So internet has been out today so I updated the ss on my phone and typing this on my phone. Things have been good since my last post. Henry even jumped off the back porch and caught a mouse. The mouse appeared to already be gravely injured or dead because that thing was huge - no way henry killed it. He did proudly carry it around and didn't want to give it up but I finally got him to trade it for a can of duck patte.

BG has been sky high since AMPS and the R does pretty much nothing. Once his BG gets so high he gets lethargic and stops eating. I gave him a whole unit of R at AMPS +9 and it only brought down BG 20 points :banghead:. I don't know whether to give him some subQ fluids tonight or just wait til morning since last time this happened he still had ketones 4+ the next morning even with the fluids the night before. I've been diligently feeding him every 2 hours or so, but he stopped eating around AMPS +7 maybe I should try to syringe feed him? I did get him to eat a bit of human chicken...

I'm glad the ketones came down , I hope he starts eating again for you soon so you won't have to syringe feed him, I'm sure the more experienced members will be on soon to give you some advice .That's too funny about the mouse and Henry proudly carrying it around.
I just hope you can get out of those red numbers soon :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Here is your previous post :cat:

That's very frustrating. Wendy makes a very good point about the R sometimes keeping things from getting worse. Problem is we don't know what would have happened without the R so we have nothing to compare that to. I know. Sometimes I got a great R response, and sometimes little to none that I could quantify (but again, maybe it was holding things in check). Anyway, I sympathize with your frustrations.

Likewise with fluids. I did not always see a direct correlation with giving fluids and ketones coming down (I hate to even tell people that) -- sometimes I did. So many factors at play here. But I kept giving fluids anyway (most of the time) when his ketones were high. I hoped they were doing other good things (and I know they were, but I like to SEE results that I can measure.)

As for today, I like seeing the ketones at .5 that's good. Unless I had another compelling reason to not give the fluids, my thoughts would be to give them to "keep a good thing going" (hopefully.)

Hopefully this RED streak is going to change color soon.
