Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 23, 2025

FelineDiabetes.com (“we,” “our,” “us”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have regarding your data when you use our website (felinediabetes.com) and the Feline Diabetes Message Board (FDMB).

Free and Anonymous Access

Access to our website is free and anonymous. You are not required to provide personal information to browse the site. However, if you wish to post on the FDMB or leave comments on the website, registration or form submission is required.

Your IP address may be visible to site administrators but is not disclosed to the public.

Information We Collect

Comments

When visitors leave comments, we collect the data shown in the comment form, along with the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string for spam detection.

  • An anonymized string (hash) of your email address may be provided to the Gravatar service to check for an associated profile picture. Gravatar’s privacy policy is available at: https://automattic.com/privacy/.

  • After approval, your profile picture (if available) is visible with your comment.

Media

If you upload images, avoid including embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors to the site can download and extract such data from images.

Message Board (FDMB)

  • Reading posts does not require registration.

  • Registration is required to post. Registration requires a first name, last name, and email address. Names do not need to be real but will be displayed as your posting identity.

  • Your email address is required for administrative purposes and is not visible to other users unless you choose to display it in your profile.

  • Registration helps prevent misuse of the board.

Polls

From time to time, we may run polls. Responses are anonymous. We log the date, time, IP address, and vote to remove duplicates before publishing results. These polls are not scientific.

Cookies

We use cookies for functionality, not for tracking. Examples include:

  • Remembering login details on FDMB.

  • Marking which posts you have read.

  • Saving your name, email, and website if you comment, so you don’t need to re-enter them (stored for one year).

  • Temporary cookies to check if your browser accepts cookies (deleted when you close your browser).

  • Login cookies (two days, or two weeks if “Remember Me” is selected) and screen option cookies (one year).

  • Cookies for editing or publishing content, which contain no personal data and expire in one day.

Cookies are not used to track your browsing history, and cookie information is not stored on our web server.

Access Logs

We log visits to analyze traffic patterns, including the number of visitors, popular pages, and general connection origins. These reports are generated weekly and monthly. Individual sessions are not tracked.

Embedded Content from Other Websites

Articles may include embedded content (e.g., videos, images, or links). Embedded content behaves as if you visited the third-party site directly. These sites may collect data, use cookies, and track your interaction. We have no control over these external services.

Data Sharing and Disclosure

  • We do not sell or share personally identifying data with third parties.

  • If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

  • Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

Data Retention

  • Comments and their metadata are retained indefinitely to recognize and approve follow-ups automatically.

  • Registered users’ profiles remain stored until the account is deleted. Users can view, edit, or delete their personal information at any time, except for usernames. Administrators can also manage this data.

Your Rights

If you have an account or have left comments, you may request:

  • An exported file of the personal data we hold about you.

  • The deletion of your personal data, except where we are required to retain it for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
