I want to thank all who replied yesterday and helped me out. It was a BIG help!! Im going to print out key things and read them over and over. Nothing like starting over after 2 1/2 years. Anyway, thanks again. 🩷 🩷

I decided to test throughout the night to see what she was actually doing, at least last night, since shes not in a bounce at the moment. Of course in the process I forgot to take one of my crucial supplements I take at 5:30am so it can be on an empty stomach. Oh well. Ive always known I cant think about too many things at once or my brain fizzles out.
Looks like she just coasted down nicely, although I wonder now how far down she might fall. Im testing at +2 now so we'll see. Or is it low enough she should have the MC food? She was at 103 about 45 minutes ago. The chart @Marje and Gracie gave me (so helpful btw) says regular food above 70 but also says if dropping fast feed MC. With the numbers I took all thru the night, it doesnt seem like she dropped that fast, but it was in a downward motion all morning.

Feeling a bit better about things this morning. Although I always feel good when Karamelle feels good and with these numbers, she feels good. I do think she is sensitive to any numbers below 100, so Im wondering if I should try to keep her above that number.

Decided to do a +1, just because. its up one point to 104, hmm. Does this mean its on its way back up or is it teetering?

The chart @Marje and Gracie gave me (so helpful btw) says no food above 70
Please reread it. It states ā€œabove 70 regular foodā€ not no food.

She’s approaching the end of her cycle. I expect you will see her drop +3 to +4 so be sure and test.

Keeping her in the 100s is an excellent goal and we will try to get there with her. I’m glad you are feeling better about it all today.

Great job last night. Good info that she slowly came down as we would expect with Levemir.

Oh yes, I know it just meant just regular food. I will edit that if I can. Sorry, just worded that wrong. Im out today between +5 and +7, so will be sure to test at +3 and +4 just to get a handle on things.

So I did a +2 as well and she dropped to 65 so I fed a heaping teasp. of the same food from yesterday and she ate most of it, 19grams (14 kcals) I fed at 10:40am, a bit after +2.

Interesting that she dropped a bit earlier than usual Lev onset. Glad you followed your gut. The grams and kcal don’t tell us anything….it’s the % calories from carbs so I can tell more if you state you fed her 1 heaping tsp of 15%.

I’d retest 30 mins after she finished eating. We don’t want her going any lower and she is VERY early in the cycle. We might need to reduce her dose again but I’d like to see how the cycle plays out.

You're doing a great job keeping her on the surfboard, Jo!!
I hope you're able to sneak a nap in today after last night 😪
Keep it steady, little Karamelle!!

Thanks Mary. I feel ok. Just started taking this cocoa powder and its got a lot of caffeine in it, maybe too much, lol.

Well the mc 15% didnt work, its now down to to 59. I gave her some FF gravy Lovers Beef pate, says its 20%. Will test again at +4. Or should I test sooner. I gave the food at 11:40, a little after +3 and +3.5 is at 12pm.

I totally missed your comment, the forum isnt auto updating and I guess i didnt refresh. I saw Mary's comment but not yours, weird. Since it dropped again, and I gave the 20 grams, about heaping teaspoon (although it was pate so I just sliced out about 1/4 of a can or so of 20% FF gravy Lovers Beef. Although, I just looked at the Penny's chart and its says its 18% but doesnt mention pate, so who knows.

Whenever you are monitoring and feeding lower numbers, you want to test again about 30 mins after they finish eating.

I’d also reduce her dose to 0.75u bid tonight.

Ok that worked, tested at +3.5 and shes back up to 72. Will test again at +4.
Excellent but she’s just onsetting so she has a long way to go in this cycle. If you can keep tabs on it, I would. If you need to leave, offer her some more 15% but I won’t want her coming back down below that 59 if we can stop it. I wouldn’t feed the extra without checking her first if you need to leave.

Hey Jo, nice to hear from you again. I would keep an eye on her because some of those Fancy Feast Gravy Lovers Pates I think are actually lower carb than the regular Gravy Lovers. There were a couple threads recently talking about it.

Also, if you ever use the forum on your phone, we have an Android and iOS app now that will send you live notifications.

I do need to leave, at 1:45pm, so I will test at 1:30, which is +5. Then I probably cant test again till +7.

Oh ok, I was wondering about that too. I hope she doesnt bounce this time, since so far Ive caught it before she went under 50. But in the past shes bounced at much higher than that. So we'll see. I will reduce to 0.75 tonight.

