Food adjusted again, yesterday was 3 cans of Royal Canin D and 3/4 can of Weruva, today its 2.5 cans of Royal Canin and 1 can of Weruva.

Think tomorrow we will go to our goal amount of 2 cans of Royal Canin D and 1.25 cans of Weruva. Will overall have reduced his daily calories from 429 to 407, and his food will now be 50%HC and 50%LC instead of 80% HC and 20% LC. Then after he has been on it for awhile can check his kidney values to see how he is handling the additional protein plus will know how its been affected his BG numbers.

Was nice to see a yellow AMPS today, see how the rest of the cycle goes.

How long before you can know how his kidneys are doing on it?

Probably at least a month or two on the 50/50 and depending how his BG is we can talk to our vet about doing blood work/urine to see how his kidneys are. I know when we first changed him in April and got him off the Hills KD which is very HC, onto the Royal Canin D, Weruva and 2 tbsp of boiled chicken mix that we rechecked within 1-2 months and saw the kidney values all worsen fairly dramatically (1.8 CREA to 2.5) even though his BG had gone back to normal. We then removed the boiled chicken and adjusted the other two to compensate for the calories. I know we rechecked a month after that and his values improved somewhat (2.3 CREA). We adjusted the Weruva portion down again at that time since his BG seemed to be stable and rechecked I think 2 months after but his kidney values were basically the same.

It wasn't until we brought him in on December 16th that we saw all of his kidney values improve, 2.0 CREA, SDMA reduced and BUN same (his BUN always seems to be around the same), the more interesting one was his urine concentration being up significantly especially since his BG was so high and normally diabetic cats have dilute urine. So yea the values seem like they went back to what they were when he was on the Hills K/D even though at that time he was eating 80% Royal Canin D and 20% Weruva, which is what he was eating when we had tested prior. So I don't know if his body just got used to it, or what. His kidneys have always been odd, in a good way.

Nice! Did you get a +10?

I did not get a +10, I think we are going to have him fully switched over to 50/50 tomorrow and depending on numbers I can do a few more checks.
