Butters & Lyla

Member Since 2020
Yesterday overnight butters peed and she pooped for good measure, though was more like diarrhea.
No issues with the peeing and no signs of blood. I would call her GP clinic if there was.

She otherwise spent the entire night trying to bust into her autofeeder to get at the Fancy Feast:rolleyes:. She had never done that before. She started pushing her face underneath the autofeeder to try to overturn it, and kept smacking her paw on the lid. I was worried she would push it off the bed so I moved it to the floor. She jumped off the bed, stuck her paw in the open compartment and began dragging it around, rattling it and banging it into the wall. She is currently laying next to her empty plate staring daggers at me.

To update on a couple of things from yesterday:
The ER vet who was on last night told me she saw the tech hand Butters over to the IM vet early that morning, but she also said she saw the images and his report pop up in her file right when he was done so she seemed to think there was 100% no possible way that a mix up could have occurred. There is still always a chance, I suppose, but it just seems slim at this point. And it was well worth looking into so thank you for the thoughts on that!

Her usual GP vet isn't in clinic until Wednesday, so not much I can do about figuring out a plan and next steps until then. The vet who saw Butters in his absence told me she would follow up with me on Monday, so if she in fact does call then I'll ask for her thoughts on what has gone on. She happens to have a consult booked for her cat with the same IM vet who did the second ultrasound! I feel that means there is a connection there and she will want this resolved, but who knows. So for now I'll wait and see if she calls.
Surf safely, kitties:cat:

Have a good day, all.

You and Butters are in my thoughts, Lyla. I would be as confused as you were and sure hope it all clear up soon (and if Butters got those fantastic U/S results - whoohoooooo!!) Her AMBG today is looking fabulous!! :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Yay for pee and poop. I'm glad Butters is wanting to eat. I hope she doesn't break the autofeeder. I hope you get some answers soon. Sending prayers. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Lyla, that is so funny what Butter's did with the auto feeder,
I'm happy that she's eating . I hope you can get to the bottom of what's going on with the ultrasound ♥:bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Lyla, thanks for giving me a laugh picturing Butters and the auto feeder. How I wish I could get Dolly on board with it. I have purchased four of them and returned three. Dolly is just not an inquisitive kitty and therefore shows no interest in the food or treats I’ve put in it. She also goes to bed and pretty much stays wherever she sleeps until about 4am. I usually get up and feed her or put food out for her between 1 and 4am. I would love to figure out how to change this.

So happy to hear she is eating, peeing and pooping. Maybe the loose stools are from the gravy, food she is just not used to. It does not seem to be affecting her numbers. I hope they can figure out the conflicting ultrasound results.

Wishing you all a good day. Hope you get that phone call.

Yay for eating, peeing and pooping! Lol on the auto feeder . What tenacity! :p Wanting to eat like that seems a good thing! And that BG o_O! Woot!

Hugs Lyla :bighug: I mean, Butters, this is all just one way to get yourself some fancy feast  maybe less drama? Sending lots of love and healing light :bighug::bighug::bighug:

That reminds me of what @JaxBenji told us that her boy used to do with the auto feeder.
You must be confusing him with another cat. Jax never attempted to break into his auto feeder though he was well aware of the noise of it rotating and always woke up for snacks :woot: I am sure though he is very proud of Butters for her attempts as Lyla used to have to wake her up to eat her snacks :p

Wait, is this the same Butters who had all the mouth problems?? Looks like those are well and truly resolved if she is now using her mouth like a bulldozer! I'm with you on the frustration on not having answers but seems that Butters definitely needs that consult with the psychiatrist - oops no, neurologist :joyful::woot:. It's as if she's saying - Ma, what's wrong with you. Just gimme snacks. Stop fussing. :bighug: Looking forward to more updates and answers.

I thought he was the one who tried to break into the auto feeder! I must be thinking of another cat.

Right?! All of this drama is clearly just to about scoring some gravy:rolleyes:.:bighug:

See Susanne's quote....:

So I feel your pain, Adrienne:bighug:. I had alarms set to wake up with the autofeeder timers and would wake up butters, who was fast asleep and snoring about two feet away from it:rolleyes:.

Susanne, I agree that Jax would be very proud of Butters for trying to break into the feeder and for earning a playing "P" while doing it!:woot::bighug:

Great! I'll take loose stools over constipation any day of the week!

I think nothing is off the table with Butters:cat:.

The vet she saw on Thurs & Fri did call to check on Butters and ask how things went at the ER. I really like her. She hadn't received the records or ultrasound report yet. So I went through my notes of what the ER vets had told me. She seemed to agree that something needs to be sorted out. I asked if she and Butters's primary vet could review everything together and figure out where we go from here for Butters, and she agreed. Butters certainly didn't miraculously get cured in the 30 hours between the two ultrasounds.

Butters is doing okay. Not as bright as she was overnight and this morning. She didn't want to eat Fancy Feast anymore so I gave her a little Performatrin ultra chicken stew and she enjoyed that.

I LOL'd at Butters's attempt at breaking into the feeder. Ruby is loving our new nightly routine with the autofeeder. I hear it pop open at 5 AM and a few seconds later followed by the sound of wild galloping towards it.

We should all get degrees or at least certificates of recognition for the amount of management required to take care of our kitties. You definitely deserve one! Glad to hear that she's eating, pooping, and peeing, and hope that she brightens up again soon. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Well sounds like Butters is just wanting attention to me. My 1st diabetic Smokey always tried to push the dial to help feeder open, when it didn't he would give it a swat. Then sit in front of it waiting for it to open. He was a foodie. Olive had the chip feeder, no training needed for her, she got the hang of it immediately. The tag was always dirty from the food.

Have you tried freezing the food and put it out? Then it will be thawed when it's time and get a bit more water into her.

Give Butter's kisses for me ♥:bighug::bighug:

Thanks for the idea. It will work if it’s not too cold, she can’t smell much due to sinus issues and won’t eat cold food. I could try it. She also gets FortiFlora on her food, don’t know if that would work on frozen, yes, she is spoiled and finicky :p
