we’re doing ok considering.. ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹
been really wanting to come on and post but just havent had the energy.. and just slips my mind.. not even updating SS properly.. also dealing with some health stuff myself right now (my eyes are hurting a bit and inflamed lol.. waiting to see if can hold out for an Opthamologist hopefully tmw..) and some other things..

so today not feeling so well.. and neither is nugget. his appetite isnt great.. but ive been only giving the Mirataz when he’s off food.. going to just give it regularly as was suggested to me (💖) but like every 3-5 days or something, see how that goes, cause what ive been doing is that w the kidney kitties they sometimes metabolize things more slowly i heard because of it and just trying to avoid potentially overmedicating.. so i try to wait til hes off eating a bit to give more.. but idk. its better to also avoid that.. (advice appreciated if any out there 💜.. but yeah..)

his numbers tho have been nice and a relief.. but i dont try to test them. just have had a few skips lately cause of an event and some health things on my part.. i dont like it; just glad its been ok. and hoping it goes ok today too cuz not comfortable shooting anything w his appetite stinky this morning and my not feeling well unfortunately.. he got some Mirataz and seeing how he does. shouldve gave it yesterday.. 🫤.. sigh.

been having trouble w his binders.. but misread the dose and realize its actually not so bad (Niacinimide). also trying to give the hydroxide, cause it indeed brought things down but not enough (@Suzanne & Darcy ❤️‍🔥..) to be fair, tho, consistency has been up and down w them… im trying to get everything in everyday and its not always successful.. he sometimes has trouble w the 4 sized capsule.. 5s hes ok. but ran out. ordering more today.. but he does his best. we do our best. hes anemic now also.. im sure thats part of everything too.

im trying to do my best to be positive and take it a day at a time.. but im struggling to do this the past few days. im struggling to carry it all. think im burnt out. am griefstricken, too, honestly. ive just kind of accepted things.. and am just sad and unhappy. so many things took us for an ugly walk loop. but what can u do.. im hoping he’ll feel a little better w the Mirataz. my thing is tho too, even tho im pretty much doing everything for comfort, managing nausea, hes getting fluids, etc am i forcing him to eat (giving him the Mirtaz)..?.. thats not good either is it? but he does seem to feel better once it kicks in.. 🫤❤️‍🩹

It could also be the phosphorus.. but im doing my best. 🥲 lets see can get that down a better amount.. i need to put up all his stuff. potassium is better. phosphorus came down a bit. other things stable.. sigh. ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹..

also doctor suggested we could do Telmisartan as his BP is elevated.. im nervous to because of how things went w the Amlodipine.. but oh well.. trying to start that too soon. need to be taking more readings also myself.. so much has dropped off cuz of everything.. but im trying. ☹️

@Suzanne & Darcy @tiffmaxee @Staci & Ivy @Allie & Gen @Wendy&Neko ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥..

(just big thank u to everyone always and again for helping me thru all these things.. its been hard and dont know how wouldve done it. ❤️‍🩹..)

t. hes anemic now also.. im sure thats part of everything too.
What is his HCT or PCV?

etc am i forcing him to eat (giving him the Mirtaz)..?.. thats not good either is it? but he does seem to feel better once it kicks in.
I think you have just answered your own question— he seems to feel better with the Mirataz. And you are giving anti-nausea medication. It is true that Mirataz is excreted via the kidneys and drug clearance is reduced with kidney impairment — so giving it to him every other day or every third day is okay, but you need to go by his appetite and behavior and decide the dosing interval.

I saw your post on the kidney group about your struggles. It does sound like you are really getting burnt out and sad. Don’t give up; keep going with the things you already know to do. Pudge is counting on you. You are making a positive impact for Pudge.

Do take care of your eyes ASAP!

With those tiny gelatin capsules (5s) that would be a lot of capsules to give for binder. I wish he would eat food with the AlOH in it. Sigh.

Good morning, Yasmin! I was just scrolling through Chewy.com and checking on my orders and I saw that Chewy makes a compounded LIQUID Aluminum Hydroxide phosphate binder! This could really help you with Pudge. How about asking your vet for an Rx for this? The vet can even order it from a compounding pharmacy that they work with like Wedgewood Pharmacy if they want to. Chewy may be less expensive? Not sure. If you could get this then you could just syringe a dose into Pudge’s mouth before meals and snacks… and skip the capsules! I got so excited and thought of you and Pudge so I raced over here to post this. You would have to find out the dosing equivalents between the liquid and the powder (how much liquid to give.)

