Oh Lizzie, it is draining to coax them to eat!

I just caught up on your vet visit! Wow!! She sounds wonderful and the price was unbelievably low too! I am so glad you found her. It sounds like you will be getting a handle on the non diabetic things. It all sounds so hopeful.

Meantime: A message from Bubba

Yo dude, got to eat the fuds so momma stay happy, cuz when momma' s not happy, no bodies iz......

I need help on syringes. For the Epogen they are stating that I need these syringes:
0.3 cc, 29 gauge, 1/2" (to be used with U-100 insulin only)

These are what I use for Lantus:
31G 3/10cc 5/16" w/Half Unit Marks

I will admit that I do not understand all the measurements in the description. Will what I have (and am using for Lantus) work for the dosing for the Epogen or do I need to purchase the different ones? I have emailed the vet office back asking the same question but have not received a reply yet.

Those are pretty much the same syringes with a longer and slightly larger needle. They probably suggested those because the stopper on the vial might be a little more rigid than what is on insulin and your 31 gauge needles might bend or break trying to puncture it? That’s the only thing I can think of. It’s the same volume as the syringes you use.

Glad you are going to use epogen. But be very careful, because the standard most vets use is too much too quickly, and that can cause a stroke. The group I've used when treating my cats with Chronic renal failure (CRF - the old name for CKD) is completely reliable, and you should check in with them:
https://beta.groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/Feline-CRF-Support/info

I know it is a pain to join another group, but given the extensive misinformation about how to use Epogen, you really ought to. Perhaps your vet is up to speed on epogen, but perhaps not.

Thank you. I do not have the dosing yet. She (the tech) rattled it off last night when she called and when I said "let me get pen/paper" she said she would just email. She did email but only the info for ordering it and then they will authorize and give the rx details. I am hoping I have it tomorrow. I ordered 4 viles to save on shipping (overnight with ice). I know it is to be given 3x/week but don't know the actual dosage yet. I will post with dosing info before I give for input from anyone who has given it previously.

Good.
I was not able to get iinto the yahoo group for CRF, so I signed in with:
http://www.felinecrf.org

It was 6 years ago that I last used epogen, so I do not remember the stats. But this group will know, and it's much easier to join.
The CRF group required that I copy some figures to prove I am not a robot - I tried them about 9 times and failed each time. When I clicked the "help" button, I was sent to a page that said "this website does not exist". Go figger.

Great you found a new vet. My vet has said the epogen word a few times, but Yum isn't there yet. Good luck. I will watch your progress with that.

Really hoping I see improvement with his lethargy and appy and overall QOL. Kinda nervous about starting it but he really needs it. :nailbiting:

You know, Gizmo looks pretty happy in that sunny spot. I've been looking at that picture lately and wondering if Yum is almost too lethargic to notice a sunny spot.
