He as eaten maybe 80% of his food this morning. Constant fight. Much coaxing and toppings. I will reply to yesterday's posts a bit later. I am not feeling well and need to wake up a bit more.

I am going to free feeding and am going to try Royal Recovery or A/D - any opinions on which he might like better?

:bighug: Nice start so far. 80% is great, but sorry it is taking so much work on your part. No experience with either food.

I am so sorry that you have so much going on with Gizmo. :bighug:

We don't have any experience with either of those foods. I'm sure someone will weigh on.

Hope you feel better. All the stress from your vet visit surely didn't help. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hope you get some rest, Lizzie, and with more appy and feel better vines for Gizmo.

Re the a/d and or the RC recovery: the Recovery seemed to inspire appy with Azalea during feeling ucky Times. Idk if the more smooth moist texture or something, ingredients-wise, about how it smells or what she felt she needed, but it seemed to suit her more than the a/d. One time I put a little of each on a dish and she went for the recovery. That pretty much sealed the deal re her own statement of preference at the time.

I’ve also found that blending recovery, a jar of beechnut baby food meat (whatever appeals), water and some plain pumpkin (and wherever supplements) makes a nicely textured almost “fluffy” slurry for assist feeding or as a moisture-laden food for eating on own.

    But as always, ECID.
More feeel better vines for you all from the tribe here❤️

    @Stacy & Asia
Can you post which binder you are using? Did you discuss with vet or did you just start it on your own? I am heading put shortly to try and find some niacinimide and want to see if I can find the binder also.

It's aluminum hydroxide powder, I know they sell it on thriving pets and the like, but I got it from my vet, and my vet suggested it to me. Doesn't seem to have much of a taste and it was easy enough to mix in, numbers came down a little in 3 weeks and then a good bit more a couple weeks or so after that.

I want to switch back to Mirtz. The cypro is just too much for him. The last cypro was at 5:30a this morning. Vet told me that I couldn't give them within 3 days of each other - is that true? How soon can I give the Mirtz?

Lizzie, idk enough about either mirtz or cypro. Tried mirtz once with Sootie (1/2 of a 1/2 dose) and she was on a three-day bender with Bella and Dancer joining in, though less frenzied, bc they nibbled in her laced food behind my back. Sootie gained 1/2 pound weight that weekend and we all were exhausted especially Sootie.

I am hoping they have blood they can send in for this. I really cannot subject him to another visit - at least not until he has more strength. Is that something send into the lab or A&M?

I cannot get potassium into him. He simply will not eat food with it in it and the chews are hit/mis if he will eat the food with it in it (or even by itself). I have been trying to get potassium into him for over a year.

I did not defer - they did. I will call tomorrow and see if they will give me the RX for Amlodipine and if they will - pick it up tomorrow after work. I am hoping they will simply call in the rx to the pharmacy so I don't have to spend 1 1/2 hours up there and back during rush hour. Probably they will NOT because that would just make it easy on me.

There are some scary side affects to that drug. Again, I will request that they give me an RX - again, I highly doubt it but I will try.

I went looking for this at the local CVS/Walgreens and grocery store - no luck. The closest health food store (GNC) is about 35 miles away and I have no way of knowing if they have it. I ordered it from Amazon today.

Gave him 1/4 this morning - just doped him up and didn't do much for his appy. I want to go back to the Mirtz. I need to know how long I have to wait since I have him Cypro this morning (@5:30a).

Again, I will call the vets tomorrow and try and get them to give me the RX and get him started on it tomorrow.

With much struggle hubby and I got him to eat about 80% of his food this morning. He did eat a couple of tablespoons of the A/D, so feel pretty good about the amount of calories he got this morning.

I went and got a small food processor/chopper and put Tiki Chicken and A/D in there together and mixed it up real well. It looks like soupy pate. I am planning on feeding it tonight and lacing with sprinkles in the hopes that it will get him to eat. He isn't like the texture of shreds right now and that is ok, I can work around that and he usually really likes the Tiki food.

