So Myrtle hasn't had any insulin for 2 weeks. Vet told me not to shoot if numbers continued the same as they had the first few days when her BG was under 150 (8.3 ) and her numbers have stayed quite stable and even nicely dip in the middle of the day on the days I've been home to test. So is she officially OTJ? How often should I test from now on? (She really doesnt likes being tested and I wouldn't be surprised if the stress of it artificially inflates her numbers a bit too)

My only concern is that with a pet meter the normal range is 68-150.... Your vet is used to dealing with pet meter numbers. But on a human meter like you're using its 50-120. So when you're getting numbers like 144... I feel like a tiny bit of insulin would help bring her down into normal range and strengthen the chances of her staying in remission longer term.

If course that's up to you. if you just want to see how it goes and see if she can bring down the numbers on her own I would test every day up to every three days. Until you consistently see numbers under 120.

My vet uses a human meter as well - pet meters not available in Australia I've searched on the net and while the link for the Alphatrack is sometimes in an au website it turns out that you have to order from the U.S. I also think that given the 20% variability in meters, she may well sometimes be below 120 and I'm not willing for her to go lower with insulin given that variability than she already does in the middle of the day. She's back to peeing only twice a day, playing and purring so she seems well. I'm hoping to feed her even lower carb food if I can find a low cal grain free wet food (the BFF recall threw a spanner in the works). It seems that the grain free available here are either very high cal or very low protein - don't ask me how.... We'll see how she goes over the next few weeks and if she stays stable. Janet, I don't know what you mean when you say to test her every day up to every three days though? Thanks I do really appreciate your input.

I just mean I would test her a few times a week, at least for now until she's consistently under 120.

    Woo hoo, go Myrtle! :cat::cat::cat::cat:

This is awesome news. I hope her numbers continue to be great.

Splunk is OTJ now too, and I've been slowly decreasing the amount I'm testing him. I went from twice a day or more to once a day for a week, and I'm now testing every other day for a week. Next week I'll check only twice, and if he's still good, I'll check weekly from then on. Weekly seems often enough to catch a bad trend, but not often enough to qualify as harassment. :)

Splunk sends high fives and head-butts to Myrtle. :D:D:D:D

Oh, and if you ever want to get an AT2 meter (and strips), I could always buy you one here in Canada and ship it. We have relatives in Brisbane, and send things occasionally. It's not super expensive if you don't care when you get it. :)

Yay for Splunk too! Myrtle sends some top of the head licks:joyful:. Yes, I was planning on testing the same way as you and gradually decrease how much I test. I think I'm going to find it a bit hard to chill and let go of knowing what her bg is all the time but I'm sure Myrtle is thrilled that she didn't get poked tonight and that the poking will happen less often.

Thank you so much for your kind offer of sending over an Alphatrack! I'm doing ok with the human meter though and the strips aren't too expensive so I think I'll stick with it. I must say I love Canadians - I've known a few and liked them all - I think they're very much like Australians but with a different accent!

Fingers crossed that both our little darlings continue to improve.

So sorry for the delay... I lost my baby girl Suki yesterday after a rough week, so I've been a little distracted. I made the mistake of logging in here and reading the "grief support" threads... :(:(:(

Anyway, it looks like Myrtle is doing pretty awesome.

I definitely understand needing to chill about wanting to know what the BGL is all the time... I'm stressed about that too. Splunk threw up yesterday morning, and the first thing I thought was "oh boy, here we go... I bet it's sky-high again," and I checked his sugar and it was 4.2.

No worries about the AT2 meter. If you change your mind, you know how to find me. :) But if you have one that's working and the strips are cheap... I'd stick with that! The AT2 strips are pretty ridiculous.

I love Australians too! We spent a couple of months there in late 2015, and it was just amazing. I think our two cultures are really similar, except that you guys know how to have way more fun than we do. :) Everyone was really friendly, and your country is just beautiful. I can't wait to go back. We were in Adelaide, Alice Springs & Uluru, and Brisbane. We wanted to go up to Darwin, but I guess the weather up there gets pretty bad in the summer. Next time.

Hope Myrtle is still doing well!

I am so sorry for your loss :bighug: I know what it is like to lose a furbaby and I'm sure that Suki will be with you forever in your heart and memories.

On the up side, Splunk's numbers look like they just get better every day! Yay! I wish him lots of health and many many more years for you to enjoy him.
