Hi Bobbie!!!! I'm so glad you dropped by. We miss you!

I'm glad everyone was nice over in L and L land. Love the first day of school...hilarious!! I'm sure you will get along great and I can't wait to see how Bubba does on Lantus!

You better come visit! You're one of the family now!

From one former Prozinian to another....they ain't see the last of us! :p:p This is our comfort zone and it's sure is nice to be able to come back and visit anytime.

Glad you had a good, first day at "school", Bobbie! We are all excited to see how Bubba will do with Lantus! Come on, Bubba!

You can either buy a bottle (vial 10 ml) of Lantus or you can get what is called Solostar Pens. They come in a five pack. Each one is 3ml. The date expiration date says 28 days but that is un-refrigerated. They will keep much longer, perhaps to 6 months. Walmart will let you buy just one for 87.40. Next time I will order from Canada Mark's Marine Pharmacy, much cheaper but it can take 10 days and I didn't want to wait that long. I think if I remember correctly, the price at Marks for a 5 set of pens was 144.00. The expiration date is about 2 years out.

Bubba's first day cycle on Lantus was just like his day cycle in ProZinc, all yellow! But, last night was all pink so I am glad about that. Now, if he'll just come down to blues and greens. ;)

Colin and Bubba were mellow yellows today! I had pinks and a blue, probably some yellows in there but was gone for part of the day. Time to up the dose tomorrow, hope to see more blues and maybe (do I dare hope?) greens.

Good evening Sharon and Bobbie - had great trip - SOOOO good to get a break - I slept like a log - but now it's back to the same old grind - came back to find Murphy with a good +7 #, but black pmps - great #s last night - not so good this am I did start to give him 1 tablespoon of the venison at a time - did that 3x today - wonder if that is why his +6 was high - don't know - No explanation for these cats
I think I am going to California for three days next week, and wondering how I can do this with a cat sitter who doesn't test
Sharon - you got yellows - it can happen and Bobbie - how long does it take for the depot to fill up? You two doing ok?

Glad you had a nice break from this grind! After an increase in dose, Colin had a decent day yesterday. I guess he is bouncing because yellow is low to him, all I know is that I'm getting tired:( But we keep on...

Will be nice for you to go to California Next week. If your cat sitter doesn't want to learn to test, may you can do like you did this time and lower the dose. Just don't let him know your going or he'll pull something!:woot:

So glad that you escape was restful. That is what the doctor ordered and we all need that! I would kill for a 8 hours stretch uninterrupted. We are doing the same. No real change, same old stuck in yellow. His PM cycles the last 3 are higher and when he is supposed to be at his lowest, he shoots up. It doesn't make sense. I will be bumping him up tomorrow to 2.75 as he had a trace of ketones this AM.

Keep the faith, Bobbie -I was reading on your Lantus thread that Bubba vomited a hairball and right before you tested him Murphy vomited once right before I tested him and the reading was over 600 - I am convinced it was from the vomiting. I now would definitely wait as long as possible after a vomiting episode to get a reading -

@Sharon14 @Bobbie And Bubba Hey you two - don't forget us here in Peozinc-Land. Bobbie -I've been reading your condo (why do they call them condos?) on the lantus forum - what do you think is going on? Good idea about putting extra protein in the canned food. Maybe you should let him eat all his mice - hang in there. Sharon - how is Colin? peeing in any more inappropriate places?

Good morning Carol. Colin is being Colin-high!:banghead: So far he's using his box. My new problem is DJ, the 23 y.o. He has a cold, sneezing and this AM he hasn't eaten. Wanted to go out to potty, as usual, trotted out even. I think he can't smell his food, so I'll syringe feed him in a bit. Always something...
How's Murphy?

Good morning Carol ~ I'll never forget my proZinc family. They call them condos because each day you use one thread for all your conversations and that cell is where you live or something like that.....I thought everyone was doing a typo for conversation, LOL. I wish I knew what was going on. The ketones present a problem for the recommendation to increase but with him bouncing now I think increasing during a bounce will be chaotic. I ask Julie about that this AM so hope to get some clarity on it. But Bubba being Bubba......never clarity. I can tell you this. He seems fine, hungry, always wanting to be outside despite it being 35 degrees out side. How the Murphy doing?

Colin and Bubba must be on the same schedule to drive us nuts! I am sorry about your 23 y.o. Hold cow that's old! Poor guy, hope he feels better.

Thanks, yes I worry about him. I think, unfortunately, his time is drawing near. He's never been sick, ever! He sleeps most of the time, but when he's awake, he trots around outside to potty, so maybe he's got some more time. I'll do what I can for him.
I saw Bubba's numbers from last night and this AM. Are you going to increase? How are the ketones? Does that meter read ketones and glucose at the same time or is it two different strips?
Carol, I saw what you wrote about the crazy meter numbers, wow!

