Just completed the 6th cycle on 1.5 u: I see a tiny improvement with numbers and I also noticed Micio is not drinking and peeing as much in the last couple of days...coincidence?! He also seems more itself and alerted...Ketones Test done yesterday= Negative
Should I increase insulin to 1.75 u tomorrow morning?
When would you recommend to do a curve next?
Thank you in advance.

I corrected my signature, I switched to TR 6 days ago. Not sure what's going on but is getting more lethargic, hope it's not because of the insulin increase...
what should I do, stay at same dose or ...?!
Don't know if this matter or not but Micio still on 0.01ml Budesonide every other day, we're slowly taking him off of it, don't know how to add that to the spreadsheet though...
Been giving CBD oil for arthritis, vet prescribed Gabapentin but Micio does not have a good reaction at all to it.

Your spresdsheet says you are following TR and your signature says SLGS
Please correct either one, are they giving him anything for the arthritis?

Thanks ladies

@Diane , I'm not fully understanding what that post you said is "important to read" means...still having a hard time understanding a lot of things in here but trying to do my best (English is not my main language and still learning)...
I don't know if I'm posting in the correct way in this group, again...my mind can only take so much right now

The only reason I put that is so that a member could read what you said about Micio, tap on it and you will see what I mean
This is what you said
CAN I PLEASE HAVE SOME ADMINS GUIDANCE HERE?! Micio is not doing well and seems to be declining quite fast and his Neuropathy gotten much worse (stumbling and almost walking on his heels), more muscle waste, I don't even think he can see right... Have been giving him 4500 mg B-12 Methylcobalamin per day now and fibers for constipation which gotten much worse (he's on a well balanced raw meat diet for almost 11 yrs, no dry except for freeze dry treats)
You are posting correctly , I'll try and tag he members again
You don't have to add the Budesonide to your spresdsheet
Are you still giving the Gabapentin?

The only thing we ask is that when you post you link the previous days link to the new day
You would go to the top where you see that pic of the cat and above that is your previous days link (your post for that day) copy it , then when you do your new post paste it where you would start to write

I did a search here on the forum about arthritis and found this posted by a member
Adequan is likely a better choice for arthritis than gabapentin. Gabapentin is used for nerve pain. Arthritis is a degenerative joint condition that causes the cartilage in the joint to be worn away. You can also give your cat Cosequin which is an over the counter combination of glucosamine and chondroitin -- but Adequan is better.

Maybe you can ask your vet about it, I think they are injections

Yes I would increase the dose to 1.5 units at the next dose unless he drops into green or blue numbers tonight.
Are you testing for ketones in the urine? If not I would encourage you to go out and buy a bottle of Ketostix from Walmart or a pharmacy and test the urine as per the instructions on the bottle. I would test a couple of times a week while he is not regulated. Anything above a trace needs vet attention.

Also it is possible he has diabetic neuropathy which can be treated with Zobaline (methyl B12) from lifeline.com and you give it each day sprinkled on the food.it is tasteless.
Getting him back in better BG numbers will also help with the neuropathy.

I wonder if one of his other issues is the reason for the decline. His bg is higher than we like to see long term but he should not be declining. Adequan has been used by many for arthritis here with varying degrees of success. He actually could increase tomorrow unless he sees blue tonight.

@Diane Tyler's Mom Tnx for explaining.
No more Gabapentin for Micio, last time the vet wanted him to use it for a cardiologist visit (so he'll stay calm) he spent the next couple of days meowing like a crazy while wondering around the house lost ...not a good training.
Tried Cosequin, not many results; I have been giving him Duralacting but that is for inflammation...I believe Adequan is only injections, I can try to ask the vet for more ( when prescribed in the past I wasn't able to do shots at all but now with insulin I had to learn so I can try giving him Adequan as well).

@Bron and Sheba (GA) I just tested him before midnight and BG were at 344, will test again in the morning and possibly increase to 1.5u.
I have been testing for Ketones every other day, will do again tomorrow (I add the results on my spreadsheet remarks usually, always been Negative so far).
been giving 4500mg of B-12 Methylcobalamin per day, unless Zobaline is much better but I've read it takes some times to kick in anyway...

