We’re back to bouncing. It’s been kind of a rough few days, so I’m sorry that I haven’t been around as much. I’m determined to post more often though because I find myself ruminating more on Moonie’s bad numbers when I’m away from the forum and the support here.

I know it’s silly but when she had flat greens, it was something I could always point to on hard days and say that it was something good I did. And now I feel like I don’t have that as an anchor and it makes me feel a bit like I’m failing her again.

To prevent the fast drops that precede her bounces, we’ve been trying to load her up with roughly 3 tsp of MC before +2 (given to her in small increments every 30 mins). And both Parker and I are on high alert to keep testing and selectively feed around +8-9 if we think she might break a bounce. We’re also looking for some higher carb LC food since right now most of our options are 0-2 percent (we had a 5 percent but I just learned it’s probably too high phosphorus at 1.4% of DMB).

So if you guys have any good higher carb LC options, please let us know! Or anything else that you think could help prevent her bounces.

We would be very grateful. We’re getting desperate and our patience pants are fraying quickly 🤣

Also for anyone who might know - do cats ever stop bouncing naturally over time as they get more accustomed to good numbers? Or is she really not spending enough time right now in the greens for this to happen (implying that we need to figure it out or she’ll bounce forever)?

Here’s a silly Moon Moon photo 🥰

Flat yellows. Hmm. What's in store for tonight Moonie?

Weruva Cats in the Kitchen cans has a couple higher LC options. Neko liked the Lamb Burgini at 8%. She was carb sensitive but at one point she became fussy and it was what she would eat. But it does have fish. Not sure what triggers Moonie's IBD.

Thank you so much, Wendy! I picked up a bunch of 5-8 percent carb options before her evening shot, including that one, so I’m hoping this will help flatten her out. I know a lot of people advise against seafood but it’s the one thing Moonie will reliably gobble up and so far she seems to be tolerating fish well. Beef is another story 😳

And yes! Now flat yellows and blues make me go 😱. We fed her 7% carbs and we’ll be testing at +1 to determine any further MC.

Hopefully she gives us a relatively gentle bounce break tonight! 🤞

Looks like she is coming down at that +2! Hang in there, when I get to feeling down about numbers I like to look back at how Bell was when she was first diagnosed to now. Moonie seems sooooo happy in the pictures you share. Look how far she's come in a couple months

That was a big bounce today! I'm glad to see she appears to be breaking it.

You are doing something good EVERY day for Moonie, and don't think that because her numbers are up or down that you're not. You're doing everything you can for her. She is so fortunate to have two loving caregivers watching over her.

I've observed that some cats will find some consistency (become tightly regulated) over time. Unfortunately, some don't--they just never do for a variety of reasons, some that I don't think we actually understand. And cats seemingly change over time with their insulin needs. They can be regulated and then not, again for reasons we understand and some we don't. Look at Jude's ss. He's had periods where he's consistent and the picture of TR, and then *poof* we have days like today where he suddenly spikes into the stinkies. I will say that overtime, I have come to accept this, and I don't marry my emotional well-being to Jude's bg numbers, and that has made me a lot happier.

Go back to the top of Moonie's spreadsheet and scan down. Look how good she's gotten over time. I'm not sure what's happening today with those yellows, but, as I said, it looks like she's breaking that bounce, so let's hope she does and dips those paws back into some greens soon.

Thank you both for your very kind words! It actually made me feel so much better doing as you suggested. I kept comparing her current patterns to the flat greens before, but I would have killed to have numbers like this even two months ago. And going through Bell and Jude’s SS was a great reminder that healthy happy and well regulated kitties can still have periods where they bounce. I always try to tell myself that life is not linear and that change is constant, but I have a hard time accepting it at times.

Thank you again for your encouragement! We’ll keep trying and hopefully one day she’ll flatten out. And even if she doesn’t, we’ll keep doing our best to give her the best life we can.

Thank you so much for your recommendation! I have no idea what is in that Lamb Burgini but Moonie went absolutely feral for it. When I first opened it, I was a little worried because it was a pate texture but it was clearly not an issue as I’ve never seen Moonie eat so much.

Did you ever find that feeding this higher carb LC increased Neko’s insulin needs? Moonie is carb sensitive and while I’m thrilled that feeding her 8% finally stopped her bouncing, I’m a bit worried that it’s flattened her out at a higher level. We used to see nadirs in the 50-70s pretty consistently, and so far, it looks more like 80-90. Maybe we just need to give it more time (or blend to get it down to 5-6 percent carbs?), but normally I think if I saw this, I’d assume that we’re due for a dose increase.

Thank you again!
