7/10 Jessi PMPS 345 +1 340 +3 230 +4 274 +5 239, I guess it's a bounce

Those were some peekaboo gr:D:Dns today.

Glad that Jessi didn’t make you work today. Or did she ?:p

We want more blues for Stefania! And some greens for us :p

Peekaboo greens, I like that! Or do I?... does that mean it’s a kind of foreshadowing of more to come...? :nailbiting:

Actually, I’m much better about the low numbers these days, but right now I don’t want her bouncing like a yo-yo for her sake more than mine. It’s too tough on her system, you know? Ok, to some extent mine too :p

Question for anyone who reads this: I just increased the dose without Vet advising. This always raises the problem of whether to tell them or not. On the Logbook, I'm supposed to enter the units as well as shot and meal times, and meal quantities. For a while, I stopped entering the dose because I was hiding that I had drastically reduced from their instructions. Recently, I managed to get away with telling them I had reduced because I was nervous while I didn't have the sensor to monitor. Fortunately, the BGs were good enough and she even said so, so when she asked how much I was giving and I told her .75, she had no choice but to accept it and tell me to keep the dose. That was down from 2 and 1units, AM/PM. It did get me a slight reprimand and a warning that I shouldn't change the dose on my own anymore. To which I sheepishly replied, yeah, yeah. :p

So now that I have changed the dose, what do you think I should do?

For the moment, these are people I have to keep working with for the sensor and the SCC until I become independent with the former and the latter is completely cured.

I can't piss them off too much, but I also won't be bound by their insane instructions and I can't wait for them to get back to me every time I want to change dose.

So.... tell or don't tell. Lie in the Logbook or put the dose that I am actually giving? I'm inclined to leave it as .75 since it's so close to 1u anyway and it's very possible we'll be going back to that soon. If/when it comes time for surgery, it would be fine for them to give her .75 since they will probably dose higher as they won't be micro-dosing. Or maybe when they do it via IV they can be precise like that, I don't know.

It's crazy how inaccurate the uppermost guideline is on the syringes I use. I use calipers so I can see the difference much better, although I could see it when I was eye balling it too. People who don't know this, which is most people and vets are inevitably giving ridiculously variable doses to their animals. Twice I tried to show this once to a vet, the second time to the Endocrinologist vet who is supposed to be some kind of genius. In both cases they either stared at me with a blank look or dismissed it as unimportant and almost a waste of time. The arrogance of some of these people makes me furious! :banghead::mad:

Ok, I'm done venting now.

Let me know what you think about this.

Yes, you do :p

You’re right, and you’ll slowly get used to longer stretches of blues, and greens too, once you learn to manage them without panicking and running for the MC/HC foods at the first sight of a green BG :D

When I first (and all other times TBH :p) saw a lime, I was rushing for the honey and my mom was like WTH, if it’s like this why give insulin at all and I was so pissed at her. But on we went with the insulin.

About the bounces, I’ve read it so many times now, that it’s now stuck in my head - Bounces, while annoying, do let you know that your kitty's liver is working. And while they probably don't make our kitties feel all that great, they are not dangerous. As you kitty spends longer periods of time in normal numbers, the bouncing should slow down or stop.

I think this should be your go-to strategy - blame it on your nervousness :p

But in all seriousness, it’s better to be honest in the logbook. You don’t want them basing their dosing decisions on incorrect values (even if it’s a 0.25U difference - sometimes that also is too much for some cats) while Jessi’s in their care.
They might see a 0.75U in the logbook, and decide to give a slightly higher dose to manage Jessi’s high numbers, which could be temporarily inflated due to stress at the clinic or a bounce, but the high dose might not be really necessary and take her too low.
As you can see I have an over active imagination, but I feel you can be honest and take the flak. As you’ve experienced, some vets are dismissive and may not listen to you describe the right dose to them in person and may instead refer to the logbook with wrong values.
TLDR: Don’t lie :D but that’s just my opinion.

Tell me about it. I only started noticing it when I had to dose under 0.5U so I don’t know how inconsistent I had been before that :banghead: I’ve kept aside more than 20% of the syringes because of where the zero line is.

I did the same but once I started using digital calipers it didn’t matter. It’s a tough call on the dosing. You can do the nod and ok approach but continue as is I guess. Just let them scold you. It doesn’t much matter what they say if you just follow our method when it comes to fd. You need them for the rest though.

Can bounces cause loss of appetite? She ate only one of the 2 cans of LC she usually eats across 6 hours. I will offer more and see if she wants to eat before it gets to be too late.

So are you also saying, like Nimi that you think I should tell them what dose I'm giving?

If I just write it into the Logbook without writing them personally and asking permission, it could really bother them. A lot of doctors are quite protective of their authority in my experience and see you as a threat when you in any way challenge that authority. Even just asking to change the dose, not waiting for them to say so, can be seen as kind of presumption, an indication that I don't trust them to lead the treatment properly. It's really up to them how they see it in the end. I'm only concerned because I have to depend on them for super important things, not as much because I care what they think or feel, although it does bother me to be treated in certain ways. The most important thing is Jessi's care.

If I leave the dose as .75 while dosing 1 unit, if/when it comes time for surgery and she is under their care for a couple of days, if anything it would be safer than if I put in the 1u. There would be more margin for their usual tendency to overdose. I have that in mind while I am deciding if to tell or not.

I am super aware of how every little drop counts and can be the tipping point for either too high or too low. That's why I take so long dosing. ;)

Yes, you do :p

I hear you, I hardly ever even break out the HC now. :p
