4/20/26 Question on Foods - Has anyone tried this with success

Kaz has both diabetes and now kidney issues. I have been researching looking for a plan and I wondered if anyone had tried the following with any amount of success.

Thinking DM for breakfast and then NF for the three snacks during the day then NF for dinner and DM for three snacks overnight???
Anyone has tried this approach please let me know.

Hi Claire! Does Kaz have high phosphorus?

Have you seen Andrew Hall’s food chart? He has % calories from carbs as well as phos content for a lot of foods. Weruva has some good options.

Yes I have this chart and Kaz has been on Weruva for nearly three years along with Tiki.

What stage kidney disease has Kaz been diagnosed with? Do you have recent lab results? You don't need reduced proteins in the early stages. Rather, you want good quality protein. I managed diabetes, kidney disease, heart disease and small cell lymphoma in Neko. I looked for low phosphorus, low carb food. A lot of it was raw food.

I was told last October that he had kidney issues and was given a supplement which pretty much does nothing. I was actually the one that diagnosed Kaz before the vet confirmed it. I am trying to get him in to confirm but I believe its moderate bordering on severe. He has a really bad breath which I told the vet about in October. The breath itself says that the stage would be 3-4 which is chronic and he is now drinking a lot water.

Trying to get him to the vet to get him looked at for reaccessment.

There are other things that can cause bad breath, such as bad teeth/gums. Blood work results (and urinalysis) can help you stage kidney disease.