I may have missed it, I couldn't see what potassium supplement you were trying, but years ago, I used liquid Thera-K ..I had to squirt the dose in my kitty's mouth...is that possible to do with Gizmo?

Got a link? Does it have sugar? He simply will not eat it. Period. The chews were my best success and I have discontinued those trying to get him to eat. I don't think they agree with his tummy.

I dug out the old bottle from the back of my cupboard, I knew I kept it for a reason (it's 10 years old :p). It's from Rx Vitamins, got it from the vet. The label says "Thera-K potassium gluconate supplement", non-medicinal ingredients: water, natural flavour.

    Each 2ml contains Potassium (gluconate)-468mg

Now the tricky part...that word "gluconate" I'd ask your vet if that involves sugar, as my high school chemistry is very rusty!

I tried to look it up on Tanya's CRF site, it isn't listed there, I sure hope the brand I had hasn't been discontinued, it was 10 years ago after all :(. I'm in Canada, so I also wonder if the vets have different supply sources here?

Here is the link anyway for potassium supplements from Tanya's CRF, might give you some additional options:

Lizzie did you see Marje's post on your thread yesterday. I believe she said to give a sliver of the cypro as the vets tend to overdose.

Yes. Gave 1/4 this a.m. and still doped him up and doing nothing to increase appy. I want to go back to Mirtz it works better on him and he isn't drugged on it. A bit vocal but not like he is on cypro.

That one looks very interesting...I like that it has additional amino acids and those multi- B vitamins can't hurt either! The amount of B vitamin may not be enough to directly deal with Gizmo's current anemia, but for the potassium deficiency, it sure seems promising to me.

I ordered it. He ate about 2/3 of his PS food. Hubby got him to eat 3/4 of one of the potassium chews. Better than nothing. Not giving cypro tonight.

Maybe adding liver shake among food offerings could help to supplement a number of nutrients.

    I’d start with spirulina.
I get mine from local health food store or from my homeopathic vet who gets some of his herbs from mountain rose herbs. Be sure it’s certified organic in powder or capsule form (I find the powder easier).

Here’s link to mountain rose herbs (they offer in powder and capsule, both are certified organic)

    https://www.mountainroseherbs.com/products/spirulina-powder/profile

    https://www.mountainroseherbs.com/products/spirulina-capsules/profile

And here’s a link to an organic one (there are a few) listed in amazon. I’ve not tried this brand or any of the brands listed.

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B073QDM8XG/ref=mp_s_a_1_9_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1517791520&sr=8-9&keywords=organic spirulina

Tagging @Bobbie And Bubba for spirulina source and or liver shake suggestions bc she made liver shake for Bubba during a bout of illness awhile back.

ETA: if you want to forego the raw egg yolk bc of its phos content, try blending in plain egg white powder or cooked egg white, the egg white being low phos.

I am not familiar with spirulina, but I did make a liver shake for Bubba when he had his last GI upset and refused to eat. I had to syringe feed him and fortunately the next day he was eating. Lizzie do you need the recipe ?

eta : I see that Sina gave it to you.

I waited 3 days from the mirtz to switch to the cypro and waited 24 hours to go back the other way.

Jones does well on 1/4 tab in the evening of the cypro.

Please just remember that I am making suggestions but all of this should be coordinated with the vet so you have an appropriate treatment plan, considering all things, instead of just shooting in the dark without coordinate treatment.

    Many vines......

I am so sorry Gizmo is giving you such a hard time.
Yum is on phosphorus binders. No matter the dose, they could not with the high phosphorus content of Fancy Feast classic patés.
I now have her on a very low phosphorus Radcat raw chicken diet, but she still needs ~360mg or ~400mg of phosphorus binders a day.
(360 mg per day was more than enough when she was eating 6 oz of food a day, now that she is eating >12 oz, it is borderline.)
(Radcat is 33 kcal per oz.)
Pancreatitis is a double whammy: we know it is PAINFUL, and it makes them not eat. Good luck.
