Thanks for welcoming Parker to the forum yesterday! It’s weird but he does genuinely know every caregiver and cat here by name and face 🤣. And I’m really happy that he’ll be posting here sometimes. It was hard for him to be as involved in Moonie’s care while we weren’t living together (and Moonie was with me), so now that he’s moved in, it’ll be nice for him to feel just as part of this amazing community (and feel like he has equal footing in all the great information here).

I was a bit worried about this dose yesterday, because we stayed flattish in the blues all day until an evening dip at 83. I feel much better now that I’m seeing a low blue AMPS. Hopefully this means that we get some good greens on the number today and can stay here. 🥰

Happy Sunday and safe surfing everyone!

Moonie is back in the yard lounging again before it gets hot. Hopefully it’s nice where you are!

Moonie is the prettiest Moons! It's so strange how alike her and Mister's BGs are sometimes, his flat blues had me worried yesterday too.
I hope she surfs nicely in the greens and feels amazing today🥰

Also I was gone most of the day yesterday so I missed the introduction but hi Parker!! it's awesome to see another CG willing to come in, Moonie is one lucky girl to be surrounded by so much love and care

Awww thanks Elizabeth!

And right? I swear Miss Moons and Mister Man are telepathically communicating sometimes? Clearly they’d gotten the memo from Khloe who dived down first last night 🤣

So sorry I didn’t get to welcome Parker yesterday but I was pretty busy with 🐘s all day. I like how he said “Moonie’s other servant”. My DH calls himself the “backup human”.

I’m glad to see this dose is kicking in a bit for Miss Moonie. She’s so lovely in her grass. I hope you all have a great day.

Thank you Marje! I still can’t believe you work with elephants. That is literally on par with astronaut for me in terms of the coolest possible jobs.

And yes! We all know our places here in this house and I’m glad your husband sees himself similarly 🤣🤣🤣

I’m happy the 3u seems to be kicking in for Moonie too, especially after our last failed reduction attempt at the same dose.

I hope you’re having a wonderful day!

Beautiful numbers today, and oooo...lala..look at you shooting that PMPS! That's a perfect example of "shoot low to stay low." I know you've shot lower, but it's still pretty ballsy:cool:
Thank you! I was so relieved we started seeing greens today on this dose since she’d failed a dose reduction to 3u before.

And it’s all thanks to the coaching I’ve gotten from this forum that I could have shot that PMPS! And looking at Jude and Bell’s SS over time have been so helpful as inspiration!

Nice cycle Moonie!
Beach is fun. Let's stay here from meow on.

Also what I'm wondering is, if there is a picture of all your kitties together?
I know that's like meowssion imPAWssible when having multiple cats, but I want to satisfy my curiosity.
Omg that’s my dream! We’re going to try to do a Christmas card this year with all 5 kitties so we’ll see if we can make it happen. So far the best we’ve got are groups of 2 or 3.

If we manage it this forum will be the first place we post 🤣

But honestly we expect that we’ll have to use AI and photoshop probably to make the 5 kitty photo happen for Christmas.

I love the photos you have with Peanut and Nestle together. They seem really good about posing for you!

You’re welcome. Yep I am pretty lucky but caring for six elephants, 3 adults, is hard, physical work. Everyone thinks we spend the day petting them and hand feeding them but training and health care only takes 1-2 hours total. Most of the time is spent on cleaning and more cleaning, diet (an adult eats 300 lbs of food a day), working on enrichment, etc. But I really love it.

I hope she keeps chugging along!

Haha if you do that you'll be entertained for hours

Wow Karolina!!! It’s hard to believe these aren’t actually perfectly AI generated photos! They’re such purr-fect models in front of the camera! I have no idea how you got them together looking at the camera at the same time in the third photo!!! But it’s so cute! 😻😻😻😻😻

Thanks Marje! Wow 300 lbs of food 🤯

I can’t imagine how much bathroom activity that amount of food generates!

It sounds like a ton of work but also amazing - I’ve always read so much about how intelligent elephants are.

They are extremely intelligent. Often smarter than humans. Ours have 55 trained behaviors so we can do all our health checks without sedation and with their participation. We only use positive reinforcement so they are not required to participate but they seem to really love their training sessions and learning. They can be quite silly. Our bull taught himself how to do “raspberries” through his trunk. He loves to do it to get our attention. 🩶🐘

Omg that’s crazy! They’re even more intelligent than I had thought.

If only we could do that with our kitties… the problem is that you don’t train kitties, kitties train you 🤣

I love elephants so much, it hurts my heart to think of how they've been treated. They can process extremely complex emotions like grief, empathy, envy... For me, the more time I spend with any animal and discover the intricacies of its worlds and behaviors, the more hazy my human-centered idea of intelligence becomes. One of the few good things about dealing with FD.

I stumbled upon this awhile ago and have found myself returning to it when I need a reminder of that ^

It always boggles my mind how much good and bad people are capable of. Somewhere in the world, there were people who did horrible things to exploit elephants, but there’s also a man who plays piano for elephants. And Marje who dedicates her free time to feeding, enriching, and caring for them in her free time :)

I cannot stand any form of animal abuse & that includes just not providing all they need. We don’t travel to any country which uses elephants as work animals or which allows trophy hunting or elephant culling.

I also am against zoos having elephants if they can’t provide for all their needs and have a herd. We have 12 acres for our elephants plus a very large barn. They have mud wallows & sand pits we maintain daily; an enormous pool over 14’ deep; different substrates (grass, sand, rock); varied elevations and high hay nets so they can exercise their muscles; and we put out truckloads of tree limbs which we scatter all over the habitat twice a day so they have to walk to get it. We also are one of the only zoos which does herd births as in the wild. If a zoo can’t provide the space & most of that, they shouldn’t have elephants.

I measure our success by observing their behaviors & comparing it to the elephants we see in Kenya each year when we are in the field with the biologists studying elephants and I see ours exhibiting natural elephant behavior 🥰
