Good morning ♥️
Missy had a good night. Her BG came down nicely. Good start to day at 257. Now I wait till +1 to see how quickly she wants to drop today. I hope it’s not drastic.

If she starts dropping quickly I may give her a spoon of MC to slow the drop as she is so early in cycle. Would you agree this is what I should do?

HAIRBALL QUESTION...
She’s been throwing up large hairballs. This is new in the last two weeks. Trying to give her something to help her with that. She has very mild inflammation in small intestine so vet thought maybe allergy to food, which is why I switched her food back to Wellness no grain pate.

Can I give her 1/4 teaspoon of melted coconut oil in her food maybe every other day? All hairball remedies have sugar. I’ve heard egg whites are good but wasn’t sure if that would be an allergen. Any thoughts?

Hope you all have a wonderful day! :):bighug:

The best thing for hairballs so dried egg yoke. Food fur Life sells it and also has a recipe for it on their site if you want to make your own. You can buy it from them or on Amazon. I dint think you need a +1. If the +2 is under 100 I would feed a little mc but otherwise Iwould stick with lc.

Great. I will look into the dried egg yoke. And good call on the MC if under 100. Makes a lot of sense. This is the kind of info I need so I’m able to act on my own. Thank you ;)

Absolutely correct!

I'm glad Elise was able to give you some info on the hairballs...I've not had much luck with anything - although lately (since I've started feeding Luci raw ground meat)...she hasn't thrown up a single time! Not sure if that's just a coincidence or what...but I'm so lucky not to have to clean up a single puked up icky thing in the morning in over two weeks!!

I used to think hairballs was normal but now I’m learning they aren’t all that normal. So I have been concerned about the amount of hairballs Missy has been throwing up. The other morning she threw up a huge one... 7” long. This has just started to become an issue in the last little while which is why we’re thinking maybe diet related. How often does your cat have hairballs? Missy is also long hair and loves to groom herself.

Well, that's just it...apparently some of her puking was related to her hyperthyroidism - who knew?? I didn't. And perhaps her food? I've started feeding her raw ground meat over the last two weeks (I made the switch after a couple of folks suggested that it would help cut down on the stinky, and I mean STINKY, poos she used to make...dear lord I knew the very second she used the LB from the stench that was emitting from it!!)...No matter where I was in the house I could smell it! I'm kinda hyper-sensitive to odors though...so it would stop me in my tracks and I'd have to dash in there and clean the LB..sometimes several times a day ... I've noticed that's better too...but I found it a remarkable coincidence that she hasn't puked in two weeks - one reason in particular is because after the I-131 treatment she received on Jan 11, I was instructed not to handle her waste - including vomit/hairballs with my bare hands - I was to wear rubber gloves and use toilet paper to pick it up to discard as it must be flushed and not put in the trash due to the radioactivity. I was ready! But never had an occasion to find the ever-popular hairball-puke that she seemed to leave me every week or so - usually on my rugs...rarely the hardwood flooring...although she doesn't discriminate...she'll puke anywhere...it's just interesting that right now - she's not puking anywhere - I'm grateful.

I hope you get to the root of the issue.

My cats don’t have hairball issues but they get the FFL egg yolk powder every day just because it is really good for them. I also feed a balanced, homemade raw diet using FFL and they have the shiniest, softest coats and no poo issues. Raw really does cut any stinky poo issues but it has to be balanced.

I also feed raw to butters using the Food Fur Life meal supplement, which she absolutely loves. The FFL website is a wealth of feline health information, if you haven't checked it out. Here is a link to their page on help for hairballs

Good evening
Missy started off pretty good today and headed into the blues for a little while but then started upwards. PMPS was spiked at 421. She went from 173 at +5.75 to 351 at +8.25. Pretty big increase in only 2.5 hours. :(

Wonder what she has planned for tonight :)
