08/19 Blaze AMPS 3.8/68

Good morning,
Blaze came out of remission and needs insulin again. We started the insulin back on August 15th.
First vet said to do once a day, morning only, 1 U.
I know that with Lantus, it's best to do twice so, I resumed twice a day, thinking 0.50 should be ok this time around as well. I am still trying to figure our a dose that works...last night after seeing his numbers I gave him 0.75 U but this morning he is at 3.8/Alphatrack (68 Us/mg).
He is eating very well this morning. Still eating.
Considering his AMPS is so low, what should I do for insulin this morning? Skip? Give less?
Thank you,
Paola

Shot is at 6 AM. I will be giving him 0.50 U this morning. I have tested his BG after 30 minutes of eating. BG is now at 8.4/151.
Going to retest at +1.

Hi, Paola. I can't advise on the dosing but I'm glad you are doing the insulin every 12 hours. I'm sorry your Blaze fell out of remission but glad you are back to get some help from these great folks. If you put the "?" in front of your thread title you might get a little more help. I'm Summer and Susie is my fur kitty.

Thanks Summer,
Nice to meet you :)
Yes, I forgot about the "?"...after 1 year, it's all coming back to me slowly.
Yes, twice is the way to go for sure.
Gonna see how he does with 0.5 for a few days...then maybe increase .
Thanks for your reply :)

Hi Paola :bighug::bighug::bighug: Here's your last condo for continuity - https://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/posts/2812049/

Sorry about Blaze but way to be on top of it :bighug: Did anything come of the vet visit (blood work, teeth, etc.)?

That was quite a low AMPS this morning (with a pet meter, right?) - did you double check it by chance? I wouldn't be thinking of increasing yet since you saw a 68 on a pet meter (on TR, the reduction point is going below 68 on a pet meter).

I'm sure @tiffmaxee will stop by when she gets online today :bighug:

Hi!! :)
Nothing came back worrysome from the vet visit, his teeth were perfect and so was the blood work except for the high sugar level.
THank you for attaching the last thread...I am slowly getting back to remembering things for here.
I measured at +2 and +4 and he is going up.
Yes I do have the Alphatrack for him. My plan is to keep the 0.5U twice a day for now. I also want to see how the level is at +6 today.

Hi Paola. I am so sorry to see Blaze is out of remission. At least it happened while you are on summer break. Have you changed vets? That 68 while right above the reduction cutoff shows perhaps it was too high a starting dose since as you might recall it takes 7 days for the depot to build when first starting. After that we can adjust every 6-10 cycles if needed.

It’s good his teeth are good and no other issues. Have you continued to feed the same lc food? I’m hoping fir another quick remission for Blaze.

How is your other cat doing?

I am hoping for that as well. Yes, the initial dose was too high. The vet is the same, the one we like.
I am listening to my gut though because I know Blaze best.
He has beed on the same exact LC Fancy feast pates. No changes in that.
Yes I agree, I am going to see how he does on 0.5 for a bit now. I just did a +6. He is havin a little snack now, he was starving but I didn't want him to eat anything before my +6 test.
Thankfully I am on summer break still. I just hope things work out for the best.
:)
Ash is going great! Still on chemo but doing amazing. Fingers crossed we continue this way.
I have a piano lesson at someones home. Will be back after 12.
