We are starting the 13th day with no insulin and what a different little boy Cole has been. Definitely more playful and alert, not lethargic and starved all the time like the past so many months. It was amazing to see what a difference the food makes. Ever since we took him completely off of glycobalance hard/wet food (which was 15.3% carbs according to RoyalC), his numbers have come way down. I feed him canned wet food only and is typically under 5% carbs (variety of BFF and Fancy Feast Classic Pate). I still test him once a day although Vet told me to test once per week because I think its too soon to stop testing everyday. I'm remaining positive that he'll continue to pull the same numbers and stay in remission.

Thank you for your post, Cole. I had joined the yahoo group for diabetic cats some months ago, and the main person there (I think) is adamant that the best food for diabetic kitties is RC Glycobalance. So I bought that. Angel was delighted to be getting dry food again, and not just FF classic -- he likes variety; some days he'll mainly eat FF, and some days the RC -- for a while he adored Primal Raw, but is currently not particularly interested, although I keep trying to give him that. I can't help but notice, though, that on the days he eats mostly RC he has a touch of diarrhea...AND I'm now beginning to wonder if his BG is high on those days. Like today...mostly yellows on his SS :(. So I came to this site to see what you folks think of RC, and am seeing what I suspected, that NO dry food -- not even RC -- is a good idea, and that RC possibly prevents good BG levels. I'm only going to give Angel a bit of that now on days I'm desperate to have him eat pre-shot.

Delighted to hear your kitty is OTJ, Cole! Yay!

Thank you!! I'm no expert but I would try and stay away from anything dry or wet that's over 10% carbs. Someone posted a low carb dry food name but I can't find the post again. I will let you know once I find it. I have 2 cats, Casey & Cole. Casey is very healthy but super picky on what he eats, some days hard food and some days wet but his stomach can handle it. Cole on the other hand will eat anything but when I switch it up his belly gets affected like Angel. Good luck with Angel, hopefully once the hard food is removed you will see great results!

I did see that dry food name that the other member had posted when I did a search on the site for "Royal Canin," but thank you :). Sigh. Angel is now refusing to eat since I'm not giving him the RC. I'll have to cave and give a bit when it's time for his shot. He will quite literally starve to death if he doesn't like what he's been given :(.

the two dry foods i've seen on this forum are Evo and Young Again Zero. i have just started feeding the latter to my five cats, my diabetic one Smokey has been OTJ for 16 days because of it. one of my cats is always wanting other food. i feed canned, watered down for more hydration, twice a day as a treat and he always begs for more. the YA rep that i spoke with said not to feed carbs while on YA or they can get diarrhoea.

it's very important that a cat eats, otherwise may develop keto acidosis or hepatic lipidosis http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/link-to-review-article-on-feline-hepatic-lipidosis.89743/ which can be fatal
