on my experience with Rusty. But I must add that it is nice to know that if you get a low number at AMPS you still have about 4+ hours before the insulin begins to kick in. In other words, you are shooting based not on where Vyktor is at AMPS or where he will be at +1 or +2, but where he will be much later.

Good Day!!

Ella & Rusty

Re: 02/08 Vyktor AMPS 176

Great news on the negative urine glucose-that's nice progress!

We dropped our vial of Lantus from the counter down to the hard floor in the first week- 2 months later and it's still going strong so it's not necessarily a death sentence for the Lantus. Are the pens available to you? A much better choice for us clumsy folk that I wish I knew about from the start.

Not unless I can train Meg rabbit to take his blood tests  My mum lives interstate and keeps asking if she should come over but she has two cats of her own and I'd hate to be responsible for them being in lock up (the cattery) especially when the duration of all this is unknown and possibly permanent. I think it's best that I save her for in case of emergency, like if I break an arm or something ANTI JINX! I moved across the country on my own so the people I know here aren't people I have strong bonds with and there's no one I would trust with Vyktor.

Glad to hear the lantus might be okay, I'm hoping it's just coincidence that his PMPS tonight was the highest number we've had in a couple of days

Brian/Celi I'm not using a vial I'm using pen cartridges, I gather you can't buy them naked like that in the US anymore.

Ella I think that is a great idea but unfortunately Levemir is not available in Australia. Based on my research I would actually have chosen Levemir in preference to Lantus. Now I just hope it makes it's way here in 2 years in case Vyktor doesn't achieve remission on Lantus, then we will have a plan B!

Linda - I did ask but apparently it's an OHS issue. I can understand they don’t want people bringing animals in but that reasoning annoys me a little because he is cleaner than at least half the staff in that office! As far as a small proportion of the 2,000 odd staff potentially have allergies, if that is seen as an issue then they should also ban people from wearing perfume. The number of times I have nearly been suffocated by a perfume overdose in the lifts!

Still pretty excited about our first negative glucose urine test!

Binks you are amazing - imagine finding an appropriate picture for such an occasion!!!

Chances are that the insulin is fine. You might want to consider the pens if you need to re-stock your insulin. I used the cartridges initially. I felt so much better about the pens since they are encased in plastic. It was an extra layer of protection.

Many of us work. While I can get early tests, I'm usually not home until PMPS. At least for Gabby, the early tests are more important since she usually hits low numbers early in the cycle.

FWIW, I don't use food that is of varying carb levels. I keep some HC, gravy based food in the house -- usually FF Gravy Lovers. However, HC food will give Gabby diarrhea, probably from the gluten that's in it. Instead, I use either honey or corn syrup to raise her numbers when needed. I'm a big fan of keeping things simple and just don't get use 12%, 15%, 20%, etc. food. A drop or two of a simple sugar works just fine.

Hi guys .. how exciting for that first negative urine test! Vyktor is looking really good in his blues lately .. I'm glad you don't have to make a work decision right away, sounds like it is a lot to think about ..

Yay for negative glucose!!! dancing_cat dancing_cat dancing_cat

My DH dropped our insulin on the floor over a week ago and it is still kicking. He is a bit clumsy and always in a hurry - not a good combo for delicate things like Lantus! I have considered wrapping it in bubble wrap    but so far things have been OK!
