J.D. has eaten a 1/2 can of FF this morning (that's 1st Breffis and 2nd Breffis). I had to get him (and me) up from bed and ready to go to the vet appointment. We have to leave, like now. Since they are squeezing us in, I'd rather be a few minutes early.

I just want his lungs checked and his mouth checked. I can't think of anything else. Maybe blood work. His regular 3 month blood work is scheduled for February 17th. I guess we could do it early, but I think the numbers would be scuewed (love my spelling!) because of the recent pancreatitis.

Off we go..

Re: 01/25 J.D. AMPS 406, +2.5 412, +4 198 back from vet

He just loves to dive. I'm glad I held off on giving him any R this morning.

J.D. ate his 3rd Breffis when we got home about 15 minutes ago. I just love the way he tries to grab for food and treats with his right leg and then wraps his right leg and paw around the plate of food to bring it to him and hold it there. If I had a camera near me, I would have taken a picture. I think he went btb. I wouldn't mind following, but I have things to do and maybe get a nice nap in later.

The vet said his lungs were clear and his mouth was good. I mainly wanted to make sure I hadn't aspirated him with all the pills he's been getting and the syringe feeding, and the vet said it is very hard to aspirate a cat and explained it well. I think between the two cats, we've only seen this vet twice before, and he's pretty good at explaining things. I like that.

I told him about the funny sounding purr when he was offered treats and as he was eating them, but then it stopped as soon as he was done with his treats. He said that it could be caused by the irritation from the pills being pushed down his throat and the syringe feeding? The syringe only goes across the very side of his mouth, so I don't think it's the syringe feeding, but he has been getting a lot of pills lately. This morning, I gave him no pills, not even his morning Denamarin.

I told him about the constant gurgling in his tummy and the stinky farts and the diarrhea for the past two weeks, and wanted to make sure it really was pancreatitis that was causing it. He said he did hear the gurgling in the tummy. He said they usually put them on an antibiotic and I said I had only given him one dose (two tablets) of Flagyl two nights ago, and that the other doctor said I could use it as needed. He suggested Clavamox for the irritation in his throat area and also to help with any secondary infections (or something like that) that could be caused by the pancreatitis trying to affect his other organs. I told him that Clavamox makes him inappetant and I have enough problems with inappetance as it is. I asked about Clindamycin, because I know that doesn't affect J.D. as bad as the Clavamox does and he said that wasn't the best antibiotic to use at this time. He said we could try a short 5 days course of liquid Orbax (Orbifloxacin) given once a day, so we got that.

I told him that I had not given J.D. his dental drops in the last two weeks, because of all the other pills I am giving him and how he hates the one that has Vitamin C in it, and I was worried that he had some sores in his mouth and maybe the Vitamin C was hurting the sores. He said he didn't see any sores, and did recommend trying the C.E.T. Salmon Flavored tooth paste instead, so we'll give it a go.

I'm glad I went to the vet.

I am glad his lungs were fine and the vet seemed knowledgeable and had a good manner. It gives you some peace of mind.
Yea, on J.D. eating to today. On his own right?

Re: 01/25 J.D. AMPS 406, +2.5 412, +4 198 back from vet

Yes, on his own. :) antijinx

Re: 01/25 J.D. AMPS 406, +2.5 412, +4 198 back from vet

It's been hard the past couple of days going to work, because he wouldn't eat much if at all before I left for work, but I would leave a bunch of food out and it would mostly be eaten when I got home (and I have to assume that J.D. ate some of it). He would eat only a little between the PMPS and +2 when I go to bed, and so I was occasionally supplimenting a little syringed MaxCal to make sure, and to get the Ultimate Flora powder into him.
Today, he meal fed. I wish he would meal feed all them time.

I have today off. J.D. goes to work with me tomorrow. I leave him to go to work Monday through Friday, then I may have to work on Saturday, and I definitely have to work on Sunday (as long as the Super Bowl happens that day, my coworker want the Super Bowl Sunday off, so I have to work for her). So, I have a long week of work coming up. Fingers crossed J.D. is feeling better and better.

Re: 01/25 J.D. AMPS 406, +2.5 412, +4 198 back from vet

Yippee for the good vetty report. That vet sounds nice. Answering all you questions, and offering suggestions.
I can picture J.D. pulling the bowl towards him  I am so happy he is eating! Continuing to send Appy/good poo vines.
That is some schedule you have next week :o Will you get to take any extra days off?

Enjoy your Caturday Dyana, hope you get a nice nap with J.D.

Re: 01/25 J.D. AMPS 406, +2.5 412, +4 198 back from vet

I could take extra days off, but if I don't, the extra day of work helps to pay the vet bills.

Re: 01/25 J.D. +2.5 412, +4 198 back from vet, +5.25 162

I should have asked the vet about his opinion on why J.D. likes to get his head all wet in his water fountain.
He often has a wet head and ears from holding his head under the water flow and diverting the water. I sometimes wonder if it's from his ears hurting from all the poking and the water feels good to him. I thought of taking a picture of him doing it last night. Anyway, he's been doing it for a couple of years (as long as I've had the Drinkwell Platinum Fountains), so it's nothing new.

