312 Libre

Well we had quite a night. I gave a very small increase yesterday at breakfast and last night she dove (on the Libre). It stopped reading for 2 hours then it shut down (as it was reading in the LO range :arghh:
It was a new Libre which I installed the day before (since she somehow got her prior one to be unattached, my little wizard)

Sooo at midnight last night I heard the dreaded sound that the Libre had failed. By 12:30 am a new one was installed and scanned, giving data by 1:30 am.

I ear pricked her before the install and she was 166 on the Contour meter (but Libre earlier read her as LO).

Need her to be in decent numbers but not so low she shuts down the darned sensors.

We are at day 5 or her last B12 shot, next shot due on Thursday. Hoping she stays steady until Thursday.

Question about Cereina...I am currently giving her 16 mg daily (since July when her GI episode began). When I search our site (FDMB) there seems to be conflicting information on dosing.
Maybe she doesn't need such a large dose???

I see 1 mg/lb and I see 1mg/kg in various posts here

She is about 14.5 lbs (6.6 kg) at this time,

Based on 1 mg/kg that would be around 12 mg dose daily (Vetlens.com)
Cerenia for Cats: Dosage, Uses & Side Effects (2026 Guide)
or (Innovet.com) says about 1/2 of 16 mg pill (8 mg)
Cerenia for Cats: How to Use and When It Won’t Help

2 references with different dose information :banghead:

Any thoughts?

I am going to stop her Ondansetron today as I don't "think" she is nauseated. She's eating great (I started it last Wednesday when she had a GI bout again a day before her B12 shot was due last Thursday. Paws crossed and anti jinx).

Keeping Mirataz in place (every time I get rid of that all hell breaks loose with her bowels).

Hope you are all having a calm day!

Hi Staci, so glad Ivy is eating well! 😻 I am sorry you lost two sensors the last few days. 😥 This must be so frustrating! I just looked up how much Cerenia I gave to Binie. She was a little bit heavier than Ivy (around 7 kg) and the vet prescribed 8 mg daily. We also had the 16 mg tablets, so half a tablet. I checked on the German websites and they all say 1mg/kg, so 8 mg was even slightly overdosed. I hope you get some further insights. I learned over time that the American recommendations sometimes vary and usually they seem to give bigger doses with some meds. Good luck with the new libre! 🍀:bighug:❤️

That sounds like a tough evening Staci - I’m sorry that you lost two Libres in such a short span of time. Hopefully you’ll get some good advice - I’m thrilled that Ivy seems to be doing much better and may be able to come off or dial back on some of these meds soon :)

Ivy looks beautiful and very impatient for dinner in that photo! 🤣

Thank you Heike! I had a feeling it may be that kind of dosing. I am not sure how I ended up giving 16 mg. Of course now since she's so shaky I am afraid to change anything (like halve her dose) right before the end of her B12 cycle. She's due for the next shot on Thursday.:nailbiting:
Section on managing nausea and inappetance, a little over half way down. Maropitant is the generic name for Cerenia, and you can get the generic now. PO is the oral or by mouth recommendation. 2mg/kg is roughly 1mg/lb.
So 1 mg/lb (would be around 14-15 mg of Cerenia/mariopant pill) correct??? (would then be the 16 mg pill per day?)

Thank you Connie, another day in paradise over here! Just me fighting with more sensors :banghead:

The dose for Cerenia pills (for dogs, because there isnt any "official" dose for cats with the pills) is 2mg/kg (0.9mg/lb) Ive hardly ever used the full dose. Karamelle doesnt take Cerenia on a regular basis. Shes on Ondansetron but when she does, I give her 4mg (shes 11.7lbs). But my cat Oscar also gets 4mg. I give it to him e/o day. He just weighed in at 17.7lbs at the vet. I know its working because Ive tried to cut back more and he doesnt do as well. He does also have CKD however.