I’m glad you are testing so often for ketones. Well done.
The Methl B12 does take time to work but getting the BG back down into more normal numbers helps the most. I’m glad you aren’t giving gabapentin… I don’t like it.
Have you looked at adequate for the arthritis?

I can try asking the vet for Adequan, just very hard to reach the Dr. though...since my Mico was diagnosed with diabetes the vet almost "disappear", she's been in-out of the office and never got in touch with me anymore...neither they ever educate me about feline diabetes or teach me how to test BG or give insulin. Tried to look for a different vet but so far nobody is taking new patients, even tried to make an appointment with the internal medicine at no luck.
My question is: if I need to take Micio in for a visit, how do I tell the vet that I've been increasing the insulin without asking her? I'm afraid she'll kick me out ...
How do you guys deal with the vets about this?

You could either just not bring up the dose with her or you could say you can never get hold of her so you have joined a diabetic cat group who have helped you or just say you have educated yourself online about dosing, after learning to test and not being able to get hold of her for advice. She can’t argue with that. Or you could just let her tell you the dose, smile and nod and agree and just go home and continue as before.

Hi the methyl B-12 is fine what you are using, doesn't have to be Zobaline
It will take time to help but like others have said we need to get his BG regulated.
With everyone's advice here Tyler has been in remission since 1-24-21
I started to see a big improvement in about 2 months ,Tyler was back to jumping on the couch, stopped taking rests while walking , He's 100 % better now.
I would see small improvements each week .
I'll show you what a lot of us use ,it's a capsule so just mix it in with his wet food, also tasteless
I hope you can find another vet soon.

Try to do a new post everyday and link the previous days post to it, I explained how to do it above. I hope MICIO starts to feel better :bighug:
Can you tell me your name :cat:
Happy Thanksgiving :cat:

Morning and Happy Thanksgivng too! I did get the Dr's Best B-12 Methylcobalamin 1500mg suggested on the group, I believe is the same thing as the the Vitacost brand. I'm adding a 1500mg cap to 3 of the 4 meals per day (total 4500mg) Doctor's Best Fully Active B12 -- 1500 mcg - 180 Veggie Caps - Vitacost
Micio can still jump a little bit (I have pet stairs all over the house!) but he move in like slow motion all the times and keeps sitting/laying down every few steps. I reported this slowly progressing change to my vet back in June or so many times and the only thing the vet said was "hmmm, I don't know...just keep an eye on it". Looking at his blood test in June his BG suddenly jumped to 298 with remarks from the lab but, when I asked about it, vet said it wasn't important as it could been because of the visit stress... I just got to know my vet is retiring next Spring, meanwhile we're moving by next summer down south somewhere and I'm already worried about finding a vet.
My name is Simone (short for Simonetta) and I'm from Italy but live in the USA since 2003. The MissyKat name I use is from my other female long hair calico cat Missy (13 yrs old) when I first create a FB account, Micio came the year after in 2009 and he was already 5 yrs old.
THANKS AGAIN FOR HELPING ME OUT WITH THIS!

Hi Simone, what a beautiful name Simonetta,
My paisan :p
I'm Italian half Sicilian and my dad's parents were from Venice
Oh how I wish I could speak Italian
Where in Italy were you from
My dream would be to go to Italy
Next time you buy the methyl get the one I suggested more for your money
14.49 for 100 and you will just have to use 1 a day
Maybe you can start doing some research on some vets ahead of time where you are moving to. Just Google Vets in the town you are moving to
Where do you live now
Don't ever say thanks for putting up with you, that's why we are all here to help
We were all overwhelmed in the beginning, it will get better
We just have to get him regulated. I hope you have a nice day , I'm sure you are going to make some delicious Italian dishes ♥:bighug::bighug::bighug:
Give MICIO kisses for me

I'm from Vicenza, about 45 minutes from Venice. I now live just south of Indianapolis, IN.
Tnx for the suggestion, didn't know there was a 5000mg B-12...wil get next time. Wonder if the B-12 will ever work for Micio, he has EPI and not sure if the powder version will get absorbed well... Hoping he'll get some energy back soon

From what I know there is only a powder version of Methyl B-12 ,sorry I wouldn't know about the EPI condition.
Once we can get his BG better regulated hopefully the Methyl will help :cat:
In your pic of your kitties which one is MICIO?
Must be beautiful where you lived in Italy