Another thing I just thought of…. last week I took my kidney disease (AKI) girl to the Internal Medicine vets at UGA for a recheck and they want me to start a supplement called Porus One (a little packet that is mixed in food and is reported to be well-tolerated by most cats.) I questioned whether this stuff really is beneficial and she assured me she had consulted with another IM vet who had been using it with a lot of her CKD cat patients and had seen improvements in the cats’ BUN (so they feel better) and overall well being. If you don’t want to buy it because you don’t know if Pudge will eat it, I will mail you a couple of packets to try.

We have been using Azodyl for my girl and actually her BUN has decreased, but the IM vet insisted that Porus One was better. Who knows, but I am trying it as soon as she’s gotten over her UTI and possible kidney infection which really took away her appetite (we had been syringe feeding for about a week because she was not eating.) I was waiting until her appetite improved back to what it was before (to start the Porus One.) After 6 days on Veraflox, her appetite and behavior is much improved, but still not as good as before, but it has improved to where she will eat two 3 oz. cans per day with us sprinkling Forti Flora on top when she slows down the eating (she has us very well trained and knows exactly what she’s doing! She sits and stares at us and stares at my hand that is holding the Forti Flora packet. Still waiting for urine culture results.

You are not alone!

Suzanneee i appreciate u a lot.. thanks for always thinking of us.. and me.. ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🩹 your advice is appreciated..

His last HCT is 23.7 range 31-51.. (earlier this month).. will continue the Mirataz.. thats what i heard too right.. it varies so the length between doses is different.. but when i first see not eating as well, going to try to make sure i jump on it..

Yeah.. we were having some.. lately i just try to let it be; if hes able to take the bigger capsules ok.. if not.. 🥲.. but we move on..

tysm for saying…… 💔❤️‍🩹 i appreciate it a lot.. my eyes are better now! haha.. seeing how i feel still tho next few days.. but better. they were hurting lol

i know ❤️‍🩹…… but some is better than none right?.. have found of the little ones 5-6 is an 1/8 tsp.. ideally he should be getting 1/4 tsp/day ALOH right, see what helps?.. (it thickens food i noticed.. maybe os grainy also and he feels it..)

❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥 I so appreciate your keeping us always in your thoughts.. tysm.. thanks for looking out for us!!! I did see this!! idk how he’d take tho to liquid before meals..sigh. i did see it.. if the capsules prove less and less i might have to think of it.. or other things but idk. we take capsules atm.. i try my best to make sure theyre pocketed as well as i can make em..

‼️‼️‼️ Suzanne no joke.. i just asked his vet about activated charcoal and Porous One (has that in it which is what takes out the byproducts, phosphorus too even i think, etc..) just this past Sunday…… i actually had just taken some myself and was looking into all the supplements, therapies, etc ppl use again.. see what I could see, maybe missed…. And realized its charcoal in that one.. and was thinking to try it. Or see if charcoal is ok to maybe use (have yet to hear back…… will see today..) Things like this are what needs to be priority i think.. esp to try to catch it as early as you can……. get a handle on fluids, binders, and things that stop/help the kidneys/symptoms directly…. 🫶🏼.. im glad the vets suggested it to you!!! i was thinking to buy some.. wut u think??.. seems no brainer to me to try it.. wish i had earlier…… but didnt know. its been a lot and theres been research and lots of reading…. think we definitely should try.. tysm for the offer!! i will let u know definitely.. 😍😍

I heard AminAvast has helped some.. Astro’s Oil.. Kidney Gold (which we use.. trying to get up to dose..) and Porous One.. Catney One.. shrug.

(I was looking into things, because kidneys are important… them not regenerating im like…. Let
Me see…😝… and theres a protein that causes the damage associated with injury and kidney disease, and am pretty sure blocking it could be the future of treatments for this.. human and animals. they have found the kidneys completely recover. That they can.. but thats the future.. if nothing interferes and things go properly.. theyre actually doing a cat clinical trial in a clinic upstate.. i was thinking to call and see on it. 🩺..)

Glad your girl is feeling better!!! im sure, if able to take it, it will help.. 🫶🏼💜 lol theyre smart.. glad that appetite is better..

ty Suzannee!! ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥 (glad too you got into UGA to get some opinions/advice.. vet suggested we do that too w the university here.. thinking might. 🤔 ….)