As we were waiting at the vet, I like to take J.D. out of his carrier and hold him. He is laying on my lap, and has his head kind of resting over the side on my knee and he's just staring at the pit bull making all the noise across the room, and at the other dogs and people in there. He doesn't like going to the vet, but it doesn't seem to stress him too much. He portrays a very relaxed cat to all the other customers.

Off to the bank, before they close. It's snowing outside, and it's neat to see how the birds are flapping their wings to blow the snow to find the seeds I put out for them.

what a great vettie report! sounds like he's doing pretty good - and eating on his own, too!

i told my vet that i'd had to go back to work to pay for punkin's vet bills. she really liked that because you know some people won't do one thing beyond food for their cats. but the next time i went in, i found a 10% discount had been put on our account. i was happy to let it stay, given how i had punkin in there almost every week and i felt like i was keeping that vet practice going. i think of it as our "frequent flyer plan."

Dyana, great news on the vetty visit. I'm so glad to hear that J.D. is eating on his own (anti-jinx). I wish you well with the Orbax, Tommy has had that before and it does seem to do the trick. ;-)

Re: 01/25 J.D. +2.5 412, +4 198 back from vet, +5.25 162

Hi there

Nothing like the peace of mind a once over with a trusted vet can bring.
Also nothing like a Caturday afternoon nap to recharge a tired bean

Re: 01/25 J.D. +2.5 412, +4 198 back from vet, +5.25 162

Great vetty visit! Clavamox used to really upset Tess's tummy too and our vet switched her to Orbax and she did so much better with it. She didn't even seem to mind the flavor of the liquid. Luckily we haven't had a UTI in quite a while! anti-jinx!!!

Re: 01/25 J.D. +2.5 412, +4 198 back from vet, +5.25 162

I'm glad you were able to almost all your questions answered and relieve your mind. Sounds like you've found a vet that is open to suggestions and opinions from the owner and listens. That is so important. So many of them think they know so much more than we do, even though we're with our kitties all day every day and they see them for a few minutes every few months! ECID, and some vets don't seem to get that. I had a wonderful vet for 23 years that explained things very well, listened to me, took my ideas and suggestions to heart, and rewarded my loyalty with discounts, too. Sadly, she had health issues and retired last year, but the associated vets are still there (I like both of them), and the vet that bought the practice studied under Dr. RIchard Nelson at UC Davis. He specializes in Diabetes Mellitus. I haven't taken Cinco to see her yet, but I plan to. It just makes you feel so much better when you get a learned set of ears to listen to your concerns and share their opinions.

Glad J.D. is eating (anti-jinx) on his own and giving you such nice numbers today. Hope you can find time to relax a little before facing that crazy week!

I'm glad you had such a nice vet visit, and that J.D. is eating! :-D Paws crossed on the antibiotic. I hope you can get the picture of J.D. in the water fountain, it sounds cute, must be just one of those kitty quirks  I hope the rest of your Caturday goes well, and I'm sending continued appy and feel good vines to you.

Re: 01/25 J.D. +4 198 back from vet, +5.25 162, +7.5 161

Of all the animals I've had all my life, I've always thought I should get buy 10 get 1 free, but alas, I've never been offered a discount. I've been using this vet practice a long time and like their vets and we discuss the meds and tests and treatments. They probably talk about me in the veterinary staff meetings, because I'm not your usual client with a cat

Re: 01/25 J.D. +4 198 back from vet, +5.25 162, +7.5 161

J.D. is skip of the blue team today! Woohoo!!! Nice appy, too, that makes the bean much happier. :-D

Re: 01/25 J.D. +4 198 back from vet, +5.25 162, +7.5 161

Nice J.D. and vetty report!

I think J.D. sticking his head under the fountain is a kitty quirk and not related to his ears. My civvie, Noah, does the same thing - with both the fountain and the faucet. He actually sticks his head under the faucet, runs to his food bowl, lets the water drip off his head and into the bowl, takes a few bites, then repeats until he is done eating. He'll often already have his head under the faucet before I even turn the water on! Crazy, crazy cat!!

J.D. and I had a little snooze on the couch until PMPS. He only ate a bite of his FF. He went to his litter box, and did a poo (I'm not going to talk about it because I jinx him when I do) on the pee pad.

Hi Dyana,
I'm glad you had a good vet appointment today. :-D
It's interesting how J.D. likes to hold his head under water.
Sending eat more vines to J.D.!

Hi Dyana, I'm so glad you got the piece of mind from the vet visit that you were wanting. Great news that J.D. didn't have any lung issues. Hope the antibiotic will get his tummy to settle down and he'll regain his normal appetite soon. Sending continued appy and feel better vines to J.D.
