3 weeks OTJ -- trying to lower weight need advice!

Hello, it's been a while since I've been here! Corv and I are 3 weeks OTJ and everything is going great. Currently his weight is 13.6 lbs and it's pretty stable around there. We're down to 2.5 cans of fancy feast classic pate/day. 1 can at 9 am, .5 can around 5pm, and 1 can at 9pm. I think he could stand to lose another 2 or so pounds but he acts ravenous already about having gone from 3 cans to 2.5... any tips to make me feel like I'm not starving him when I move down to 2 cans?

You might find this calculator helpful for double-checking how many calories Corv should be getting. Two and a half cans is about what we do for maintenance but Esse's a little lighter.

How gradually are you decreasing what he gets each day?

well when i was feeding 3 cans he wasn’t eating all of it so i cut down to 2.5 overnight about 5 weeks ago! He is a larger framed cat so i should probably double check with my vet to see what his ideal weight is, but cutting down slowly is a good idea!

Totally agree with checking with the vet! They may have suggestions on feeding too. I bet you could even do it over a phone call/email if Corv's seen the vet recently.

Do you have a food scale? They're not expensive and I bet it would make it easier to gradually adjust calories in small amounts.

I'd also check the calories in what you're feeding. There are some low carb foods that are high in calories due to the fat content. Also, if you're not adding water to Corv's food, that may help. He'll feel more "full." He's likely to be hungry over the course of the day, though. Spreading out his food may also help. Rather than feeding an entire can, you could break this into "mini-meals." A timed feeder will make it easier for you so you're not chained to Corv's bowl.