I’m not sure what study is going on near you. Many times they have specific admission requirements like specific creatinine levels to allow you to participate.

Here are some studies ongoing for things to help CKD cats.
  • Hydrolyzed/renal diets testingspecially selected proteins orhydrolyzed protein to improvedigestibility and reduceprogression risk. Cornell University
  • Probiotic trials studying micro biome effects on renal markers and phosphorus metabolism.Michigan State University
  • Oral adsorbent (Porus One) trial aiming to remove gut-derived toxins to improve CKDoutcomes. Texas A&M University
  • Drug trials (sirolimus/Felycin CA-1) targeting aging/fibrosis to slow CKD progression. The Ohio State University
Personally, I am going to just buy the Rapamycin/Sirolimus/Felycin CA-1 stuff from a vet in California. My various vets won’t prescribe it for me, and I can’t wait for the trial to be completed. This medication can prevent kidneys from becoming fibrotic and deteriorate further. I have used it before in my cat with heart disease when the cardiologist refused to prescribe it. Since then it was approved for use in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. But when I asked for an Rx for it in 2024 they wouldn’t prescribe it, so I bought it from the California veterinarian (paying all his consultation fees.) It was approved in 2025. It is legal to buy, and it makes me angry that these vets force me to spend hundreds of dollars more because I have to go through this whole consultation process before buying the actual medication.

The Porus One is being studied at Texas A&M as you can see above.

I am pretty sure that the Probiotic Visbiome is being studied now for its benefits to feline kidneys. I probably will start giving her that as well since it’s just an excellent probiotic.

It’s a lot, though, to give our animals so many things unless they will eat them in their food. That’s why I was hoping the liquid binder might help you. I don’t think he’s getting enough binder because it’s soooo many little capsules. But you are working sooo hard for him!

Are your labs up to date?

Oh, but I really do not know if I will be able to get this Porus One to work because it’s supposed to be given two hours separate from any other medication’s like an antibiotic or like the aluminum hydroxide binder. I don’t see how I can make that work since I pretty much give her binder in everything she eats unless I was to give it in a little low phosphorus churu type thing (like Weruva makes) two hours separate from everything else. Everything just has to be so complicated, doesn’t it?

well what i read was that blocking a certain protein responsible for the scarring and inflammation, interleukin-11, allows the kidneys to recover.. that they regenerate completely.. it would be a cure.. for kidney disease and injury.. specifically anti IL-11 antibody therapy.. because i was curious if the kidneys could come back somehow.. and theres a clinical trial being done somewhere up north for it (cats specifically too..). but kidney problems are big business.. so idk where its going to end up.. 🤡🫶🏼 i hope that is the future.. wish we obviously had some now..

great trials and things to know about!! thanks! ALSO Chewy has that medicine.. do u get it frm there? and u have to go thru some California doctor for a damn script?……. wut a pain!!!!!!! 😖💔

and exactly……. there are sooo many things at this point. i sort of.. triage whats most important in my estimate, tho all beneficial.. esp since it affects appetite and can put them off the food if it tastes weird….... sigh. 🥲 its always like.. add it to food.. like.. if i didnt space things, it’d all jumble together certainly..

nope.. nothings to date. Suzanne.. trying to get things up but im tired and trying to accept im just burnt out.. theres things i need to do and cant find the energy for them. theyre easy but still cant find it.. idk what to do. ☹️ but trying to get them up soon…… think im just resigned and ugh.. 🤡❤️‍🩹…..

yup…… i saw that too. 😅🥲 cause charcoal binds to things it touches, esp medications….. but it carries out toxins like nothing else id say.. i use it myself when feeling not so well digestively for example.. its very good. 😍😌

can you think of maybe a space of time to give it where theres a break in meds?.. we have one.. so im thinking.. probably then.. tho i hear it helps w phosphorus too.. could be wrong tho.. 😪 if im honest, i find some of these kidney therapies just arent reasonable generally…. Like how is it possible to give binder every single time?.. Can only do our best.. 🥲🙃…. 😞❤️‍🩹

(think it’d be ok to also capsule? cause its literally a black powder.. 👀….. nugget aint gonna probably eat that. and im sure charcoal got a bit of a taste.. tho they say tasteless….... 🙄)
