Doodles 2/18 5th cycle on this dose and just looking for a little "sign" from Mr. Doodles that Lantus is still a good insulin for him. 4 P's are good....need to see some playing. My goal today for the sake of sanity is not to let it get to me since we are having company after PMPS. DH has asked me to put "Sour Pea" in the closet for just 1 day/night :p

Hope everyone has a good Friday and the kitties are doing well.

Man, Doodles is being stubborn here! Don't lose hope...there was a time that Trix fell out of regulation for no apparent reason. I had to take her up to 5 units to hit a breakthrough, and once we got there, she came back down to something like 2 units. Who knows why....sometimes these things just happen.

Enjoy the company tonight, Karen!

Come on Doodles, you can do it! Boomer wants his little buddy back in the lagoon!
Karen....not letting it get to you is, as you know, easier said than done. I've been there, done that, and it's still always on your mind. That being said, hopefully your company can distract you a bit for a while. Laughter is a good thing:)

That really is one stubborn cat that you have there! Hopefully, he is just holding out for that magic dose that will make a difference and get him back into normal range.

...and good luck with the letting it go. No advice from me on how to do that.... but let me know if you come across some good advice. ;)

I am absolutely no expert.... just wondering about Lev (I have considered this for Dre if he ends up long term because of the occasional sting) Not sure it would change the Doodles too much tho as I hear it is very similar.... maybe a expert will stop by? I am pretty sure Wendy uses lev-

Considering I recently spent over $500 on 2 lantus viles we won't be switching until May the earliest. I rub the needle between my fingers for a few seconds before injecting...he's been good about it again lately. Also re-looked at the injection video and his shots are back to "no jumping". Wonder if I hurt him a few times in the recent weeks....I had a bout of super high anxiety when giving the injections for a few days not long ago.

It's so hard not to let this overtake our lives. It has mine too. I hope Doodles finds his new right dose soon. I've seen pretty dramatic changes for some with lev and considered it often but couldn't figure out when I would shoot if I got the late nadirs. Then Max settled in to pretty good numbers. You still have a chance at remission so maybe try it if Doodles isn't well controlled when the lantus is used up. You could also sell the lantus to someone.:bighug::bighug:

Doodles is playing--with your head! I don't know what to advise about "letting it go" except to say I make daily use one or more phone apps for meditation and relaxation. It makes a world of difference for me.

Yikes!! 2 vials.... mama mean business Doodles!
Maybe he will surprise us today:cool:?:D?

it will---he will find the right dose--
has he gone back to wet?? can he go back on tight reg?
I just saw I think you are on TR-

He's been on wet only for weeks. There was a day 1/2 where I threw in the towel and let him free feed the YA. If you look at my SS, he was always getting a little dry even when completely regulated to supplement his calorie intake. I'm following TR and luckily he's eating wet only. If that changes, and he needs what ever he'll eat, I'll still follow TR. I don't need protocol permission. Don't mean to sound hostile but the YAZC discussion is old. Many cats on this board and everywhere have only been fed wet or raw and ended up with diabetes. Dry food doesn't help but it's not the cause of diabetes. :)

I'm glad your on TR--(no opinion on YA--I got in trouble when I mentioned it before:blackeye: )

(((Karen))). I too feel your pain. I started 2015 at 2.0f units and got as high as 7.0 units. It is so frustrating to see a mostly regulated cat fall out into THOSE numbers. Just keep following the protocol. Doodles' dose is out there. :bighug:

Neko on Levemir is flatter than she was on Lantus, so I test less. It could also be I am learning how to read her better over time too. But it didn't make a huge difference in the size of her dose, though it does mean less pinks. Which I think makes both of us happier.

Doodles, give your momma a break please.

Sending lots of vines your way! :bighug::bighug::bighug: I know what a helpless feeling it is to see your baby in high numbers day after day. But Doodles has managed to work his way into normal range before and I am hopeful that he can do it again. In the meantime, take care of yourself and try to enjoy your evening.

He's flat that's for sure! I wonder if he's checking out on me. This vile of Lantus is from the same pharmacy with the same lot number of the one I thought might be "bad". IDK, sorry for another melt down...just need him out of these numbers. DH and I agreed to go up to 3 on the 7th cycle but after that I might have to consider a different insulin. He was hardly this high at the beginning of our Lantus journey when he was only eating DM Dry food.

I feel your pain. I'm in the same boat with Vyktor at the moment. We were sailing along so nicely on .5 for quite a while there then he lost it following a reduction to .25 and we just haven't been able to get it back yet - this morning we increased to 2.25. Reminding myself that I can't do anything more as far as management goes helps - accept the things you cannot change blah blah... that helps me to focus less on the numbers - while he was having good numbers I could recite the whole day's numbers back, at the moment I tend to banish them from my brain as fast as I get them! When you're doing everything that you can that's it, stressing just makes things worse so try not too. I'm with DH about 'putting her in the closet tonight' - assuming he didn't mean it literally! :bighug:

I don't have dosing advice...But I think you are doing great. And I agree...Food isn't always the cause. Spaceman ate grain free dry and wet his entire life and we still ended up here. Being on my third...I'm not nearly as stressed. Ok...a little...I am not ready to go out of town or anything. But you have to live your life and give them the best you can give but I gave up trying to control this because then it just ends up controlling you. I free feed just so I can have a little peace of mind that if things go low that he will take care of his business all by himself. See what the 3U does. The only thing I see when looking at your SS is that you were getting better numbers at lower doses. Did something change atound the time you were giving 1.25? Also, on the spreadsheets you can add notes to the boxes if you go to insert and then in the drop down select note. I do that when something unusual happens (like when my Husband gives him a shot because I don't know that his .75 and my .75 are the same thing).
I think you are doing an amazing job. You have to remember to take care of yourself. You can't share anything from an empty cup. Go get a massage!! or a pedicure. Do you have those foot massage places where you live? I LLLLLOOOOOOVVVVVEEEE those with all my heart.

The only thing that changed is me reducing him to 1 unit on 1/27 because he wouldn't eat wet food and I had to go back to mainly dry. So in order to follow the protocols here although against my better judgement I reduced him. Since then, he's been nothing but stuck in these high numbers and miserable.

So what is he eating now? Wet again or dry? Maybe you lost your shed whn you reduced? I will admit that I have not looked at the TR protocols because I have no intention of trying so I have no advice there. I have a happy healthy-ish cat and I need to be content with that. My cats have not yet developed an appreciation for the YA Zero so it gets mixed in with Natures instinct with the Raw bits. They eat that pretty good but they do want the wet stuff mostly. I will also admit that I have not taken a look at the food charts lately and am really bad at just getting the FF classics and a few other foods that are grain free. Poor Spaceman....3rd diabetic and I am probably a little too relaxed.

Karen

I have experienced something like this with Gus. With no apparent reason he lost BG control and I had to increase his dose to 3U when just several days before that he was fine on 0.25U. This seems to me like they need to get just right dose to kick start BG control again. You doing great job and Doodles will get better numbers soon. With my struggle I got to the point that if I know that I am doing my very best to keep him comfortable and appreciate every day he is still with us. I have to admit that many times when Gus was not feeling well I didn't think he will survive and every time I lost hope he got better and is still with us. We have lots of good days.

Sending fill good and blue/green vines for Doodles. Hugs for you.

Thank you Elizabeth and I'm super happy Gus is still with you and having lots of good days:) Doodles was tough nut to crack in the beginning so when my head is "clear" I realize it is what it is and just focus on the protocol.
