Another great AMPS! I overslept my alarms this morning. Thankfully I had checked Mister's +9 since he was breaking his bounce and wasn't sure how low/long he'd keep dropping, and thankful that he’s still pretty flat this morning. I know I over fed him (carb wise) a bit last night too but I was just so tired that I needed to make sure he would be safe when I went to bed because I knew how tired I was. And sure enough, both alarms went off and I didn’t hear a thing. I just started a new medication which will take me a little bit to adjust to and I know that also plays a part. But that’s sooo stressful. I need a better game plan.

I want to be able to go to sleep at night knowing he's going to be safe. I want to get better at recognizing and predicting patterns. I wish I could come up with a way to use his automatic feeder that doesn't include locking him in my room so the other animals don't get it (I don't think he'd go for that anyway, the middle of the night is his most active time, he runs the house). But being so tired that I over sleep isn't good. I want to be able to know when it's a night to stay up vs just staying up every night because I don't know what he's going to do yet.

I'm thinking about moving his time even earlier, to 5am/5pm. That would allow me to stay up and monitor his cycle while still getting to bed at a decent hour. I'm even further from that now, so I'll have to work at it every day until we get there.

Nothing else to report, and all good news otherwise. I hope everyone has a great Friday!!

Hey Elizabeth, I’m happy to hear you’re working on a new plan to get better sleep. I was really concerned about you the other night when we were chatting about it 💜

As for the slow feeder situation, I have 2 food thieves in my house and neither one of them is Khloe. I’m planning a better solution later but maybe what I’m building will help you! I bought a really big plastic tote, a cat door with a sensor that only opens to a collar, and I already have the auto feeder. I drew a rough draft to explain the idea better than I can with words.

I plan to eventually buy a nice cabinet to do the same concept and add motion lights, a camera, ect but that will have to be at a later time.

Do you think something like this would stop your other pets from stealing Mister’s food?

His SS is really showing progress. You are doing super handling it.

it seems like he doesn’t drop lower at night once you get him to +5.
I agree, I was just thinking how good it feels to be able to see such nice changes in his SS. So much of that is because of your help with him 🫂 look at these longer stretches of blue!

That’s good to hear because that’s what I thought too, which is why moving his shot times would get me in bed much earlier if I wanted to wait for nadir before going to sleep. I’ll walk him back to get to 5/5 and see how that goes.

Thank you again !

This is so cool!! When I can afford it I’d like to get one of those feeders that open with their microchip, but this is the same concept! I’d love to hear your updates once it progresses

Have you found an auto feeder for wet food with a microchip reader? I’ve searched all over for one and couldn’t find one that did it all, I’d love to check it out if you found one!

I've tried this!!! For my civvie, who was a hard grazer and I couldn't leave her food out for Binx to eat. I found it easy enough to put together, I'll drop some tips below. It didn't up working for my civvie because she wasn't food motivated and was a shy cat, so never came around to the idea. But of course, Binx caught on really quickly and because the tote was clear, he would just sit and stare at the box wanting to get in or trying to get through the door. So I do think it could work for the right cat!

What I found helped:
- cutting a clear plastic wasn't great but I saw someone online say to tape over the line your cutting to prevent extra breaking. also, I used a hair dryer to warm up the plastic to make it easier to cut (I was just using a box knife)
- measure twice and cut once is true... the first time, i traced the door upside down 😂
- did some slow training with the door open first

A beautiful cycle today from Mister! I hope you're able to find a way to get some rest for yourself, it's important but I understand the struggle when evening cycles go lower! Data is good so that in the future, you'll go to bed/rest a little easier knowing where Mister is trending.

Thank you! I’m saving your comment to come back to in case I decide to go that route! What a great idea. I just know my little girl cat would do anything and everything to try to break in, she gets into EVERYTHING 😆but she’s also not the biggest fan of wet food, I have to get creative to get her to eat it, so even if she did I think it would be safe. It’s my dogs and Siamese cat that need to be kept out.
What kind of sensors work for collars?

Mister…can you get any flatter?! :D. Nice little run of blues today, he’s parked himself under a beach umbrella for now. Maybe pondering dipping a few paws in the lagoon tonight? Maverick used to do Zumba classes on the beach for all the kitties, just to get kitties exercising and burning off those carbs. Maybe if Mister is hanging on the beach tomorrow again, he might want to restart them?

I’d say he is up for the challenge!

Here you go: MeowSpace | Selective Microchip Pet Feeder for Cats & Small Dogs

Expensive, though. You can DIY something with a large tote box, a microchip pet door and tools to make the cuts and air holes. Maybe even take one of those DIY cabinet-type cat litter box enclosure ideas and turn it into a feeding station with a microchip door.
Thank you ! wow this is so cool, a bit out of my budget right now but it's cheaper than I expected. I'd love to have one of these eventually. I wonder if it would scare him, but then again he loves his boxes, the more enclosed the better. Worth checking out later on.

Time to re-shave Mister. Wow his hair grows fast! Pretty sure I missed a drop of his shot tonight. Not enough to be a big deal, but I could see it sitting on top of the injection sight. Come on Mister, keep this beautiful beach streak going🙏

Is it going any better since I sent you that photo of Gracie’s shot placement?

I miss the old days…… not the FD but our crazy crowd. Remember how Jill and Libby were always on us for partying too much?

I think so! I have the 45 degree angle down pat now, that’s another thing I was missing sometimes (I realized this when practicing on Calliope). I also moved it down just a touch. I was a little nervous as you know thinking “omg what if he’s not been absorbing it all and then he gets the full 4.5u and tanks” but after spending hours reading through other similar situations in the condos I realized that’s not really how it works. So far so good.

If it works, it'd be great! Maybe you can entice Mister with some treats/dry food first and that trick her with some wet food later haha. I ended up going with a door that works with their microchips, so no collar needed, I believe this was the one: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B096SWP1YV?tag=felinediabetesfdmb-20