I’d rather her lose duration from a higher carb food then have her go low. If she loses duration, no harm done and she will come back down. If she goes too low and bounces, we’ve lost our momentum.

Everything Im finding says its higher. I found one that said the beef was 20% but on Chewy, someone asked a question about this variety pack.

Fancy Feast Gravy Lovers Feast Pate Variety Pack Wet Cat Food, 3-oz can, case of 24

and this was the answer.

What is the percentage of carbs on an as fed basis?

Answer by • Jun 28, 2024
On a dry matter basis, the Beef Feast contains 18.0% carbohydrates, the Whitefish & Tuna Feast contains 17.8% carbohydrates, the Chicken Feast contains 17.8% carbohydrates, and the Salmon Feast contains 18.0% carbohydrates. On an as-fed basis, all the recipes in this variety pack contain 3.5% carbohydrates

I actually might order this.

Great job so far today Jo!! I’m so glad to hear you’re feeling a little better about things. There’s so many ups and downs to this. When you said ā€œwhen she feels good, I feel goodā€ and I could have written that myself. So much of my emotions are tied into Mister’s wellbeing.

Hopefully Marje can drop in soon and help you with the feeding, I don’t want to steer you wrong. If +7/+8 is around her nadir like she mentioned with Levemir, she probably won’t be going too much lower.
Her SS looks great today.

Hi Jo, This bit of advice is one I'd heed right now: "I’d rather her lose duration from a higher carb food then have her go low. If she loses duration, no harm done and she will come back down. If she goes too low and bounces, we’ve lost our momentum."

Given that advice, I'd make sure to keep an eye on her and grab a +8, since Marje says that is the typical nadir point for Lev. If she's lower than you'd like you can decide to give some food to keep her steady (and from dropping too low).

According to Marje's chart she gave me Lev Nadir is at +10 to+12.

I’m sorry, Jo. We had to go out and it took much longer than I had hoped.

What a beautiful cycle. So you are at +8.5 now and she’s holding steady. I looked at her SS and I found only 3 times that she dropped from +8/+9 to PMPS and she didn’t drop to an unshootable number. Why don’t we see what she is at +9.5. That way if she’s trending down, we can give her some food (LC would be best if she’s above 70) and see if that sets her up for a good PMPS. But, no food for now.

How do you feel about that?

What if I just test every hour till PMPS. That way I can see what its going to do. Karamelle is so good at getting her poke. She actually reminds me if I go too long in between them.

That is up to you. Data is always great but I didn’t want to push you two.
Im wondering if the dose has been too high for a while now and thats why it was plunging and bouncing so much. Its been so nice today after the 3 day bounce. Im still going to lower it, because I think 59 is too low, but I hope it stays in the low blues at least. That would be so great! Karamelle is feeling really good today, rolling around and even spent some time out in the catio. And shes not hiding behind the portable stairs at all today. I cant thank you enough for stepping in and trying to help me. Im sure I will still need a ton of help but I do feel like Im on the right track now. I still havent dealt with the low preshot numbers and really hope I dont have to, but I do need to know what to do.

Yes she has been overdosed but you were doing your best.

She might still bounce and we might have a bit more work but I’m happy to help you. I’m actually in the country for a few months so I will be around (except Wed & Sat) but the beauty of the board is others being able to help and I know @Christie & Maverick is also looking out for you.

Jo

I just saw her PMPS and it was really good…..139, I think.

I have to go to bed soon as I must be up at 4 am but I wanted to do a synopsis of the day for you.

Onset today: +2
Nadir today: +9
Duration: even with the 15% food, she maintained her duration for the most of entire cycle. I say ā€œmostā€ because we haven’t seen her BG before onset tonight to see if she held onto blues. But she’s done pretty great (so have you).

You managed her curve beautifully by slowing her down before she could get into low numbers. Yes, she earned a reduction but you got her nicely flattened out.

I hope you can easily see the above. Because there was no bouncing, no honey, etc today, she gave you a good cycle for interpreting the numbers.

I’ll be in bed when she onsets but if she’s lower and you need help, post. But, if you need to give her carbs to bring her up so you can sleep, you should. Like I said earlier, I’d rather you give her some higher carb food to keep her safe so you can sleep then to have her fall gradually all night and give you a low AMPS.

Does all that make sense?

Yes, it finally does all make sense. I hadn't planned to test much more. Maybe do a +3 instead of a +2, but that's it till +11.
