Starting Lantus Tonight- What Do I Need To Know Immediately??

I put a message out to two of our very experienced members who are in CA. I'm going to say you are ok to test at +4.

We would normally expect to see a food spike at +1 and then the Lantus would kick in at about +2. Each meter has a 20% variance so considering that, he's not really down.....he's about the same.

Just to ask.....you've handled green numbers with food before, yes? I don't necessarily think he's going to get there but he might very well get into blue.

ok- I am hoping for blue. He has had very few blues.

Only dealt with two low greens before and steered with food before. I have plenty testing supplies, HC gravy lovers FF, dry food, karo and honey so we are prepared if all goes downhill.

Ozzy's performance tonight can't be worse than Mariah Carey's performance in time square tonight!!:blackeye: Maybe the Russians hacked her performance!!

Haha....we saw that, too. It's burning up Twitter.

My feeling is he will not drop too much. I would test at +4 and go from there. If he's still coming down, you'll want to be sure and test again. You could even set an alarm and get back up.

Here is a post on How to Handle Low Numbers. If his numbers come down more than you are comfortable, there are usually some night owls in this group or in Main Health but since it is NYs Eve....I'm not sure if there will be.

How are you feeling about dealing with blue numbers on your own?

Forgive me for my misunderstanding, but why would we be worried about blue numbers? Isn't it low greens (under 60) where I should be concerned?
Yes, it is below 50 that you would want to be sure and get him up or if he starts dropping fast.

Well.....I know you aren't new to blue numbers but not knowing how he might react with Lantus, I thought it might make you a bit nervous if he got into blue his very first cycle. My husband and I almost had a heart attack the first time Gracie dropped to blue ;):)

ok- got it. We will be keeping an eye on him tonight. He has been doing great all evening but running and hiding now that the fireworks are going off around here.

Ok. I will check in on you all tomorrow.

If he comes down lower than you are comfortable with, post here or in Main Health as there are usually night owls around.

Paws crossed for a flat night! Happy New Year.

Hi. I'm one of the CA night owls Marje messaged. Sorry to be late but we were out with friends and are now on the way home. I'll be up another hour or so, so if you're awake let me know how I can help.

Ozzy looks pretty flat through +4. Did you get any readings after that? It's hard for me to switch to your SS on my phone on crummy CA roads.

BTW, in case you don't already know this, we ask that each member do only one condo a day, as ours is already a pretty crowded forum. You can change the subject line through the day to reflect readings or questions. To do that, put your cursor in the top right corner of your original post, where it says "Thread Tools". There will be a drop down list where you can choose "edit title". That will open the subject line so you can make whatever changes you need to, then save them and it's good to go.

Morning, Joanna!

I'm glad it was a quiet night. Please tag me when you see this and are ready to do a new condo (thread). I have a couple of short things I'd like to post for you to read.

Hopefully, you can get syringes today. Looks like you don't need a prescription in CA (click on CA for link).

Happy New Year!

@Marje and Gracie Good Morning. Gonna test Ozzy here in a moment, feed, and shoot by 9am. we need to bring his shot time back down by 2.5 hrs. Need to understand the condo rules. Can you help explain? Looking forward to you other reading material.

Good morning!!! Welcome to 2017!

You shouldn't shoot more than an hour early today and I wouldn't do it twice in one day.

Here is one of the posts I was going to link about posting in this forum. Basically, one condo per cat per day with all questions in it including dosing, food, med questions.

We link the condo from the previous day. To do this, open the previous day's condo, copy the browser address, open a new condo, put the cursor in the t st box and type something like "Yesterday's condo"" highlight it, click on the hyperlink (looks like a paper clip) icon in the tool bar, paste your copied browser address, click "insert" and you're done.
Members get quite creative with what they name that link but we just need to be able to tell it's from the day before;)

Lastly, title the condo like this:
Date Ozzy AMPS xxx

Where xxx is his BG. Each time you test, add the test hour (e.g. +4) and the BG. At the end of the day, it might look like this:
1/1 Ozzy AMPS 232 +2 150 +5 120 +8 175 PMPS 221 +2 175
