Hi Adrienne just did a search on our cite and copied what the member said
Ondansetron is better for nausea so see if you can get some of those. They are a human medication so the vet may have to write a prescription and you collect it from the pharmacy. Cerenia is given one a day and Ondansetron can be given 3 times a day. They can be given together if needed as they work on different pathways.

It's the generic for Zofran

Thanks Diane, I thought that's what the Cerenia was for too. I changed up her food today to salmon pate. She ate quite a bit of that.

I did some digging here and found this , Suzanne mentioned this on your Dec 29 th post
I copied it for you

Hi Adrienne. The Cerenia is for vomiting and to some extent can help with nausea and is also anti-inflammatory in the GI tract. If she really does not eat then you need Zofran for nausea if she’s showing the signs of nausea. But you had said before that she was still eating and drinking well. Is she still?

Cerenia and ondansetron work on different nausea receptors in the body. I find ondansetron to be MUCH better for nausea. Cerenia is great if there is vomiting involved. I would ask the vet if they would write a prescription for it. Almost all human pharmacies will have it, or can get it in quickly. It is pricey, but makes a world of difference in the kitties I've given it too, including cats with cancer. You definitely want the generic ondansetron and not Zofran (which is something like $20 a pill here ). Generic is more like $4 a pill, the dose I give for my cat is half a pill. You can also get injectible version, but it's harder to source and expensive in BC.
I have noticed she takes her time walking. If that makes any sense.
Do you think she's been gaining weight? I had one kitty with cancer (different type), who started gaining weight due to fluids in his abdomen. It made it harder for him to move. Did your vet ever talk about pain management? That's the other thing I worry about with sweet Molly and could be causing her to move more slowly.

I had Molly to the vet last Thursday January 19- The vet had said she's lost 3lbs, since November 29. That her mass has grown? I don't think she's in pain, she was pretty relaxed last night. Laying in front of the fire, and in her box. The vet also said to go by week to week now with how she is. I can mention the ondansetron, I hope they can write a prescription.

It may depend on the vet, but I've never had a problem getting a prescription for ondansetron. Some vets are old school and not up to the latest on anti nausea meds for cats, or the dosing. Make the case that you are looking for best quality of life.

Do I still give her the Cerenia? if they write the prescription

Wow great info in here, we should all save and tuck it away for later. You all are such a wealth of information, I can’t even sometimes.

I hope the walking slow isn’t due to pain. Think of it this way, if it hurts too much, she wouldn’t be walking?

I sure hope you can get a script for the meds. Fingers crossed.
