So I've been having a hard time with the ear pokes lately. I'm not sure if it's because he has more energy, but I think it's more likely he thinks he's going to get food as soon as I try to do the poke, so he wants to get down and get some food. Compounding the problem he's not bleeding as well as he has in the past. No idea why... I warm the ears up well and I'm poking the same spots I always have been, same technique, but I just can't "milk" enough out. I've wasted 2 ketones strips today due to not having enough blood. So most of the readings beside AMPS and PMPS are from the libre which always runs higher than the nova. I'm glad the .25u dose of R this morning knocked the BG down a good bit, but not too much.

I'm going to pick up his B12 shots shortly...

Just took PMPS and was thrilled to see that Ketones are down to .2! He cleared those quick, despite being in the pink for the majority of the last 3 days. Maybe it's just placebo and wishful thinking on my part but I can't help but wonder if these plant enzymes might be just a little bit responsible for getting a few extra nutrients into his system. I get that they're not sufficient for treating EPI, but I've seen a positive change in temperament, energy levels and ketone production in the last 24 hours. We had a critter making noises and squeaks under our house last night and Henry went into full on hunter mode. The most active I've seen him in a good long while.

Oh, and don't forget that, if you can pill Henry, you can put the pancreatic enzymes into a gelatin capsule. You will just have to figure out the size.

I've read that. I got a good technique in getting him pilled, but I've seen some places say it need to be incubated in food for 20 minutes first and other places say that's not necessary. I've also heard the enzymes can injure this mouth/esophagus if they're not fully dissolved in food, I wonder if a pill could do the same thing to his stomach? I hope he won't mind the taste of it mixed with the food. I saw one person say they would prepare a syringe with a concentrated enzyme/food/water mixture and keep it in the fridge so they could syringe feed them a measured dose of the not-so-tasty enzymes right before they got their regular food (sans enzymes) and her cat wouldn't fight getting the mixture because she knew that her dinner was coming right after. The person also said doing it this way helps remove the taste of the enzymes from kitty's mouth and get rid of any possible enzyme residue in her mouth to avoid mouth injuries.

I just read on enzymediane.com (where I bought the enzymes I'm waiting for) that in an emergency situation there are half a dozen different brands of porcine pancreatic enzymes available at places like the vitamin shoppe and possibly walmart that can be crushed and added to the food. I'm going to see if I can't find some locally to tide me over til Wednesday.

I've read about people preparing the enzymes with food and load into a syringe too... my Micio doesn't mind eating it directly with the rest of his food, I would try that first and if it doesn't work than go with plan B or whatever will work best for your cat. Also, you can try sprinkling some Fortiflora on top of it, the flavor is strong enough it may masks some of the enzymes taste.

I haven't seen today's post yet, but just wanted to say how pleased I am with that ketones number and the fact that you haven't had to give R for two cycles in a row.