Sharon - my last two cats have had chronic nasal issues - my vet friend taught me to increase the smell of their food by putting it in a microwave for about 3-4 seconds before giving it to them -
I am still in awe of you having a 23 year old cat - you sure do something right - lysine can - help with a kitty cold
Bobbie- I wonder why these ketones are showing up all of a sudden - do you have subq fluids on hand if you need them?
the most important thing is that both your cats look and seem to feel fine and are enjoying life!

Never been sick! You really are doing something right! I didn't see Julie's post about increasing till after I dosed him this AM. So I will have to wait. The meter takes two different strips. The ketone strips are pricy, about 3 buck a pop on Amazon.

I don't have any sub q fluids and don't know how to do it. I will call vet first thing in the AM and talk to her about it.

Crazy numbers, high numbers, ketones, colds and teeth falling out.....sure has been a tough week for everyone and their kitties! Hope your 23 yr old feels better soon, Sharon. How awesome he is that old and does so well! Agree with Carol, Bobbie about Bubba, he is happy, hunting and eating well, so try not to worry too much. All of us are having a tough time regulating our kitties, sometimes we need to give ourselves a break and remember that we are doing the best we can. Have a peaceful, stress free Sunday !

Bobbie, have you looked on EBay? Sometimes senior citizens sell their excess supplies. Just be sure to check the sellers' reputation and the expiration date. I used a brand name meter that required more expensive strips and bought all my strips on EBay.

Good idea Sue! Did you view Carl's Re-gift thread in Community? There was a sweet photo of Oliver. I enjoyed seeing him. :)

You are right! You have a stress free Sunday too, Lynn:bighug:

On this note, I decided to chance a 3 day trip to San Diego to see my niece - leave next Saturday am and return Monday night - (this is the trip I had to cancel at the last moment in October) I am going to try to get the cat sitter to learn how to poke, but Murphy is so difficult - but if she can't, Sue, do you think I would be able to do 4 shots with no pretest (Sat pm, both Sunday and Monday am)? My life pre-diabetes was full of international travel and going out constantly - I need to get just a little back or - I don't know what!

Yep, remember that your kitties are more than just a number! Quality of life matters...if they are feeling okay, something is still right. :)

Carol, I think we can figure out a vacation dose if the sitter can't test. Might just be a bit lower than what you would normally give...but something is better than nothing! And you definitely deserve a few days away!

This is a photo I took while in South Dakota. I had a small colony of feral cats that took up with me, I fed them and gave them shelter in my garage. It gets very cold in SD and the snow was deep that year, so these clever kitties climbed on a ladder to catch some rays and get up out of the snow. I wish I could have adopted all of them, but most would not even let me touch them. I tamed many small kittens and found homes for most and eventually this "colony" was taken to a farm with a large population of mice that had no cats. They are still there and thriving ,as well as feral cats can. I wish people would spay and neuter there cats and never abandoned them, but many do in that part of the country. Guess they do every where, just so sad and cruel. :(

It's an amazing photo but somewhat sad Glad to hear they and their descendants are still going though Not getting cats fixed ( or taken to the vet) is a huge problem everywhere - urban & rural

I do too! I wanted to adopt them all, but just couldn't. I started feeding one, lone, big, fluffy orange tabby and before I knew it, there were many more. So I fed them, gave them clean water and sleeping places in the garage. I wanted to neuter the males, but there were always other strays around, so that wouldn't have worked. :( I can't believe how many cats get abandoned around there, some are born feral, but many were dumped by owners. Makes me want to send those people out in the cold, with no shelter, food or love and see how they survive!

Great pic! People dump cats and dogs everywhere. That's how I got all mine. We just rescued 6 puppies that were dumped at the gate of the Arboretum...

Aww, poor puppies, but they were lucky you found them, I know you will rescue them, Sharon! It is shameless the way people dump animals, I saw it a lot living in a rural area, but it happens a lot in the cities too. We have a poor system in this country, I think they have made the cost too high for spaying and neutering and many require proof of shots also. Great idea in concept, but many don't have the money for both, so do neither. It's the poor animals that suffer. Wish we could do better, I think we can, I hope we can. If only people would get a rescue dog or cat, instead of buying one, it would help and the puppy mills wouldn't be so profitable either. Don't get me started on those! Thank goodness for people like Sharon!

Happily, Chicago just passed a law that pet shops cannot sell cats or dogs - only shelter animals!! The problem is worldwide - all the stray dogs on the streets in Africa, Asia, and India roaming the streets - heartbreaking - although in India people tended to give food to the street dogs. it's scary there too as the animals are everywhere, and some are rabid. In Vietnam, I saw motos carrying dogs going for slaughter (for food) - brown colored dogs are the most priced there (for their meat) - so awful. I was a strict vegetarian in Asia.

Haven't touched him yet, but I don't think he's feral-they usually run far when I approach. I think he's just scared. My other boys try to pick fights with him. They are fixed, but still territorial. I hope to befriend him soon and get him fixed
