Oliver continued… +5 bg is 62. Abnormally low for him.

Hi it’s us again…. Looking for a little guidance as Oliver’s numbers are much lower than what we have been seeing.

Possibly because we didn’t get him his mid morning snack. Currently feeding a little regular low carb food and planning to recheck in 20 min. @Suzanne & Darcy

Oh yes. It looks like he’s breaking another bounce. So they can drop lower. At this number just feed a little LC food and retest (as you already are planning to do.)

Will definitely make it a point to make sure he gets his snack especially after running so high the night before!
Yes. It’s best to make sure not to skip the +2 snack regardless of how high the test number you may see at +2 (which is a great test to get because it gives you an indication of how the rest of the cycle will go.) plus 4 is also an important snack.

That’s nice and steady. He still needs some insulin support for his pancreas though. I am very hopeful his pancreas is healing, but 170s are still pretty substantially above the normal BG range for a cat. We need to give a smaller dose for when he’s in these blue numbers.

You can cut his dose in half by drawing the plunger on your U-100 syringe to the .25 mark. If there’s no mark for that you eyeball between the zero line and the half unit line. That would be a 0.1 unit dose. That’s a very nice thing about using the U-100 syringes (the fine dosing.). There are even smaller doses that can be given too.

Oh wow! I didn’t even know we could go that low. We will have to eyeball it as we just have 1/2 unit markings. So .1 if he is in the blue? Or what would that threshold be? And higher than that we will do .2 for now?

I would say if he’s at or above 150 to shoot the .1 units dose for now — until we have some data to tell us how low he goes (or doesn’t go) on that dose.

Checked him at +5 and he is at 508. 😳 was able to check ketones right after and they are negative so that’s reassuring but he wasn’t very interested in his testing treat. Planning to check at 8:00 and do his usual 0.2 pm shot unless advised to do otherwise.

yeah I was surprised to see it that high too! It’s amazing how fast you can move when you see your high cat hit the litter box. Gotta get those ketones! Lol
So .1 tonight it is and we will definitely do at least one check through the night. Should I plan on .1 in the morning too as long as he is above 150?

Umm… I just realized the figures on these don’t match. I was thinking Dr. Elsey’s salmon was super low carb and then I saw the other image that says it is 6.9%. Asked chat got and it says it is more like 8%. If that’s the case that definitely could have driven up his blood sugar. He just stated this food today to graze on in between wet food feedings. 🫣
