1/29 Bartholomus AMPS 379, +2 370, +4 356, +6 346, +8 385, +10 409, PMPS/+12 425, +10.5 508Curve day

I'm so glad he's feeling better! As they like to say here (and it's so true), cats are so much more than their bg numbers. And, yes, you will definitely get there, and your process will be a great lesson for another caregiver who is struggling to get numbers down. It took Jude a while too.

Well we made it through the curve, increased to 2 last night; everyone was up early 2 hours before shot time so did that last 10.5 read.. higher than his normal preshots. We still have an hour and 10 minutes till shot time, but he has eaten breakfast already..how bad did I mess this up?

You're doing great with him! You're working toward finding that goldilocks' dose that will begin bringing him into some healthier numbers.

As we begin treating with insulin and gathering data, we withhold food 2 hours prior to shot because food can raise the preshot numbers, and we want an accurate measurement of his bg without food/carb manipulation. This becomes especially important when a cat is experiencing lower numbers; the preshot let's us know if a cat is safe to shoot--that the bg is not too low--but if that number is elevated because of food, then we don't have the accurate bg number. With Bartholomus' numbers being higher right now, the food prior to preshot isn't a concern except to note that his preshot number is probably a bit higher because of the food.

Good luck with the increase!!💚💚

Also, rather than add to a previous day's post, we create a separate post daily on the Lantus forum so that our posts don't get too long. We link our previous post in the new one. :)

Thanks for explaining about the food preshot, how it might give a "false" high..that makes sense. I won't worry quite as much now. We ended up doing fine with the shot, he ate a little more (he always eats, lol).

I won't add any more to this thread, just wanted a bit of continuity since it was technically sort of pre- the next cycle 😀
