Hello There fellow sugar cat folks. We did our first Curve yesterday (Hope we did it correct). I did AMPS and fed him breakfast and gave insulin injection at 6am. I checked levels at +2 fed a snack (our normal schedule), at +4, at +6 (more snack), +8, +10, and then at +12 for PMPS. I updated his spreadsheet with those numbers and a few I pulled after PMPS to be sure he was safe overnight.
  1. Did I do the curve correct?
  2. How much data do I need to safely determine if I should skip a dose? Twice he's been below 200 at pre-shot testing.
  3. I'm still uncertain what is best for him as far as which method to follow. I don't know why I'm making that so hard but for some reason it seems to be the one thing this newbie is afraid to commit to. (taking into consideration that we may have to board him a few days at Thanksgiving unless something changes he wouldn't be monitored other than pre-shot) I think I'm trying to factor to many things into the decision.

Yes, you did the curve correctly. Since you are seeing blue and even after a skipped dose, I would stay with 1 unit. After a skipped shot the 7 day count starts over with SLGS and so does the 3-5 day with TR. You don’t need to decide right away. Thanksgiving is a long way off when it comes to FD. Most switch to a vacation dose which is lower than the current dose and is decided a few days before vacation. Good job testing.

Hi! Welcome to the Lantus board!!! :bighug:

It took me a bit to go through the previous condos, but thank you so much for linking them! Super helpful information in there :)

Looks like the curve went well! Every 2 hours and you got some pretty blue numbers during your curve and even went to what we call the lagoon (green numbers) with the 93 last night :D I was surprised to see such great numbers after the skipped dose the day before. I would hold the 1 unit for now to see a little more how this dose affects him.

I’m glad you switched over to Lantus recently... looks to be a good move and a more effective insulin for kitties.

For skipping and dosing it really depends on which dosing method you would like to choose. Maybe that is something to try to decide on over the next few days?

Thanksgiving is a ways away for you, I think? Sometimes adjustments need to be made for cat sitters and boarding facilities based on what they can provide in terms of testing and injections. You can always ask a little closer to the time and see what others may recommend :)

How is the pad doing with the steroid by the way? Hope a little better?

Again, welcome!

I was so happy to need to skip a shot but was sort of upset because we were supposed to do the curve but I was thrilled to see the numbers. I really expected it to be higher because of skipping.

For sure the best move

For skipping and dosing it really depends on which dosing method you would like to choose. Maybe that is something to try to decide on over the next few days? I keep overthinking this so I can't make my mind up.

How is the pad doing with the steroid by the way? Hope a little better? His paw looks so much better. The steroids never really did anything for it but push him into diabetes unfortunately but the doxycycline antibiotic is doing awesome.
Thank you for your time and the warm welcome.

Again, welcome!

I didn't know that but I will keep it in mind. Thank you for your time

Hi! It took me a while to realize you replied back inside the quoted message...almost missed it!

For choosing the dosing method, it’s not like if you choose one that you can’t change your mind and do the other instead. That’s ok. You aren’t married to the method forever if it isn’t working for you. Many newbies choose SLGS until they get used to things and then TR later. TR is more aggressive and requires more testing and lower thresholds, but may be more effective for remission.
