I lost my sweet old man on Monday afternoon, April 23rd. He had one of his sudden drops the evening of Sunday, April 15th and took a bad turn on Monday, 4/16. He spent 2 nights in the ER on iv fluids and an all day stay at regular vets for continued iv fluids, then when I was able to bring him home, he had to go back to the vet's twice and would have a good day, then a really bad day. He had suddenly become mildly anemic also and was very wobbly and weak. I made the decision that morning on 4/23 because he told me that it was time.
His exact age was unknown as in his previous life as a barn cat for my best friends, they acquired him in early 2001 and he was very much an adult cat then so he was probably older than the 18 years we estimated him to be. Shoes converted me from strictly a dog person to a cat person. He was such a loving boy with a very talkative personality that even the hardest heart fell for him! I miss him terribly but am happy that he is not suffering anymore. His first momma, my best friend, was with us at the end. It was very very peaceful and totally painless for him.
Thanks to all for the friendship and knowledge freely given. I will have some AT2 test strips to sell later but plan to donate most everything else to DCIN.
