Good Morning,

We have been at 1.75 for tens days and have gone to 2 units this morning. The vet has requested it (actually has wanted us to go up to 2 units for a while). I had also been considering this increase. I will do a curve today, to watch the effects of the increase cat_pet_icon .

Hey Whiskers: Big Full Moon (the Wolf Moon) party tomorrow night at Camp Stu. Hope you can come. Mannie will pick you up in the bus. Lots of singing, dancing, feasting, and howling at the moon is anticipated!

Hi Lisa, Karrie, & Ella,

Thank you. We got a little blue with +4 199 :mrgreen: . Whiskers is doing well today, although she still likes to go off on her own. It took me about 6 pokes to get the +4, so I can't blame her for being a little crabby. We are try a new meter Bayer Breeze 2, I just couldn't seem to get enough blood. I think I liked the bayer contour better, but I have a lot of the breeze 2 strips, so we will try to improve. :? . We will try for a +6.

I hope you are all having a nice afternoon.

P.S Whiskers wants to know what the party is about? And She sure thinks Rusty is good looking :dizcat .

Hello,

We got a little more blue at +6 175. yeah!!!

I'm really having trouble with the bayer breeze2 meter. We have gone thru about 20 strips. Really awful. Whiskers ears are pretty bruised. I finally used our back up meter relion to get the +6. Does anyone else have experiance with the Bayer Breeze2 ? Am I doing something wrong?

Sorry no experience with the Bayer. Someone recently posted on the direction of blood flow which really helps. You put squeeze with one hand so the blood doesn't go past and then (for lack of a better term) milk the blood from the other direction.

I use the freestyle lite and it just takes a small amount of blood.3 since i test on Do Lou's feet and its works really well for me and it will not start unless you have the right amount but I have not used any of the bayer meters as of yet I also have 2 relions and the alphatrak for reference

Looks like you need almost double the size blood droplet with the Breeze2.

Yes, it seems to need more blood, I'm not sure what to do as it was donated to us and we have lots of strips, I was so excited because it was a huge cost savings to us. @-). But I can keep poking her over and over.

oooh that is a lot of blood. I think the relion confirm that we have only needs .3 of blood. It sucks up blood super fast too. We had it shipped from the US because it was so cheap (before I found out I could buy Aviva strips off ebay). The Confirm from was only 9$ and 20$ for 50 strips.

Whiskers - I hope you can make our party. All us kitties get together and celebrate the full moon. It's kinda fun - this month we are going to camp stu, and will have lots of good food, and dancing and howling at the moon. we have tons of fun! I have a bus that I use to pink up all us kitties and take us to the party. It's got fleece and woollies and stuff so we all stay warm. There should be skiing and skating and snowboarding and all sorts of stuff to do too. See you, I hoe ! ~ Mannie

That is an awfully big blood sample that your meter requires! No wonder you're having a problem. The ReliOn Micro and the ReliOn Confirm both require only .3; the strips are $20. for a box of 50. You buy them at Walmart. The meters are $9. They work very well. I switched to the Micro because my old meter (the ReliOn Ultima, an older Walmart model) required .6 and that was too big a blood sample to get out of Rusty's ear (I used it with Stu, whose ears bled more easily than Rusty's).

Here's another tip that I learned here. Blood flows down from the tip of the ear. If you put pressure somewhere near the middle of the ear (near the edge) while you do the poke, the pressure acts as a dam and you will get a drop of blood easier, especially if you then massage the ear down from the tip. It also helps to put a very little vasoline where you intend to poke. This helps the blood bead up and makes it easier to get on the strip.
