? Ti-Mousse LIME (23) today - skip or half shot tonight ? advices please!

Ti-Mousse is on 8.5u and was LIME this morning with a little hard time to bring him back to GREEN today! Tomorrow he'll have his reducie from 8.5 to 8u.

1) Tonight, should I skip dose (which I was planning to do to empty the depot a little) OR should I give half a dose?

2) How do I handle this 8.5u dose?
It's the second time he goes on it and the second time he has problem with it!
The first time on 8.5u was in August and he was LIME all the way right from the beginning! We went back up slowly and we're again on that dose after 2 months and it's LIME again on it ! .... At least this time it took him many cycles to drop ! He doesn't seem to like it.
Anything I can do to go through it safely?

Thanks for your advices !

I don't know Lyane, even with a half or a skip tonight, you'll still need to monitor, that depot is really full. I don't like seeing that you had a hard time keeping him up above 50 today, hope Ti stays safe tonight. As you know, I'm not experienced with high dose, so I'm hesitant to make any suggestions :bighug:.

Thanks for being there, hope everything is fine for you.

I want to do a bit of a recap.

When you tested and got the 43 at AMPS, you did the right thing by stalling. However, the 50 at re-test is essentially the same as a 43. (Remember, there's a 20% variance due to the meter so the 43 and 50 are pretty much the same number.) You might have wanted to wait a bit longer and tested again to make sure numbers were rising. I suspect that insulin onset is what drove the numbers back down.

At this point, it's hard to know if you'll see a bounce. Given the last time your kitty was in the 30s, you didn't see a bounce it's hard to predict what Ti is planning. I really think it's your call. I'd see what's up at PMPS.

Have you considered getting Ti tested for insulin resistance or any other high dose condition? These kind of drops may be a bit of resistance breaking. I'm tagging @Sandy and Black Kitty and @Wendy&Neko to take a look.

Thanks, I'll know for next time; I thought as long as he was going up to 50 without food, he was OK!! Will remember the 20% variance...

I'd see what's up at PMPS.
We've past PMPS, he went up from 67 to 135 in 2 hours!

I did, but the vet who diagnosed Ti-Mousse doesn't want to treat him anymore since I sent her a copy of Romp&Rand Study (she was treating with Caninsulin) and all what the Forum was doing... Unfortunately, she didn't like it! So the Forum is my vet since then, until I realised Ti-Mousse needed higher doses and Wendy suggested to have him tested. I'm in a rural region so not much choice for vets; I definetely will have him tested! I have an appointment with another new vet for my little 17yo girl CKD stade 3.. hope this one will be open to send Ti-Mousse's tests for Acro and IAA to the States!

Thanks so much for your help and your time; so much appreciated!:bighug: :bighug:Tonight will be "no shot" which was scheduled a little over an hour ago, it's gonna be safer for him! :)

@Ti-Mousse Lyane, that +11 is much better, have you taken a PMPS yet?

And a wee bump up...maybe @Marje and Gracie can have a peek?
I'm not shooting tonight, he'll be safer that way! I'm afraid the huge depot starts running the cycle and makes a mess...! He's had a good supper and is sound asleep!
Always so nice to see you around! Hope your lovely Phoenix has recovered completely from his surgery! :bighug::bighug:

Aww, thanks Lyane. I hope you have an uneventful night...so nice of you to remember about Phoenix, we had a set back unfortunately, his right eye developed retinal degeneration. He is blind in his right eye now, but has perfectly good vision in his left...maybe I should get him an eye patch like Bubba has @Bobbie And Bubba :p. I joke...I was devastated of course, but the pup adjusted quickly, and he doesn't feel any sadness about it I'm sure, he can still chase the civvie around the house just fine ;)

It's ok as long as he's healthy, happy and chasing :p
One of my civie Pepe is being monitored by an ophtalmo for cancer of the eye and this is what he told me: apparently they adjust very easily with one eye!
I'll have to start thinking of eye patch maybe... :woot:

Oh my goodness, how scary! I'm so glad you decided to skip the shot tonight. I don't think it would hurt at all to let the depot drain. I know Lou had some days where his depot was overfull and skipping was the only option. Some days he didn't even miss a beat afterwards. I hope Ti-Mousse does better on the 8u for you. :bighug:

Lyane

Since you skipped, you can move your shot time if you wish to. Also if you test at +10 or +11 and he’s high, you can shoot early as long as you don’t mind being early.

The philosophy behind shooting early if numbers are high (think over 300) is “why let him keep going up?”. You can get back to your later shot time 1/2 hour a day.

Up to you but just a suggestion.

Aww! Tomorrow is 4 years since Bubba’s right eye was removed because of cancer. It was a difficult decision , but glad I did.

It sounds like Phoenix still has his eye , but blind? I am so sorry, but the other eye compensates and they have 60 % of their vision. Bubba still hunts outside!
