9/30 Smudge: AMPS 78, +2 62, +4 62, +5.5 66, PMPS 111, +2.5 66

3U seems to be perfect in every way except not quite enough duration with him just barely slipping up into the blues at PMPS.

I wonder if a LC snack at +9 would help. It sounds counter-intuitive but with some cats it wakes the pancreas up a wee bit and actually brings the PMPS down.

Someone mentioned that to me the other day in one of my threads (my apologies, my head cold head is not recalling for now). I do leave him a little LC out around +8 (and always for overnight), but it's hit or miss if he bothers with it. I'll try to trick him into eating some today with some playtime or a nap wakeup.

We only suggest a +8-+9 LC snack when a kitty is on very tiny doses, think under 0.25 units, and clearly with a sputtering pancreas. Any snack after nadir on higher doses is more likely to shorten the insulin duration, and give you higher preshots. That might explain the blue PMPS. After nadir, the insulin effect is starting to slow down. Jill once gave me the analogy of a car slowing down towards a stop sign with the foot off the gas. If you give carbs at this point (put your foot on the brakes), you come to a stop before that stop sign. With a recently DKA cat, we do encourage multiple small meals, so giving one after nadir may make sense to make sure he's getting enough calories. Try to make sure any snack after nadir has as low carbs as possible.

Thanks for the detailed explanation Wendy. I was grasping at straws for sure

also...wow look at that AMPS, you can set your watch to it at this point!
