Jack is plunking along. He is having some serious issues with pudding stools the past few days. I had switched him gradually to a new food(wild calling). The cans I had were chunky with broth. The new cans I got were loaf and that is when he started having issues. I'm now stuck trying to figure out which food brought this on, or if it is completely unrelated. I might switch back to the turkey that made his stomach gurgle and made him gassy, but with good stools. At least that one I know he tolerated. I know cats have short digestive tracks, but not sure how long after "bad" food it takes for the stools to firm back up.

I've switched him over to the weruva CITK fowl ball. That was on sunday and he still has loose stools. SEB should be here tomorrow and if it does not clear up in the next few days, sigh, another vetty visit is on order. I'm still waiting to hear back on the SDMA test.

Jack earned another reduction and still managed to get a 44 overnight. A depot drainer was given this morning and looks like we might try 3u after last night. I'm guessing these are a result of his slow weight loss and trouble digesting food, or the food switch which might be a bit lower in carbs even though the charts show them as the same.

So tough to figure out the next plan. Steroids for IBD/SCL or treatment for potential kidney issues. Hopefully the test comes back soon and we can iron out a treatment regimen and get some meat on the poor guys bones. I feel bad for him, he loves to eat, but it has gotten bad lately. I feel like I'm slowly starving him and need a solution since I would be miserable eating all day and still feeling famished.

Happy Halloween and hope all the kitties and beans have a good evening. We will see if he has the spunk to greet visitors like years past, I put a headlamp on him last year to keep tabs on him... black cat in a dark room. I wanted to make sure he didn't try to follow any tricker treaters out the door.

Glad you ditched the 4u and hope 3u will keep him surfing. Not sure you really need to do such large depot drains on a small dose but then again Jack is riding out some type of storm so better safe. Sorry about the pudding. Wild Calling is loaded with gums...gave my kitten explosive GI upset to and there's been some recalls. Hopefully you can find a food that satisfy him and firms things up. The SEB help too. Surprised the SDMA isn't back yet...IDEXX is usually just a day or two turn around.

Stay safe with Halloween Jack...no escaping big guy. Hang in there Wes :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Poor Jack. I hope his poop firms up soon. I hope you get the test results back soon and can get a treatment plan for Jack. Sending prayers.

Tummy vines for Jack. Budesonide helped Neko's gut but didn't impact her CKD. It's also specific to the gut, unlike pred which is wide spread effect.

I apcan't believe you don't have the SDMA result yet, it's overnight here.

Have you ever tried raw food for Jack? With Neko having acro, it was an easy switch. Many IBD kitties do better on raw. And/or you can try S. Boullardi

@Doodles & Karen Can you point me to the recalls? There was something on "Truth" about pet food website due to two kitties in one house getting sick who were eating Wild Calling, but the post was deleted.

Glad you ditched the 4u and hope 3u will keep him surfing.
Right now some higher numbers are less of a concern with his other ongoing issues. Hopefully I can get a little rest with 3u. I've been brain drained between researching, fretting, trying not to go ballistic on the vet, etc.
The food is such a pain. I find one that is carrageenen free, except it has a good 3-4 other gums in it. I started trying some lower phos food at the same time the wild calling consistency changed. That means 2 variables which always makes troubleshooting harder. I just looked and both the weruva and wild callings both have xanthan gum, which the dave's didn't. Maybe just a coincidence, maybe something more. I'll go back to the dave's for a few days since that did not give him loose stools, but did give him some tummy rumbles and gas. At least this should help since I know the Dave's and am using the same case he was getting before.

got to run to the bank and stopping by the vet after, getting irritated with them again.

I tried radcat and he liked it for a week or so, then started vomiting after every meal. Might need to try a different raw. He has been getting the renew life - ultimate flora probiotic for a month(which reading up does not have S. boullardi).

S. Boullardi is more a diarrhea solution, so a separate product.

With the radcat, try a different protein, and introduce slowly.

So, the SDMA came in.... a week ago.<sigh> He tested at a 15, so 1 point above normal. Basically, very early stages of kidney decline. I discussed possible kidney infection and SIBO with her. She thought 10 days of orbax should have cleared up the kidney infection, I'm not convinced. She is very hesitant to presribe steroids, claiming they destroy kidneys<sigh>, even after I said multiple times that my only goal right now is getting his weight up/absorbing the food better. She of course recommends forti-flora<sigh again>. We are trying clavomax and if it doesn't help she said she would be "open" to trying budesonide or prednisolone.

@Marje and Gracie - Jacks SDMA came back at a 15. We are starting clavomax first then most likely a steroid. Thank you for your comments earlier, they gave me some good talking points to go over with the vet.

Yeah, RadCat offers chicken, turkey, beef, venison or pork. 3u dose, wow...pretty soon you'll have to buy some calipers!
I'll have to try a different protein, luckily a little mom and pop store by me has radcat and the little sample cups to try. I do have some calipers for work and a little TMI, but also a refractometer for my fish tank so I can measure his USG if I can catch him in the act. I never thought all my little knick knacks would come in handy with this furball. I gave him .25r the other day and I really questioned whether I even gave him anything it was such a tiny dose. Those 2 syringe shot days sure seem strange to think about now.

Forgot to mention they have Lamb too. Yeah, my local place also had the sample cups, Bronx went crazy for all flavors in the cups but then when I bought large sizes, he didn't like a few. I think they add some cat nip those sample cups :joyful:

Are you doing (or have you considered) SQ fluids? I know there are specific guidelines re: stage of kidney disease. Even if it is technically too early for long term management, it might have a "jump start" effect. My Rosie started losing weight and had her first bad kidney numbers come in last week. We started fluids and her appetite has significantly improved. It is too early to confirm any weight gain, but I like what I'M seeing so far. Just an option for you to consider. All the best to you both!

Be careful on SQ fluids. So many of our acros have heart issues which means fluids are contraindicated.

I seem to remember from what Marje has posted before that kidney infections take a much longer course of ABs.

Ever thought about getting a referral to an internal medicine vet.? Your vet sounds like she's operating well out of her comfort zone,

Just on today after a few days off. Are you using any probiotics with Jack? When Bubba had his GI pudding stuff, I did the Florastor and then a few days beyond. Then I started him on Slippery Elm Bark as a maintenance dose and so far so good. Keeping good thoughts for you and Jack.
