Updates on Ethan kitty--

In the AM managed a few times to draw blood and get it onto the strip but not enough to read. I distracted Ethan for these tests by letting him lick some gravy from his pate (even though it is pate there is some juice in the can).

The success in this was relatively minimal head jerking and ear twitching. I might try some baby food for the times when I don't have any 'pate juice'.

At +10 I finally asked hubby to help me hold Ethan for a test. I was hesitant to have to hold him, but I came across 'Michelangelo's Blog' that someone shared and read that it would be OK to loosely hold him as long as he could escape if he panicked.

Hubby metered out treats and held while I did the test...despite him still flicking his ear we got enough blood (and not too much), although I might have poked through his ear :(. He didn't seem phased at all.

I know I am supposed to aim for the sweet spot, but I'm wondering what others do re: rotating sites/ears?

Do you stick to the same site for every test or try to rotate at all? I have been trying to rotate in the area around the sweet spot up to the ear tip, and to alternate ears (doing my best to avoid the marginal vein)...because his ears look a bit beat up.

No response from his vet on his bloodwork nor the very strange black spot/lump on his face...

Hi Erin yes you can rotate sites, on both ears.
If his ears are looking beat up a lot of members put a dab of pure coconut oil on them
Here is what one member said
I have copied this from one of the members posts
just make sure the only ingredient is coconut oil (mine is solid at room temp and I would take an itty bitty dab and rub on his ears)
It seemed to help with the healing
You might be able to get it at a health food store or just Google pure coconut oil
